Michael off to a nice start with the Timberwolves in their first preseason game. 21 pts in 18 minutes....plus a Manhattan, KS reference on SportsCenter!  :bball:

At one point during an officials' review, Michael Beasley sat on the scorers' table and chatted with Bucks TV analyst Jon McGlocklin, who asked him about Minnesota's weather.

"I'm already freezing," Beasley quipped after being dealt from Miami in a trade that helped the Heat clear salary cap space to sign LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

He would probably relate with the comic book cover, then. Better buy some warmer clothes, Beaz, it's gonna get a lot worse.

STARE-DOWN

Did you see Beasley walk forward after missing a free throw in each of the team's first preseason games, tilt his head and glare at the rim?

WELL, HERE'S THE STORY:

"That's a college job," said Beasley, who played one season at Kansas State. "Luis Colon was my college center. He's a big Spanish guy and when big Spanish guys get mad, they start speaking Spanish real fast. Every time he missed, he'd look at the rim and curse the rim out. So every time I miss, I'm trying to get the gremlin off the top of the rim."

Kevin Pelton of Basketball Prospectus says that Michael Beasley's red-hot shooting efficiency is bound to come to an end soon.
Pelton cites data that shows Beasley is scoring the vast majority of his points with mid-range jumpers and getting almost no buckets in the paint. He's shooting almost 43 percent from 16-to-23 feet, a number only sustainable by the best shooters in the league. Take this data with Beasley's lack of 3-pointers, blocks and assists, and we have ourselves a perfect "sell high.

I keep looking at Beaz' rebounds and thinking: that's not very good.  And then I look at Love's line.  Beaz is really tearing crap up now.  Last five games he's averaging like 33 pts/g and they're actually winning more than they lose.  I haven't had crap to root for since KG left town so I'm happy as hell now.  (Which means I'm actually watching NBA games again.)

Wow. Beasley is averaging 32.6 ppg over his last five games and his confidence is now through the roof. If you can find an owner thinking it's time to sell high, go ahead and get him. And if you own him, while he isn't likely to stay this hot all season, he's locked and loaded as the No. 1 offensive option in Minnesota, meaning he should produce all season. Yes, he's probably technically a sell-high guy, but he's not going to just stop scoring and being a workhorse for the Wolves as long as he's healthy.

Rotoworld quickly realizing that this Kevin Pelton guy is a rough ridin' dipshit and that they erred in repeating his rough ridin' terrible advice. They should have known, this is Basketball Prospectus, they hate anyone and anything Qatz-related.  :curse:

Beasley is third in the league in points per minute behind Kobe and Martin from Houston. He's better than them in FG percentage. Bottom line, needs to shoot more.

he seems alot leaner since leaving Manhattan.

it seemed like he slimmed down during this offseason i dont think he lost a ton of pounds but he it seems like he lost some body fat. i remember in preseason he said he was doing a lot of running. coming to the timberwolves it was pretty clear kevin love would play power forward and beasley at small forward where the heat wanted him more at power forward (although he did play sf depending on the heat lineup on the floor). so he is prob trying to be a little more lean to keep up with the other 3s rather then having to bang with the 4s.

can you post a quick summary of what was said. im not a BS fan

Beasley is third in the league in points per minute behind Kobe and Martin from Houston. He's better than them in FG percentage. Bottom line, needs to shoot more.

since his 42 point outburst on the 10th they have been getting him the ball more and he has been shooting more. with them winning 3 out of their last 5 games im sure they will keep looking to him. would be nice if he can get some more free throws though a lot of his points are long jumpers

(BS & KL)
-he's playing great and a great teammate
-their rivalry going back to h.s. days on aau circuit
-MB playing the 3 spot and the match up problems he creates
-MB's positive attitude

(BS & Joe House)
-Minnesota got a great deal
-wondered why OKC or LAC or some other team made a mistake by not trading for MB.
-House not as sold as BS on Beasley's "return".
-questioned his character: not saying he's a bad guy or bad teammate just that he has some personal demons.

