Looks like the swim team's got some new digs. Hoops wasn't drawing anyways.

Couldn't they have gotten the court picked up? Most of those bitches come apart and can be moved?

The volleyball team still uses Hilton to practice, and its not like we have a separate court just for the vball team to practice with. I wish they had just practiced in a gym on campus but we can't exactly change what happened now. This court had the likes of Hoiberg, Cato, Fizer, Tinsley, Sullivan play on it so its kind-of sad that it will be gone. They will probably auction off pieces of the court. I'll definitely try to buy a piece of the court. In the meantime, I get to have a lot of photoshop fun making a new basketball court!!

Havs, best of luck. Hope you all's houses ain't flooded. If they are, let me know and I will prob come and help out with the rebuilding effort. But just to let you know I won't help fix anything in the floodplain. By this point in time you all should know that you built you all's houses in a disaster area. Got 100+ yrs of history saying yes'm. Just don't do it again. tia

The spish-splash and the soggy socks make the moldy feet you see. You gotta whoosh WHOOSH all that water to get it to go to the place where the water goes after it's been whooshed and then you get to play with your bouncy ball you see.

Rudy! I've missed you you see. Now go wash your hands because your momma almost has dinner ready you see.

Let's get this thread back on track you see. Why don't they just dig a really big hole, you see? That way when the water gets a drip-droppin' and a beeboppin' all over the place it will just go into the big hole you see. You could even put a big plug in it and then pull the plug out and go WEEEEE! and ride around on it like a tornado in a bath tub you see.

Looks like their Corn/Pig God is angry. Again. Probably should have built the v-ball team a practice facility. Hell, the WSU v-ball team has dedicated practice facilities.

Probably should have stayed away from goEMAW.com yesterday... 3 hours of sleep and hours of sandbagging= Crabby Havs. People are in much higher spirits today all across Ames and Central Iowa.
The only buildings at ISU in the floodplain are Hilton, Scheman, Jack Trice, and the Lied Rec Center. Every dorm and every classroom at Iowa State will be ready for students for classes this fall. Move-in begins Sunday. The University of Iowa has over half of their campus within a block of the Iowa River and lost almost 1/3 of their buildings in 2008. Students at U of I in 2008 took classes in churches, restaurants, hallways, closets, etc. or were just told to find another school. I'm content with damage to a few athletic facilities if the rest of the campus is high and dry. I've said this time and time again that Hilton was built on the cheapest land possible at the cheapest price possible in 1971 simply because we wanted out of the Old Armory. The same is with Jack Trice and Iowa State wanting out of Clyde Williams Field.
Back when Hilton and Jack Trice were proposed, the last flood in the area now known as the Iowa State Center hadn't had a flood since 1918. That flood was nowhere near as bad as what we saw yesterday. Ames has had THREE "1,000 year floods" (meaning a flood with the likelihood of happening once every 1,000 years) in the last 17 years... In theory, we should now be clear until the year 5010 but I'm not putting my guard down. Expect flood gates to be constructed around Hilton Coliseum in your next few trips to Hilton. I will be extremely surprised if any major renovations are ever made to Hilton again; we may just let Hilton get old and then replace it with a new arena on higher ground somewhere near Welch and Hayward Avenues, and Mortensen Road. In the meantime, Fred Hoiberg will use the following line.... "see, _(insert school here)_ doesn't have a practice facility, if it floods, gets damaged, or is wiped off the face of the earth; you'll be left without your own practice gym... you're much too good to have to practice in a public gym."
Suck it Bramlage.
Suck it wheat field with "Practice Facility Coming Soon" sign.

I'm not comfortable with our Cats playing in that death trap. The ames game should be moved to OOD. Or kick isu out of the conference.

Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines is where our home games will be played if Hilton is not ready. Last week I actually thought it'd be cool if Farmageddon was played at Wells Fargo and Sprint instead of Hilton and Bramlage. To each his own I guess.

