Lamur is the best athlete of the the three. He's the only one that doesn't look like a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) when he throws it and Klein looks like Gregory 2.0 when he's in there.
Gregory didn't know the playbook last year, he had to look at the sideline every time. What's the big deal with doing that with Lamur? He's the best athlete, and if we're only planning on throwing the ball 10-15 times a game, then it's worth a shot. He'll extend the DT's and LB's with his threat of running, which would hopefully leave more room for Thomas to work with up the middle.
This is my first attempt at a HFBIQ post, please be gentle.

Tecmo bowl!
But seriously, this is my thought process all year. Also, when Lamur did throw it, it wasn't 3 yards behind the receiver. I don't know what it is that Coffman does better than Lamur, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it has nothing to do with playing quarterback.
-
I hope Snyder at least considers it. Even Klein's little bit of burst in the QB run game was a nice change.
We are going to be a run 1st team, so why not try some other options, though week 6 is a bit late for that. But I'm open to trying some other QB options to try different run game wrinkles.

Lamar should be our starter against ku. Why the hell not. We run the same 5 or 6 plays with Carson in, I'm sure Lamar can run them as well.

Coffman is better at being white. :opcat: :horrorsurprise:

The fact that he's gone to Klein first every time (UCLA game, MO St. and last night) tends me to believe that short of Coffman getting hit in a crosswalk and Klein getting sick off some Hunam, he ain't seeing the field.

True, those guys must do some other stuff really, really poorly. But the fact that he did throw Lamur out there last night, and not just Klein, does say something IMO.

I'm torn. This seems like such a good idea but both _fan and stormnut like it therefore it must be: :powerespect:

I'm trying to convert from tardisim to EMAWisim. It slow but I'm done with being all nice and sunshine ass pumper.

The thing I don't get is that Snyder has been more than willing to swap QBs at any point in the season, in past years. In fact, I would have considered it one of his strengths as a coach up until this year. He wasn't ever as stubborn as his oldness suggested.
Now? :/
-
If Snyder would just roll out the techmo bowl (sic) offense, we wouldn't need to worry about QB. The weapons!!!!!!!
"We just need a guy that isn't going to lose the games for us". Important reminder here.

My theory is that he does not trust Lamur to recognize what he is seeing from the defense and OB would rather run the right play with the wrong QB than have the most athletic QB run the wrong play.
I wish he would at least script a series for Lamur, if only to finally kill the optimism I still hold deep inside that Lamur could be some kind of answer.
-
Either way, we need to change - queso is figured out, that's for sure. Klien and Slamur both did things we hadnt seen with queso; on his run, Klien DRAGGED two nubb defenders 5 MF yards while they were trying to rip the ball out the entire time and Slamur's presence pushed the defense back enough where he made some nice looking run plays and his passing looked good too.
OBz is freaking me out.

I'm so sick of this talking point. What evidence is there that Offman is getting us in the "right plays"?

Yeah, that's all we're asking for. Just give the guy a shot.

Meh. He's been doing it all year, and OB in his media sessions has even said that's what give him an advantage. If he's been checking into the wrong plays consistently, I imagine he'd hear it from Snyder, or he'd at least get pulled.
Just because they're in the right play doesn't mean it's going to work with him running it, though.
-
If Queso Cheese has actually really checked at the line this (and not just faking it) . . . has there been anything that he's checked into that was really that fantastic??
In order for a QB to get a feel for the game, and to "understand what they're seeing" they have to play.
Now I know the most popular guy on a lot of football teams is the back up QB. But with that said, if we're going to run the kind of offense we're running and that we all know that OB wants to run. Why not put the guy in there that can potentially make things happen in the QB running game. Not just just an occasional nice little run, but a guy who can break off some long runs, and also run away from pressure and make a defense pay??
In the passing game, if all we're going to do is work short little isolation routes underneath . . . why not Sammy???
To me, part of the problem with the O-Line and with Thomas getting going is the fact that there's literally no threat to the defense from the QB position. In the vertical passing game one factor in getting guys open is the threat of a running QB forcing the defense to spy and be overly concerned with run support and contain.

