I thought Michael Madsen was already dead. Now I'm wondering who I thought was him.
Michael Moore?
Oh man he's still alive

I'm sure the book is good, and The Martian was great, but if we're judging on how good does it make the movie look, that is one of the worst trailers I've ever seen

How do people take the goofy hat and Botox/plastic surgery induced early 00s Von Dutch/Trucker hat aesthetic seriously?

in hindsight the 2000s was very maga. shock & awe, patriot act, no obama yet, m&m's still fuckable, hot babes in burger king commercials, the best selling musical artist of the decade was a white rapper, etc etc

you guys are trying too hard to be edgy, season 2 was perfectly enjoyable. excited for season 3.

how does season 2 compare to the documentary about avicii

6
No Squid Game watchers here?
Seems like a perfect 1 season phenomenon and no reason to ruin that by watching the inevitable follow up money grab

Essentially Flyertalk / Re: How Many Credit Cards Do You Have?
« on: July 02, 2025, 08:40:24 AM »
they are now allowing you to get both cards so apply for the CSP and get the bonus then cancel CSR after the fee hits and they'll refund it.
I've had the CSR for like 8 years and haven't churned.

Just applied for the CSP and they said I'm not eligible for the bonus bc I currently have a CSR *and/or* because i've previously received a CSP sign-up bonus (even though it was >4 years ago)

135th

435 IMO

This is obviously correct
Yeah saying south joco starts at 135th is like saying western kansas starts in hays or something absurd

Does any jazz standard have a more pure melancholy vibe than "In a Sentimental Mood" by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane?

https://youtu.be/JiP7jKdAhD0?si=UagpfxsPS2VL6TaT

can't imagine there is one.

my ears perked up when i heard "Haupe" by Duke Ellington from the Anatomy of a Murder soundtrack, particularly the tone of the sax. the sax player for that and many other of Duke's most well-known records (notably Jeep's Blues) was Johnny Hodges, which sent me down his rabbit hole. i pick up one of his vinyls any time i see one, as you can find them anywhere for cheap and he's not a big name.

check out Warm Valley, Didn't Know About You, A Flower is a Lovesome Thing, etc etc. he just has the warmest sax tone.

I used to think throwing 98 mph heaters at the dome of your opponent for an earlier offense was dumb. Now I think it is righteous vengeance.
What better way is there to show your lack of being devastated

I understand I'm in the minority and it's a crusty old opinion. That's why I came to this board. Stop trying to convince me, I'm set it my ways.

you're free to have your opinion, but your assertion that underplaying a celebration is more devastating to the opponent is objectively wrong

That's what makes it badass in baseball. The other team gets so butthurt about it that the pitcher will literally try to kill the batter next time up. So i think it's safe to say acting like you've been there before is not "devastating" to the other team

I get annoyed by all the lame ass celebrations in baseball and really most sports now.

I will maintain to my grave (soon since I'm old) that the most devastating celebration will always be to act like what you just did is the most boring, normal, easiest thing in the world for you.

Just to clarity, for you the point of a celebration is to inflict emotional damage on your opponent?
I think he wants them to act like it ain't no thang but a chicken wing

it does kind of read like _33 has been wounded more when an opponent goes bananas after a TD vs when they calmly walk off the field

I remember some investigative piece in 2015 that assessed Trump's intelligence as on par with like a 6th grader, based on analyzing his tweets (limited vocabulary, frequent grammatical errors, use of all caps, excessive exclamation points).
anyway now it's 10 years later and he is tweeting the same way (albeit on a different platform) but this time he's the President of the United States talking about a non-existent ceasefire after bombing Iran. pretty wild.