Recruit: Can I take a look a the court where I'll play home games?
F. Hoiberg: (blushing) ummm, it's under 8 feet of water from the Skunk.
Recruit: That's cool, you are my only offer.
To be fair, the court is actually floating above the 8 feet of water... in one piece I might add. If thats not Hilton Magic, Hilton Physics is still pretty damn cool.
Dude, I saw the video. And I didn't see an intact court floating.
And I'd rather take a float trip on the Skunk than go to Des Moines for a game.

Check out picture one and tell me if you don't see a court with volleyball nets up.
EDIT: This may be a time for you to check out the new video boards, LED ribbon, and new sound system... all still in tact.

Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines is where our home games will be played if Hilton is not ready.
Weird. From what I've learned around here, I'd have thought it'd be played in Minneapolis.
Neutral site games with Wisconsin or North Dakota State have been considered there. Very good assumption, but no.

Relax, pretty sure that the Fossil store is one the second floor. Save us the trouble of using the stairs, we can just canor right on up to the door. Also, it's an apparel store, not one of those sorry little accessory POS's.
-
Weird, the video looked a lot different. Just exactly what kind of scam are you corn/pig farmers trying to pull up there? :nono:

Insurance mostly. I prayed really hard last week for ISU to get a new basketball court though, and I got my wish. I have God on my side, watch out.

Just settled it that I won't be going to Ames for any games. I am an excellent swimmer but stinky, dirty water grosses me out and it looks like Ames is just a big pool of dookie.

I'm not comfortable with our Cats playing in that death trap. The ames game should be moved to OOD. Or kick isu out of the conference.
I'm with Trim on this one. We could slip.....or even worse, drown!!! :ohno:
The last thing that we can afford to happen to end our championship dream would be for Kelly to go up for a dunk in Hilton then come down from the rim and drown.

Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines is where our home games will be played if Hilton is not ready. Last week I actually thought it'd be cool if Farmageddon was played at Wells Fargo and Sprint instead of Hilton and Bramlage. To each his own I guess.

The court itself is 15 feet above record flood stage. Plus, its winter and everything will freeze in place instead of float downstream. The City of Des Moines and Polk County spent upwards of $300 million on the arena so it is safe to say they have more access to flood prevention technology.
-
Havs, i hope you find the Pioneer logo off of your court in the floodwaters. Would make a real nice Christmas present in Iowa.

When Tuttle Creek floods, will the mayor of Manhattan claim the town as a flavor of chocolate like New Orleans' Mayor Ray Nagin. "New Orleans is a chocolate city." Ames Mayor Anne Campbell didn't and I was kind-of disappointed. "Ames is a egg roll city with a side of rice."

Did Jeff Dunham explain that he was not actually in possession of talking dolls, or did he just let the audience continue to believe he was a witch?

holy crap havs, is everyone and their dog planning on going to ISU volleyball games or what? :excited:
If there's one thing besides pigcornGod every clonetard loves, it's the purity and sanctity of high school athletics :opcat: That and community.
"There are so many people that have offered us assistance over the last week and we are very grateful to each of them," Iowa State volleyball coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said in a statement. "The generosity of the women's basketball staff, Dickson Jensen, who owns West Towne Courts, and Judge Johnston and the people at Ames High School is something we will never forget."
The seating capacity at Ames High School is approximately 2,000 fans. The Iowa State Athletics Department will reserve seats for Cyclone volleyball fans, who have purchased a season ticket.
:surprised:

11,000 fans were at Nebraska match last year. 5,000 for Texas.

This thread went all over the place, as it was expected and supposed to, but today AD Jamie Pollard, President Geoffrey, the Director of Finance, and the Buildings Manager at Iowa State had a press conference updating on the flood situation. Some of you may find this interesting how a school goes about recovering from a disaster of this magnitude.