Unfortunately for SLamur his throws are very low and will get knocked down at the LOS at lot.
I really do think CC4Q is the best option (HAR!) we have.

You are, perhaps, familiar with a former OB QB named Michael Bishop. He of the "left" and "right" wristbands. Make a single even remotely plausible argument that Bishop would recognize the difference between his ass and a hole in the ground much less anything a defense might have been doing.

jfc, chings. i can't tell if your being sarcastic or serious.
wgaf if his throws are low? that's better than standing in the pocket and just putting your head down waiting to be sacked.
-
so why not try some other options
We refuse.
-
I've convinced myself there is zero chance Lamur could do any worse, or give us any less of a chance to win, than Offman.

Then you move him around in the passing game . . . you don't ask a Lamur to be a drop back passer. I know it wasn't only one pass last night, but it wasn't low. It was right on the money.
We are beyond this "Managing the game" Bull$hit . . . it's quite clear this offensive line cannot get anything going when we're in "Managing the game" mode with a QB who is not a threat either passing or running.
-
so why not try some other options
We refuse.
was there enough material last night for a video? :crossfingers:
-
If we are going to disrupt the current flow of the offense 6 weeks in like this is there any reason why we wouldn't use both Klien and Lamur to give different looks. VTech and LSU used to do it, granted both Qb's were much better than ours, but the idea is the same.
-
I thought I saw a noticeable burst of energy from the rest of the offense when the other QBs came in. I think the whole 15-play drive in 3-5 yard chunks without scoring any points may be wearing on the rest of the offense with Coffman behind center.
-
Keep in mind that Lamur was going against Nebraska's 2nd/3rd string defense. I doubt he would have been any more successful against their first string than Coffman was. Don't mistake me for a Coffman apologist, I think he's terrible. I'm just not convinced we have anybody better.

I don't think it's possible for Lamur to be any worse. So having a QB that is as bad at throwing, but is faster would make sense.
-
QB's are taught basically three basic throws: trajectory 1 - on a rope; trajectory 2 - small arc with good speed; trajectory 3 - high arc soft touch. Slamur seems to be the only one who actually has the mechanics to make all three throws. Problem is I don't think he has the arm strength to throw across the field, out routes from the opposite hash w/ a trajectory 1 or 2. He is obviously the more gifted runner of the three. Kline is sunshine from Remember the Titans, can run ok, can't make a pitch, and has great arm strength but may not have enough touch. Coffman has horrible mechanics and just needs to be out of the mix. He plays scared and looks like a statue when blitzed. None of them are terribly accurate throwers.
I think Slamur is the guy. I think he could improve the QB run game, have some type of vertical passing game and make the throws needed to run screens. Snyder needs to get back to his offense and stop this super run heavy stuff.
I want to see vertical passing, screen passing game, TE passing (threat has to be there when LB's are craming the box), QB running game (zone read and draws from shotgun), option (shotgun and I-form.), Daniel Thomas running from shotgun and I-form.
-

We run "Bend but don't Break" on both sides of the ball. :blindfold:
-
If there is anything we learned from last night... It's that a QB running game is worthless. Seriously, did Martinez even break a run for more than 5 yards?
-
Hey OB, start SLamur against KU or GTFO!!
-
If Queso Cheese has actually really checked at the line this (and not just faking it) . . . has there been anything that he's checked into that was really that fantastic??
Carson correctly checked into an option to the short side when he recognized that they were coming on a corner blitz....then proceded to f'ing pitch the ball (a) late and (b) a tad behind Thomas, allowing the safety enough time to come over and make the tackle...I think it was on a 3rd down and 3 when the game was around 14-3 or something like that.
the short of it is that I don't want to lose with Carson. I'd rather lose with Klein or Slamur. I just can't stand the look on Carson's face. His face just makes me want to punch him in the face.

