Field corn looks spectacular.  Beans planted on Father's Day weekend, not so much.

So my brisket remains dry.  I need some pro tips.

Maybe I am over trimming and not leaving enough fat on it.  Usually smoke 3-4 hours then wrap with butcher paper.  I am using lump charcoal and wood chunks.  I struggle keeping even temp until I get it wrapped and finish in the oven.

Farm neighbor has grown about an acre every summer for years.  He's in his 70s.

Usually 2 plantings a couple weeks apart, but it matured at the same time this round.

He always calls once others have got their fill, and then we pick what's left.

Essentially Flyertalk / Re: songs in your heavy rotation

i’ve been listening to a lot of the cult lately.

https://youtu.be/ZCOSPtyZAPA?si=8bd2a1s1dPMpbl2o

do they have any other good songs besides this one? been a yuge fan of the song since Layer Cake (2004)
yeah man a lot of good music in their catalog and their evolution is probably apparent.

their next album after Love was Electric . whereas Love seemed more fringe, Electric definitely targeted more mainstream and had a late 80’s rock feel to it. it spawned several songs that found their way to radio stations beyond what KJHK was playing and expanded their audience.

from there, they released Sonic Temple (1989) and it’s essentially a polished version of Electric, which is to say, very good if you like ian’s voice.

for me, that’s where they peaked. those three albums.

they were the opener for metallica’s damaged justice june 1989 stop at sandstone and iirc sucked quite badly at that show.

That Sanctuary song is an absolute unit and going on my playlist.

digging into their other songs I can't help but think of Spinal Tap.   Aphrodisiac Jacket? lol

Sweet corn crop is early.   Neighbor never makes any money because he sells it for free!

It's "brown bread" ice cream.  Vanilla base with maple syrup and grape nuts.  I dont know what brand of rock salt.  It's off the shelf from HyVee or Ace.

Essentially Flyertalk / Re: Best & Worst Flags
« on: June 29, 2025, 04:31:47 PM »
I got a new US flag (not pictured) as the current one is fading badly.  Betsy Ross and the Whiskey Rebellion flag complete my July 4th display.  I've been debating getting a 34 star US flag, which was adopted when Kansas joined the union.  It began flying July 4th, 1861.

Gas pop bottles/desiel crossover post: when I was really young my dad worked at a truss factory out by the mhk airport. The owner would let my dad work on his truck at the factory on the weekend so I was like 7 having fun dicking around a truss factory and saw a glass Pepsi bottle and thought "score!". Took a swig and some rapscaillion had filled the bottle with gasoline. Anyway I spit it out and spent the rest of the day at the er.
We used to pack new grease on wheel bearings on the hay/silage wagons before each season.  We cleaned them in a bucket of gas.  Dropped that once, and gas splashed in my face/eyes.  I thought I was blind for life.

if you run a giant ass 8 wheeled tractor out of gas (supposed to call it fuel or diesel but I intentionally called it "gas" because it enraged my dad and grandfather) it's kind of a PITA to get it going again. Have to shut down for a long time and pull the gas (lmao) filters off it and fill them up and reattach them and finally can fire it back up. anyway, if it's that rough ridin' important just come out and fill me up fuckers. sick of this.

This post enraged me!
LoL.  One of the worst chewings I ever got was running the 4240 out of diesel.  As SD noted, you have to prime the fuel lines, pump, etc.  All the while, dad was loosening lines, pumping fuel, diesel on his overalls just ripping my dumb ass.

Absolutely hated moving equipment on paved roads with traffic between Topeka and Lawrence.  Thankfully, never had a serious wreck, but plenty of wild passing, tail gating, turning against traffic, close calls.

This probably gets you off the fence, Cat.  My buds at Marlatt politely told me to turn this crap down one afternoon.
