This is a thread for honest steel-manning of the Project 2025 initiative put forward by the Heritage Foundation and former members of the Trump administration (who are likely members of a future Trump administration).

ANYTHING GOES, LET’S DISCUSS!

Outlawing porn…while arguably a first amendment right, it’s probably best if porn didn’t exist. I do enjoy the occasional 2 minutes of porn, but I could live without it and I acknowledge that kids with unfettered access to internet porn is bad.
-
Limiting Immigration, and/or more strictly tying immigration to filling specific vocational needs.
….no objection from me, and it seems to make common sense to avoid using valuable domestic social service resources for non-citizens. Seems wise to bolster our workforce from a larger pool of candidates (eg global).
-
More Nuke power plants.
Completely agree with this. The answer to our enter needs is “all of the above,” IMO. Solar, Wind, Tidal, Gas, Nuke…you rough ridin' name it, we should do it.
Balance is key. Redundancies help national security.
-
Less investment in NATO and more investment in domestic defense such as nukes.
I love NATO, but all NATO members should honor their commitments to required spending levels.
I think it’s wise to invest in an iron clad defense of our domestic borders. This seems indisputable and in line with our founders. Arguably the best defense of our borders from foreign invasion are nukes. Bigger, faster stronger “Atoms for Peace,” as fellow Kansan Ike used to say.
-
Drastically reducing federal agencies, their headcount’s, budgets, and power.
Silver lining…humans seem to enact change most efficiently in the face of calamity. Perhaps, in the long long long view of things, we Americans could benefit from a renewed appreciation of the benefits of federal regulations and programs. Might we in a 100 years say “wow the programs that came about in the 2040’s in response to corporate malfeasance were spot really effective?” Have the current departments and programs become less efficient that their founders had planned? Could be that what we Americans need is a calamity or two to right size our federal programs and revive our appreciation of them.

From a high level, its absolutely amazing to watch #blueanon spread yet another conspiracy theory and while implying that the whole of conservatism agrees with and wants something like Project 2025.

Yes, I agree that strong limitations need to be put on this stuff. Good one here.

It's perfectly applicable. But whatevs
Relative to NATO, it would help if NATO leadership would stop propagating this insane notion that Russia is going to move on the rest of Europe. They're not. There's no reason to operate in a manner that says that the United States needs to come to the rescue of Western Europe. The NATO membership's collective military spending even without the United States is far higher than Russia. The UK has nukes, France has nukes, Poland has dramatically increased military spending. The Western side (non former Soviet Bloc) countries is teeming with first world weaponry. On top of the fact that the U.S. has carriers, and is on the cusp of deploying prompt global strike capabilities. We don't need to keep spending billions on all the boots on the ground in Europe.

This seems reasonable to me. I’d add that I only agree with the “Russia won’t attack Europe” part as long as NATO is at its current strength level…I just want other nato counties to step up pay their fair share.

Agree Pete. Russia could really embarrass NATO by not invading European countries.

First you have to make the best possible case, and the most efficient way for most folks to do that is to imagine how it could benefit them or provide some “good.”