I hate to break it to you guys but if you think Coffman is bad, what do you think the 3rd stringer behind him looks like? SLamur didn't even start at either of the jucos he attended. Might as well get used to the idea that we're gonna win about 3 of the next 7 games and get our heads caved in in some crappy bowl this year. We'll have some good options at QB next year, but we ain't got crap for QB options this year.

Yes, because Bill is known for knowing which rough ridin' QB to start at the beginning of a season.
-
Are you referring to the one season when Bill was juggling between the #1 juco QB in the country and a sophomore ell roberson who couldn't hit the side of a barn?
-
No one is saying that Lamur is definitively better you rough ridin' dipshit. The dude can run, and that's better than anything Carson Coffman can do.
Give the guy a shot is all we're asking.

I bet Lamur's confidence was super high from running the zone read for our scout team all week.
-

There were two of those seasons. 01 and 02. Ell didn't start until after the USC game in '02.

This. Also: it is physically impossible to be worse than Coffman, so at worst we're a wash with Lamur. What about that don't you get? So at worst we're exactly where we are, but with an athletic-looking (black) guy instead of the guy on the cover of M.A.D. Magazine.
-

Right on. We are better running a more Snyder-like offense w/ a more Snyder-like QB and struggling to squeak out 2 to 3 more wins than we are suffering through a lame duck senior QB who can't handle contributing to the strength of this teams offensive personnel (running the ball).

MANHATTAN — Tensions remain in the Middle East, and Kansas State has questions at quarterback.
So, what else is new?
The remarkable thing, perhaps, is that it took this long. Carson Coffman was relatively unchallenged as K-State's starter through the first month of the season, but that changed following Thursday's 48-13 drubbing against Nebraska.
Coach LHC Bill Snyder said the competition between Coffman and backup Collin Klein "probably opens itself up a little more" after K-State's offense sputtered against the Cornhuskers.
Coffman, who completed 14 of 22 passes for 91 yards, wasn't visibly surprised by the news.
"I'm just going to come to practice like I do every week and work hard," he said. "If that's the case, then so be it."
Klein replaced Coffman for one series in the third quarter with the Wildcats trailing 31-3. It was Klein's first significant action aside from a series against UCLA when Coffman was injured and some late-game mop-up snaps.
Coffman started the next series, threw a 1-yard completion and immediately was replaced by Klein. Coffman returned to lead K-State's only touchdown drive before giving way to Sammuel Lamur.
That leaves the quarterback situation as muddled as ever, though Klein doesn't expect big changes in practice.
"It's a competition every day, no matter if it's open or it's closed," said Klein, a sophomore. "It's just the nature of the position.
"When things are going well, the quarterback looks pretty good. When things aren't going well, the quarterback sometimes doesn't look that good."
Coffman's performance wasn't especially atypical. Most of his completions came on check-downs and short passes, with his longest gain going for 17 yards. He threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Chris Harper and an interception on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half.
"I threw some low balls, missed some protection calls," said Coffman, a fifth-year senior. "I'm going to have to watch the film and see everything."
Klein finished 2-for-2 passing for 16 yards and ran six times for 33 yards.
"I think I did pretty well," he said. "I was able to make a couple throws out there, but it's just a matter of getting better."
The obvious rationale behind a quarterback change would be to add mobility under center. Coffman, the most stationary of K-State's quarterbacks, finished with 45 rushing yards Thursday but was stopped on a key fourth down early in the game.
"Collin's a big guy, and he can run a little bit better than Carson," Harper said. "That's really the difference the them. Other than that, Carson has the leadership. He's a captain and things like that."
Klein said the opportunity to win the starting job won't change his mindset.
"To be perfectly honest, if I were to kick it up a gear, it means I wasn't in gear to start with," he said. "I would really need to check my motives on that. I try my very best to practice as hard as I possibly can. I don't think that's going to change."

Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dumb are also not running the offense I described, They are running some crapfest to fit Coffman

Not that they didn't interview slammur.