I've been saying that crap ever since the Wolves drafted Love.  Dude is great for a few games and then disappears for like 10 games.  FP, TC, etc.

That's been Beasley's rap too. Hopefully his recent shift in gears is permanent.

Doesn't exactly pertain to this situation.  25/10 is a solid game for anyone.

That Heat castoff was Mike's defensive assignment. I've watched a lot of games this year and in everyone hes had several mental lapses that left his man wide open. This game might have been the worst. If he doesn't get it corrected he's going to be known more as a defensive liability than an offensive asset. That's how bad its been this week.

D-Wade? Pat Riley? Nope. Even though he spent only one season at Kansas State, Beasley still turns to Wildcats coach Frank Martin, who he credits with preparing him for the rigors of pro ball.

“I talk to coach a lot,” Beasley said. “I don’t think he likes it, but I bug him a lot.”

They're incredibly young, just one player older than 25 and that's Luke Ridnour.  Brady Morningstar would be the 5th oldest player on the roster.  They have 11 players with 3 or less years experience in the league.  They are still in rebuilding mode.  If anything they are exceeding their expectations.

His #'s were up this year(19 pts, 5.6 boards, 2.2 asts) and he had some moments but the Wolves got into a tailspin late they just couldn't excape(not that they were a playoff team to begin with).

Heard that they were in talks with the Pistons and Cavs that would give the Cavs the first and second pick, and the T'Wolves would get the fourth and eighth pick of this year's draft. If Kanter is taken, I assume they'd get Leonard from San Diego State with the 4th pick, and move Beasley back to PF, and Love to C. If Kemba Walker was still available for the 8th pick, that'd be a pretty good get for PG.

I become optimistic in the offseason. Realistically they'll probably end up with Burks if the deal happens.

On an unrelated note, I read somewhere that the Pacers may trade Granger to the T'Wolves for Beasley. Would hate to see Rush and Beasley on the same team.

T'Wolves' assistant GM says they are keeping the #2 pick for now. Wish they would have made a deal to get somebody with maturity and experience. That is, assuming they wouldn't be trading Beasley to get him. In that case I wouldn't care at all about what they were doing, and would start caring about the team that Beasley got traded to.

Not to distract from Beasley and all, but why does anyone think Rubio will be good in the NBA?

Same reason anyone believes anyone will be good in the NBA. He did well at  the previous level he was at.

Did/does well in international competition i.e. the Olympics.

Pretty sure I heard he is coming off the bench for his current team and averaging 7 pts and 2 assists a game.....

1. He was a starter
2. His ppg is unimportant, he has never been known as a scorer, he's a point guard who creates for others.
3. He averaged nearly 4 assists pg
4. He is still only 20 years old and has been playing against grown men for 6 years

He is still an unknown project.  When he was wowing people in the Olympics he was a 17 year old in the gold medal game playing against the best players in the world.  He was a prodigy, its now time to see if he will develop or if he was just a freak teenager and not much else.

Could the Wolves say no to this offer: (The Warriors') Ellis to Minnesota for Johnson and Beasley? I say they do it, and I think it’d be a good trade for both parties involved. The Wolves get the scoring guard that they need, and the Warriors bring in stability at the forward position alongside Stephen Curry, David Lee, and Thompson.

The T-Wolves are going to be pissed when Derrick Williams only produces about 1/2 of b-easy if they do this trade
                                   however
Beasley/Johnson for Ellis pretty good trade imo

That's a really good trade for all involved, makes too much since for David Kahn.

Latest is that Milwaukee and New Orleans are showing interest in picking up Beasley.

If Bill and Mike are reunited, I would be a bigger Knicks fan that Spike Lee.

A trade to the New York Knicks is also be an interesting scenario.  Mike D'Antonio would love to work with Beasley's offensive skill set and would look past his defensive deficiencies.  If the Knicks are content with starting Amare Stoudamire at center, Beasley could form one high-powered front court with Amare and Carmelo Anthony.
