i’ve been listening to a lot of the cult lately.

https://youtu.be/ZCOSPtyZAPA?si=8bd2a1s1dPMpbl2o

do they have any other good songs besides this one? been a yuge fan of the song since Layer Cake (2004)
yeah man a lot of good music in their catalog and their evolution is probably apparent.

their next album after Love was Electric . whereas Love seemed more fringe, Electric definitely targeted more mainstream and had a late 80’s rock feel to it. it spawned several songs that found their way to radio stations beyond what KJHK was playing and expanded their audience.

from there, they released Sonic Temple (1989) and it’s essentially a polished version of Electric, which is to say, very good if you like ian’s voice.

for me, that’s where they peaked. those three albums.

they were the opener for metallica’s damaged justice june 1989 stop at sandstone and iirc sucked quite badly at that show.

That Sanctuary song is an absolute unit and going on my playlist.

digging into their other songs I can't help but think of Spinal Tap.   Aphrodisiac Jacket? lol

Mira is already the winner of the Tour Divide imo 🐕

If you are ever on the Oregon coast, Beachside State Recreation Site is appropriately named. Scored the perfect camping spot after someone cancelled.

Catchacold, that is really great! Share some highlights from your year so far

I've probably posted about it before, but rode McKenzie pass last weekend before it opens to cars. I don't have a road bike, but it's a beautiful ride without traffic. The squiggly line on the left is fun to bomb down. About seven miles, 2000 feet vertical.

Mt Washington and my road bike.

A couple weeks ago, trail ride up to the snow line.

Some hiking, climbing over downed trees to get to the view point. I can almost see my house from here!

Thinking about getting a bike since moving to NWA but I probably won't.

Been going down a rabbit hole of watching Unbound Gravel 2025 videos on YouTube. The 350mi (XL) winner averaged 19+ MPH for the ride. The top of the 200 mi field averaged over 23 MPH for the race.  Really amazing endurance athletes:

they might be aliens. genetically abnormal for sure.

Have a couple friends starting off on the Tour Divide friday, looking forward to following along that crazy stuff. I was happy to hit 2000 miles for the year so far, and they will be riding more than that over 2 weeks

missed mocat's bike post, and tdaver :surprised: amazing stuff, cat fans.

here is a photo of a rare switchback inside Ozark NF. apparently a lot of the forest roads were built in the 1930s during WPA, and my guess is it was cheaper to just plow straight up a hill at 15% grade, instead of making switchbacks and keep the grade under 10% or whatever.

Same reason I avoid roads that follow utilities. gas line/power line roads are the worst.

The Bend Oregon summer concerts are cranking up.

Inspired by the golden era of soft rock, Yacht Rock Revue has mastered the art of recreating the breezy and laid-back tunes that defined a generation. From the sun-kissed melodies of Steely Dan and Michael McDonald to the velvety harmonies of Hall & Oates, their repertoire spans an ocean of beloved hits that evoke memories of palm trees, ocean breezes and carefree summers.

But Yacht Rock Revue isn't just a tribute band; they are musical alchemists, seamlessly blending their own unique style with the iconic yacht rock vibe. Their original compositions are a modern ode to the genre, capturing the essence of those bygone days while infusing it with a fresh and invigorating twist. Their first original record, titled "Hot Dads In Tight Jeans," showcases the bands complete range of skills that simultaneously transports the listener to a more modern era. While “Step,” the record’s first single, is a peppy number replete with falsetto and bumping bass, the rest of the album is more akin to Phoenix or Air, the hip bands that adapted Yacht for a younger audience.

A week away from this event, and the special guest is still TBA

The Brad Paisley Truck Still Works tour seemed like a popular place tonight when I rode my bicycle past, a full 2 hours before the show.  :Carl:

Maybe I will roll past this weekend to catch some Black Keys or Leon Bridges   :dunno:

Was in the Zion area late April/early May last year. Weather was great. Stayed in Hurricane because we were there mainly for mountain biking. Had one day designated to visit Zion, arrived around 8:30-9am and there was no parking anywhere and was a total cluster.f. Left and did something else that day. Came back after the last shuttle had run, parked easily, and rode bikes into the canyon. That was a great way to see it, but probably not for hiking. Go cats.

Also if the place isn't fully furnished, furniture rental companies were easy to deal with and they deliver/pickup. Then you just need kitchen stuff, bedding, etc. We sometimes found these in thrift stores and then donated back when we left.

These are great tips!  What was the weather like in those other spots in Jan-March?

Henderson would start around 65/40 in Jan to 80/55 in March
St George roughly 10 degrees cooler than that

Visited Henderson for the Cats game in November it was around 80, pretty nice. This is the "late night" trailhead just west of the city

I’d like to rent a fully furnished  2 - 3 bedroom house or townhome,  with a fenced yard for my dogs for 3 months.

not for snowbirding, but did this a bunch when my wife worked as a travel nurse. It can be tricky to find pet friendly short term rentals, especially in smaller towns. But beyond the hassle of getting housing and utilities setup, it is good fun to be somewhere new for a few months.

Tucson is good for cycling if you are still into that sort of thing. Also enjoyed St George/Hurricane UT, Henderson NV