Why didn't we get Bishop to suit up in SLamur's jersey? I mean both are black, it would have worked!
-
Lamur is the best athlete of the the three.
Lamar should be our starter against ku. Why the hell not. We run the same 5 or 6 plays with Carson in, I'm sure Lamar can run them as well.
The gay guy from revenge of the nerds? uk would be sooooo jealous

Are you referring to the one season when Bill was juggling between the #1 juco QB in the country and a sophomore ell roberson who couldn't hit the side of a barn?
whos that?

Damnit, that WOULD have worked

“Tuggle’s top attribute is his athleticism. He is cat quick in the pocket and is very dangerous when things break down because he can make a play with his arm and legs. Tuggle can throw on the run and is so elusive in the open field. He shows a very strong arm and the ability to throw the deep out with a lot of velocity. Seems to see the field real well"

Other players have no idea what to say when trying to come up with positives for Offman.

The saddest part of all is . . . when you begin to analyze it Snyder hasn't recruited that many quarterbacks to K-State:
May, Miller and Webb were all transfers from other D1 schools. So that leaves Smargeso, Kavenaugh, Beasley, Bishop, Roberson, Dunn, Meier, Swift . . . of which; 2 sucked, 3 was serviceable but I'd take them now, 3 were very good. That's really not a very good record for a coach that's been at a D1 school for 17 years, not good at all.
-
I remember being very excited when we got Marc Dunn. Then he turned out to be a crappy Mormon football player.
-
I bet Lamur's confidence was super high from running the zone read for our scout team all week.
For fucks sake, he probably averaged 20 a carry for 2 weeks of practice, and OBz still wasn't swayed.

You forgot that OB also recruited Evridge and Lopina - both of whom I would take over what we have now

Either Lamur sucks at the zone read, or Snyder wasn't paying attention when Cosh's Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) defensive was practicing against it.

why would we need Lamur when we have a stud like this??

Listened to Stanbot on 810 and the bot is full of crap.
His new crockamamy theory is that OB is going to go a rotational QB scheme with different packages for each.
Of course this was all laid out in amazingly over-analytical detail.
Seriously, only a insufferable doofus like d__scott fritchen would buy this crap.
OB is what he is. And the dog ain't going to be taught new tricks.
The only way Klein or Slamur sniff the field is when we're down 14 points next week in Lawrence and we've already pissed the game away. We need to face the reality - we are going down with the Carsy ship.

the boat is riddled with leaks. it's going down regardless of who the captain is. better off trying to get the boat owner to retire from boating and replace him with a pirate. damn fellas. see what i just did there? :users:

Too far from the mothership, the impurity of all of the heathens in Kansas drug him down. He'd have been a Heisman finalist at BYU. :users:

Quality post, this.
No this isn't a quality post. This was by far the worst play call you could have made for the exact thing that happened.
The correct call would be to put the ball in the hands of one of your top 5 best players and make him work. Chris Harper would have been able to fall forward and get a first down off a quick out or quick in post. The safety was NO WHERE near the line and the outside line backer was still pushing to the end for containment. The corner was already 3 yards off harper looking in, IGNORING Chris.
The check was the worst play call possible short of pitching it directly into NU's hands intentionally.
This is why we are failing. Our best players are not getting the ball. Harper and Smith were IGNORED like Rand Moss, except we were getting the ass beating instead of delivering it.

it's smargiasso and he was a transfer. you also left out a bunch. also, who's swift?

Why don't transfers count?

can we get a video of lamur's, "the pass"?
-
Why don't transfers count?
who knows? god? doubtful. why did he misspell two of the names? why is cody lee smith not mentioned? what about pete jelovic? apparently good enough to doorguy at turtles but not good enough to make dax's list. the world will be left wondering. evridge? i mean, who put this list together?

This team has much bigger problems than who gets to suck at quarterback. Chris Cosh's defense made Tim Tibesar look good last night. There is not a single defensive player that I thought played better than terrible, and the scheme was even worse. :flush:
