TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Football => Topic started by: kashi1965 on June 25, 2020, 09:17:38 AM

someone please educate me on how our esteemed university and athletic leaders with months of preparation behind them constructed a medical protocol that allowed returning football players out of their initial quarantine without getting a negative coronavirus test result back FIRST!!!
gene is blaming the players but the problem is the protocol. why is he not taking any blame? why are they threatening the players
they could have had an offseason workout program if they would have let just about any person in america design a protocol to get released from quarantine.
its laughable
for some reason i was worried that we would screw this up and sure enough it seems almost impossible to screw up but we did.
-
Kashi1965 - You seem angry this morning, is there anything you would like to talk to gE about?
-
good grief
-
I've actually forgotten who gene is but I am not against blaming him
-
I personally think it's stupid to think you can run a college football program without having covid run through it like crazy. Even with a "medical protocol"!
-
You have kids coming back from just about every state in the United States to MHK and you expect them to be caged up for 14 days and not trying to finger blast fillies. Grow up, Peter Pan!

I honestly couldn't have said it better myself

fort riley is banning soldiers from aggieville between the hours of 10pm-5am and if they are there during OK'd hours must wear a mask unless eating or drinking.. :surprised:

I don't want to move this to the pit. So please quit baiting dax.

honestly looks like they're doing pretty good other than gene threatening to take scholarships
The only ones who are required to stay are the 14 who have tested positive, Taylor said. Many of the infected were already living together in houses or apartments, so they can stay put. Several who live with players who did not test positive have moved into dorms by themselves.
Taylor said that workers in protective gear are delivering two meals per day, along with groceries, to the infected players.

Are they asymptomatic or what?
-
earlier gene said the entire program was shut down from working out on campus facilities. again not sure why there wasn't a protocol in place that would prevent this from ever happening.
the kids will be kids is understandable in most situations but a strong message should have been sent BEFORE any of this ever started. negative tests should have been documented BEFORE kids were allowed to interact with each other.
other programs with significantly more positives are continuing with their workouts.

Who cares dude
-
I just don't know what KSU could have done short of sealing all kids in a plastic bubble 24-7. One of my best friends, who is a young, divorced parent with a respiratory issue went on lockdown at home when this all started months ago. No one in or out of her home. She never left home (all but riding bike once in a while, and a few times curbside no contact pick up to go). All deliveries disinfected before being touched. The only contact with humans was he oldest son, who also locked down with her. She did this for over 3 months. Still got covid.
It is what it is. It is going to spread.

He provided clarity on the scholarship thing on the air with John Kurtz earlier in the week. He said that if a player repeatedly violated what is asked of the athletes and they become a danger to others they would be subjected to discipline, up to a loss of scholarship.

How so? I thought his words should have been even stronger. These students will naturally act recklessly, there needs to be a line drawn, otherwise they'll just keep acting like 18-22 year olds, which isn't great when you're trying to contain a pandemic.

IMO it's probably something the coach should be communicating. I don't feel too strongly one way or the other and I see where you're coming from so I'm not gonna belabor it. I mean overall I think he's handling it OK
-
Well it's cRusty approved, so, all good everybody!!
-
18 - 22 year olds whose prefrontal cortex is not yet formed are supposed to pretend they have one?
Kinda like JaySquarkers who never have one.
-
Kids gonna be kids :cyclist:
-
It may not be excusable for these players to act like college kids, but it's certainly UNDERSTANDABLE. My 18 - 22 year old decisions at dear old KSU were sketchy at best.
Gene pulling scholarships kinda sounds like an employer firing employees, doesn't it? :dunno:

So is there no standard at all in which a scholarship should get pulled, because student-athletes don't get a salary? Leon Patton should have stated on scholarship?

I agree with pulling Leon’s. I’m just not sure legal behavior rises to the level of scholarship pulling.

why is this the way we argue anymore? a college kid going out and hooking up with someone else and then catching covid is not the same as shaking a baby

Never said it was and neither did gene. It was an absurd device, just like thinking that the man said that getting COVID will be grounds for losing your scholarship. If you continually are putting your teammates in danger by exhibiting risky behavior, you should lose your scholarship. There are roughly a billion legal things you can do to lose a scholarship and no one would bat an eye, I would think intentionally passing a deadly disease would go to the top of that list.
-
Personally I think anything that shows reckless disregard for the well-being of someone’s teammates should be grounds for pulling their scholarship. Not passing judgment whether that happened here, but makes total sense as a standard to me.

yeah idk. we're currently the only P5 program i know of that isn't working out. all other programs had positives and found a way to keep getting better but we chose to close the program for a month. not sure if that is an advantage or not

OU didn't start until yesterday

i know. so ksu is the only p5 program not working out

That has more to do with the boycott than the Coronavirus

That isn't true. We shutdown workouts before the jaden thing. Also Lincoln told everyone who would listen that he wouldn't start workouts in June.

OU just showed up and already has 14 confirmed cases

the vast majority of programs did not stop voluntary workouts because of double digit positive tests. and OSU reportedly is only stopping for 7 days not 3 weeks. KSU basically missed their entire summer conditioning program. they took 2 weeks off now will have to spend another week quarantining in manhattan and awaiting test results again. they are one of a very few.

It's not going to end up mattering because there is no way games are being played in September.

do u think the risk of a kid dying is too high? or just people won't tolerate a few kids being quarantined every week or concerned it will be transferred to coaches/teachers?

I don't think athletes are at high risk to die. There are plenty of them that would go through a rough illness with possible long-term consequences to lung health, though. Also tons of college football fans would die, along with some coaches and professors.

why would a lot of fans die? im assuming limited or no fans will be allowed in the stadiums.

Limited fans would still crowd sizes between 20,000 and 50,000. I don't think most athletic departments would really want to or even be able to afford to have a football season without fans, either. Moving the games to the spring and hoping a vaccine is available by then would be a much better option.

well you can be assured they will look at every scenario and potential financial impacts. if they think spring is best then spring is best. but i dont think they think that it is right now. you basically pushing off everything again hoping for something to change. maybe it will but i dont think we have a vaccine by next winter and unless people get really good at wearing masks the infections will continue as a slow burn