Many people questioned why Iowa State was unable to prevent this flood; a flood in 2008 matched the flood of 93 in Ames and improvements to Hilton kept water out of the building. This flood last week was roughly 2-3 feet higher (seems like not much, but actually a huge difference) than 1993, and simply went over all preventative measures to keep Hilton dry. It was the largest flood in recorded history, and geological investigations will tell just how long it has been since the last flood of this magnitude. Some comments in the press conference led to the possibility of completely renovating Hilton now since large portions of the building will be torn up anyway. Quite a few preventative flood measures will also be implemented and constructed over the next few years.
Although I wish this hadn't happened, being a Community & Regional Planning major at Iowa State, I find this all quite interesting.

Community and regional planner? I have a buddy that's getting married next spring, maybe I can get you in touch with his fiance so you guys can go over flowers and menus and such?

What I don't get is why playing games in The Well is not an option. Purely a scheduling issue with various hair bands/reunion tours or what? :blindfold:

You know, if we didn't beat them all the time, I'd say that we and Iowa would be fantastic candidates for sister schools. We're both in flyover country and we both have an annoying in-state little brother with a white trash fanbase who are experts in warming up tractors. Also, nobody on the coasts can tell Big Brother or Little Brother apart

WOW. Speaks volumes about UNL academics. I thought LSU might be the most pud university in the BCS.
-
Pretty much nobody in the Big 12 wants to go dipping into the academic argument, at least in regards to athletes. Everybody will let just about anybody in if the wheels are greased enough.

What bigtime conference member doesn't have this? Maybe ND, Duke on occasions, maybe Stanford, Northwestern.....there ain't many that won't make damn sure a stupid 5* gets in.

Yeah. And in the case of Duke basketball, I'm pretty sure the wheels get greased too. I think Stanford, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt are really the only BCS schools that actually adhere to their school's normal set of academic admissions standards.
But yeah, LSU is pretty damn easy to get into, and yet there are a number of really talented athletes who STILL can't get in to their football program and end up going to 1-AA McNeese and occasionally Southeastern Lousiana and Northwestern State. McNeese has won a number of conference championships off the backs of LSU non-qualifiers who are talented enough to knock around their 1-AA counterparts but not talented enough for LSU to invest themselves in exploiting a loophole or two to get them in. I'm sure their basketball program is the same way. Nebraska needs the talent, so they'll find a way to get Spencer in. Even if the NCAA puts the kibosh on the transfer (they won't), NU could just funnel him to a JUCO for a semester or two and pump his grades up. Nebraska is well-known among coaching circles for having athletes take a crapload of courses at JUCO's during the summer and then giving them like...3 hours of coursework during the academic year, and then they count those JUCO grades into their whole Academic All-American count. Hence the inflated numbers in that department.

Nebraska is well-known among coaching circles for having athletes take a crapload of courses at JUCO's during the summer and then giving them like...3 hours of coursework during the academic year, and then they count those JUCO grades into their whole Academic All-American count. Hence the inflated numbers in that department.
I think Vandy made a little run at getting some morons in, realized that they can't steal enough morons from Fulmer to be really goos, and went back to being smart and crapty.
Certainly in the Big XII, no one is in a position to throw rocks, least of all Nebraska.

Can't believe this became a 6 page thread and I'm the first one to coin the term: Arktagon of Doom

If you dig stinky old buildings that are full of mud and built in a flood plain.

Yeah. And in the case of Duke basketball, I'm pretty sure the wheels get greased too. I think Stanford, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt are really the only BCS schools that actually adhere to their school's normal set of academic admissions standards.
Can confirm that Duke has seperate entrance requirements for its student athletes, it really pisses off the academics there too.

It is pretty sad when a stinky old building full of mud and built in a flood plain is nicer than the basketball arena currently at Kansas State University.

Only at Iowa State can "jumping ship" be so literal...

Wait, skunk creek is on the other side of town? So, skunk creek flooded the entire town? Damn, somebody really needs to teach you guys some community planning skills. Obviously, no one in the entire town has an education at all about how to properly design cities. Maybe some one from Des Moines can help you guys design after you rebuild?

I wasn't in the program yet; we wouldn't be in this situation if I was around.

Probably not bro, cause you'll be learning from the same people who designed Lake Hilton. We the levee deisgners from NOLA too busy to teach the class or something?