Here are three summaries from three different AI LLM’s on the key changes proposed by Project 2025
From X Gronk AI:
**Project 2025**, spearheaded by the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation, is a policy blueprint intended for implementation in a potential future Republican administration, notably associated with Donald Trump's potential second term, though it claims to be independent of any specific candidate. Here are some of the key changes proposed:
- **Government Structure and Civil Service:**
- Proposes a significant overhaul of federal agencies by reclassifying tens of thousands of federal workers as political appointees. This would allow for their replacement with individuals loyal to the president, aiming to dismantle what they perceive as a "deep state" or unaccountable bureaucracy.
- **Social Policies:**
- **Abortion:** Suggests reversing FDA approval of abortion pills, tightening regulations around the mailing of abortion-related materials, and promoting a "biblically based" definition of family, without explicitly calling for a national abortion ban.
- **LGBTQ+ Rights:** Aims to remove diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, supports traditional nuclear family structures, and seeks to limit protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
- **Environmental Policy:**
- Proposes to dismantle or significantly reduce the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), eliminate NOAA, and undo federal climate policies like the Paris Climate Agreement. It advocates for promoting oil and natural gas over renewable energy sources.
- **Immigration:**
- Calls for stringent immigration policies including mass deportations, ending birthright citizenship, and reinstating policies like the "Remain in Mexico" program. It also seeks to reduce the number of visas issued to students from certain countries.
- **Economic and Labor Policies:**
- Suggests changes to labor laws that could reduce overtime pay, weaken worker safety rules, and potentially increase workplace discrimination by altering existing regulations.
- **Education:**
- Advocates for the elimination of the Department of Education, shifting more control to states and local governments, and redirecting public funds towards private and religious schooling.
- **Public Broadcasting and Media:**
- Recommends defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, potentially removing noncommercial status for NPR, and allowing more media consolidation by altering FCC rules.
- **Executive Power:**
- Embraces a "unitary executive theory," which would give the president more direct control over the executive branch, significantly increasing executive power and reducing the independence of federal agencies.
- **Other Areas:**
- Proposes ending student loan forgiveness programs, altering Medicaid with work requirements, and changing the structure and focus of departments like Housing and Urban Development and Homeland Security.
Project 2025 has been criticized for its authoritarian tendencies, its potential to erode checks and balances, and for promoting policies that could significantly reshape American governance and society in a conservative direction. Despite Trump's claims of not being involved, numerous former Trump administration officials contributed to the document, indicating significant overlap with his political sphere.
From ChatGPT:
Project 2025’s 180-Day Playbook proposes several key changes focused on aligning federal government operations with conservative principles. Here’s a summary of the primary proposed changes:
1. Restructuring Federal Agencies: Streamline agencies to reduce bureaucracy and remove roles viewed as unnecessary or redundant. This includes reorganizing departments to emphasize accountability and align with conservative priorities.
2. Personnel Overhaul: Appoint personnel who are committed to conservative policies and reduce the influence of career bureaucrats, targeting the so-called “deep state.” This includes establishing a robust vetting and training program to ensure appointees are prepared to implement the agenda effectively.
3. Fiscal Responsibility: Reduce government spending by cutting budgets across federal agencies, focusing on eliminating what is seen as wasteful or excessive spending. The goal is to shrink the overall size and cost of government.
4. Energy Independence and Deregulation: Prioritize policies that promote domestic energy production, reduce reliance on foreign energy sources, and roll back environmental regulations that are seen as overly restrictive to the energy sector.
5. Education and Cultural Policies: Shift federal education policy towards promoting school choice, parental rights, and a curriculum that emphasizes traditional American values. This includes reducing federal influence over local education systems.
6. Border and National Security: Strengthen border security measures, enforce stricter immigration policies, and redirect resources to ensure robust enforcement of immigration laws.
7. Economic Deregulation: Roll back regulations affecting businesses, especially small businesses, to promote economic growth and reduce government intervention in the market. This includes easing rules on sectors like finance, manufacturing, and agriculture.
The overarching vision is to reduce federal government influence, promote conservative values, and ensure policies are executed by individuals aligned with these goals within the first 180 days of a conservative administration.
From Perplexity AI
Project 2025 proposes significant changes, including:
- **Federal Agencies**: Abolishing the Departments of Education and Homeland Security, and scaling down others like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration[1][2][3].
- **Economy**: Cutting corporate and personal income taxes, potentially abolishing the Federal Reserve, and moving towards a consumption tax[2][3].
- **Healthcare**: Repealing Medicare drug cost caps and imposing Medicaid lifetime coverage limits[1][2].
- **Education**: Eliminating Head Start and promoting school choice by dismantling the Department of Education[1][3].
- **Climate Policy**: Reducing climate regulations and promoting fossil fuels[2][3].

That Oklahoma public school bible guy has got to be pissed about totally nailing the audition to be a very Trump-worthy Secretary of Education, only to have the Department of Education abolished.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or troll on this. How is Project 2025 different than any candidates campaign platform? Obviously it has an ominous sounding name but doesn't everyone run on a platform of proposed polices, ideas, plans, etc.

I’m guessing what’s in it. But again, just a guess.
And note that while I am trying to be sarcastic, I am not trolling.

I'm confused by the question, who has argued otherwise? It's the substance people find objectionable.

I think you are mostly right on this. I think it became an issue when democrats were like "omg, look at all this stuff that close Trump associates are planning as part of Project 2025" and trump was like "I don't know anything about these ideas or these people". Not weird or bad for a political party or think tank to have a policy agenda but Trump doesn't really like to be tied to any policy specifics beyond what feels expedient to say in the next 5 minutes.

It's not, but #blueanongE are a very simple people who don't get that most of these people who write up this stuff (on both sides) all have lunch and happy hours with each other, and visit each others homes along the Potomac and down in the Northern OBX . . .
They think it's just unique to one side.

i mean just for example they are going to abolish the department of education.

Sure, a "final solution to the Jewish question" sounds ominus but isn't it just part of a political platform? Everyone has those.

Aren't you an educator. That's the only part of project 2025 that isn't an economic provision that could have every day effect on my household. I'm married to a public educator in a red state with limited private education. We already have a voucher system here, that isn't going well. We really need to have the ability to have a federal check to balance the state's power here.

Yeah I was for 11 years. My last year teaching was 2018 though.

Also the porn ban is stupid and has failed before. Kids today have no more access to unfettered porn than I did in the early 90s. We're now 2 and a half generations into the internet age. There are a significant amount of people in Washington who grew up with porn on the internet, that's a lame excuse for pushing a part of a nonsecular agenda. Putting all these zealots in the judiciary who have little to no interest in actually abiding by the constitution just might work.

In the early 90’s from home I used to have to wait for a jpg to download row by row at 14.4K or 24K speed, and I’d see row by tiny row until about 5 minutes into it when I decided whether to close it due to it being a gross one and need to pick a different one. The actual content of what I could see in pictures was much more wild than it is today, but the speed was terrible.
Dugout Dickstone and I took a computer inter-session course over Xmas break one year at dear old KSU and sat in the back and tried to gross each other out by searching for the most messed up stuff using KSU’s high speed connection. You name it, we could find it back then.

I had a roll of porn mags rolled up in the sleeve of my letter jacket, that my mom found by the way. My porn collection was from the convenience store and from friends. In addition to this I could turn on HBO and cinemax every night after 10 and beat my dick raw. Yes, the internet makes access to porn easier, but to act like we couldn't see tits nearly whenever we wanted is inaccurate.
Also please let's not skip over the other point that porn has been available on the internet for 30 years now.
-
My junior year I was walking to school with a friend and we found a stash of like a dozen mags just laying in the bushes a couple of blocks from school. No idea how they got there but I know how they left from that bush.

Hahaha that reminds me of when Marlatt Hall added "high speed" internet. What a game changer. It became possible to download grainy jpgs and bitmaps in only 30 seconds instead of several minutes like you described. It was probably T1 or ISDN or whatever the space age technology was at that time (1994ish?)
-
That t1 connect at haymaker was choice. I downloaded so many copyrighted songs

I once created a fake email address for Wally Jones (Askia's dad) that linked to a very gross one. I also searched for barracuda injuries of people because I was going to the bahamas for a month and sent awful leg wound photos to a chi o i was trying to beems.
All of this took many minutes and was in no way as easy as it is now

I had a 56k modem equipped computer in my room in HS :gocho:. My friends and I would print black and white porn pics on my dot matrix for lols. One day I came home and moms was really mad at me. Her and her BF went to my room to use the computer (maybe to look at porn :dunno: ) and I had a bunch of those pictures just laying around. ha

I'm not saying there weren't opportunities to look at playboys and hustlers or to stay up till your parents went to bed to watch softcore on HBO or skinemax back in the early 90s. I'm saying porn is a lot more accessible now than it was back then.
Nearly everyone has the most depraved porn the internet has to offer at their fingertips now. That's different than in 1994.
I know that really wasn't the thrust ( ;) ) of your original post, that just struck me as bonkers.
-
The availability of porn is wildly different now. I mean, we have tech that will make an AI vid of randos off the street.
Also, look at pop culture. I would bet money that the mainstreaming of things like eating ass and other formerly considered off the wall and extreme things are due to porn.
I am pro porn, but also think it should be as difficult as possible for a kid to get that on their phone.

It's true. It's really complicated things with my step family.
I lol’d

Should have been airlifting JUGGS magazines to NK imo

Wait who is tracking ass-eating trends

In the early 90’s we could easily find things like people having sex with animals and darn near snuff style things using the totally unfiltered campus high speed connections. It was bonkers. Dude would say go check out some random bbs and it was like instant eyeball trauma.

Top men. I remember ass-eating statistics being studied early on during COVID. They drilled down hard on the data.

Yeah, some Chinese guy eating a bat's ass in a lab in Wuhan was how it all got started.

Likely appointed head of FCC wrote part of 2025. Wants to ensure companies can use data caps to screw consumers. Hope the kids have parents that can afford good data plans!!!!

I remember when our son was 12 years old and my wife did a search history on his computer and found that "big boobs" was a fairly regular search for him. I was kind of proud.
-
the availability of porn is a parental problem, not big brother. maybe don't give little johnny a cellphone when he's 12.
-
OH. Shots fired.
-
also, maybe don't marry some hot ass lady with a hot ass daughter, then little johnny won't feel the need to search for that on pornhub.
sidenote: apparently pornhub is not available in oklahoma anymore, our state legislature made a law that in oklahoma, to look at porn, you have to provide proof of age like a drivers license. sites like pornhub said "nope"

that or just go to one of the other 1000 sites that aren't blocked. or just use the social media that parents allow their kids to use that is like 98% porn.

Kids today have no more access to unfettered porn than I did in the early 90s.
I must be misunderstanding you. You think porn in the early 90s is accessible as it is today?
I had a roll of porn mags rolled up in the sleeve of my letter jacket, that my mom found by the way. My porn collection was from the convenience store and from friends. In addition to this I could turn on HBO and cinemax every night after 10 and beat my dick raw. Yes, the internet makes access to porn easier, but to act like we couldn't see tits nearly whenever we wanted is inaccurate.
Also please let's not skip over the other point that porn has been available on the internet for 30 years now.
Not that it was just as easy in 1994, it's just overstated at how hard it was to access porn. You used to be able to see tits in Dillons!

It's the same in Kansas and several other states. This is what the porn ban will look like but most porn sites aren't based here and will just ignore whatever asinine law they gin up

There is quite a bit of difference in the content you were able to access in the 90s vs what is easily accessible today.

Links? This was my largest concern about Trump. Really hope he doesn’t actually embrace project 2025.

What are the cliffs on 2025? I figured it was just continuation of Trump 1.0 doctrine.

Jeez, keep reading. I am not your rough ridin' AI.

A big aim is to shrink the size of the government. Couldn’t agree more. Quite frankly just having 1 person in charge is the most efficient way to get things done.

For the record I’m not in favor of having a dictator. I’m just in favor of a single individual with absolute and unchecked power and authority to do whatever needs to be done.

MAGA will never let them ban pron

Yep. A big thing they want is to use Schedule F to reclassify a bunch of fed employees so that the president can fire them anytime he wants. P2025 has been enrolling and training conservatives to fill those rolls once Don fires them, effectively reforming a very large part of all departments to the views of the far right/Heritage Foundation. The bullshit you hear politicians say is usually just bullshit that will never make it through a vote and the day to day functioning of the overall government has always been done by the group of employees that are non-partisan jobs. Now, they are going to make those partisan jobs, meaning that the various govt departments will more align with the bullshit du jour and will have the inclination to act as such. Pick your fav govt department and imagine how that may playout with whatever issue. It is something that could have a very large actual effect on the daily lives of Americans.
It also includes getting rid of the dept of ed, rough ridin' up the post office, tariffs, no climate stuff, reworking or eliminating social security, traditional nuclear family, etc. Basically all the far right wet dream stuff you have been hearing since Reagan. That is what the Heritage guys have always been about. Is it all bad? I don't know. If fully implemented it will have huge effect. Trump doesn't care. He will pull the drastic changes and just keep moving. I imagine this is the prefect opportunity for Heritage to get trump to do the heavy cultural lifting, then slide JD in behind him and get 8 years to iron it out smooth.
I think some of it is mumped up. I think some of it might be interesting but might be a high stakes gamble.

So project 2037

Probably depends on if you like start dates or not.
