I've always felt the reason why Fox News is at the top is a) They cater to the right, so those who have right leaning sympathies always have a home to watch their views (usually) pan out and with the rest of the media usually left skewed, the other media outlets divide their viewers over more, while Fox doesn't have to and b) other people want to watch the craziness that is Fox News. Sort of like watching NASCAR, you don't actually care who wins but you know there will be crashes and you watch to see them happen (the stuff that creates the fodder on the Daily Show, Colbert Report et al). Wouldn't necessarily disagree that they want to be extra critical towards the current administration would allow for them to dig up stuff on Obama, but the roles of defending rather than attacking the administration were reversed only 6 years ago. So just because they are willing to ask the tough questions and investigate Obama to the hilt, all that was laughably lacking just a few years ago. Can't imagine why. FWIW, I hate pretty much 24 hour news outlets so chest pounding that you are #1 when it comes to network news reporting is like being the top student in remedial English. The whole lot of them are just a mess.
-
Dax, you've just confirmed a lot of things for me.

I watch a grand total of 0 minutes of any cable or local news a week. I get all of my news from twitter like all other non-cavemen.

I accidentally watched some local news when I was trying to see some hometown Royals coverage, it's awful.
I don't even know what channel cnn or fox is.
-
I watch WGN in the morning sometimes, but there is very little news reporting going on.

Tons of interesting info in the latest Pew Research Center study on media, but check this chart out in particular...

The Fox News audience and (much, much smaller) MSNBC audiences aren't as far apart ideologically as it might seem, and are both surprisingly close to the middle on average. This might be because a lot of conservatives occassionally tune in to MSNBC for a luagh, and perhaps vice versa.
Seems that the really committed liberals tend to gravitate towards fake news programming such as the Daily Show or Colbert Report, or state sanctioned NPR.
-
People get news from Buzzfeed?
-
that graph indicates how the audience identifies themselves and not actual content though, right?

Is brietbart, rush, hannity real news?

I'll leave this here:
NPR’s listeners best-informed, Fox viewers worst-informed

People who watch no news at all can answer more questions about international current events than people who watch cable news, a survey by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind finds.
NPR and Sunday morning political talk shows are the most informative news outlets, while exposure to partisan sources, such as Fox News and MSNBC, has a negative impact on people’s current events knowledge.
-
Is brietbart, rush, hannity real news?
No. I'm not sure who Brietbart is, so maybe him. :dunno:
IMO, Hannity is a talentless hack. Rush is a superstar, though. His radio program is basically 4 minutes of him ranting followed by 6 minutes of commercials, yet he has millions of daily listeners. To be fair, the commercials are pretty entertaining, too.
-
Brietbart was the guy that died of a coke induced heart attack last year. His biggest story was releasing the weiner dick pics

Wow - a survey about knowledge of international current events... So you're saying that people who listen to NPR are more informed than Fox News viewers about how an explosion of African horned lizards due to climate change are threatening the basket weaving trade in Botswana? I can buy that. I listen to NPR occassionally and it is pure dreck. The formula seems to be: Intro music (some weird off-key "music" or drums, followed by somebody with a milquetoast voice (British accent is a plus) telling me something I couldn't give two shits about happening on the other side of the world.

I get my news from the pit or cloak room

People get news from Buzzfeed?
Have you seen "fannings msn news clippings thread"?
-
I listen to NPR in the mornings if I have a meeting or something I have to go to.
What kind of dimwit, A.D.D. ridden too cool for schooler relies solely on Twitter for news?
Sad
THIS ONE! Actually I listen to the BBC World Business Report as well so I lied earlier. I remembered it when I was listening to BBC World Business Report over lunch today.

twitter sends links, I read the news that way.

Marketplace with Kai Risdoll (sp?) is pretty great

I usually catch the local news over lunch. Its quite the treat. Weather, Mr. Food(oo, it's so good!), Money Talks. Markets
-
People who bitch about fox news are invariably the dumbest and most misinformed people you will talk to on any given day.
I have kids, even if I could control what was on TV I wouldn't be able to hear it. All my news comes from the Pit, twitter and my Co-workers.
-
So what would that be Injun? Oh and if you think I watch Fox News all the time you would be wrong, I watch maybe a grand total of 30 minutes a week, just like I watch about 30 mins a week of CNN a week and about 15 or 20 mins of MSNBC a week.
But yes, please explain Injun. There is no doubt it's going to be absolutely fascinating.
is your 30 minutes a week worth a brag thread?
-
I guess you fooled me.
Im sure one has other sources to make one so ignorant and full of hate.
Red State? Drudge?

k-s-u wildcats sounds like a great guy
-
It's weird how badly the left desires a police state
-
But really though, nobody but old people care about cable news anymore.
-
Like this thread would have been pretty pertinent in 2002.
-
But really though, nobody but old people care about cable news anymore.
or network news
-
Then why do so many younger libs constantly bitch about Fox News if no one cares about cable news besides old people?
I mean its still kinda funny to make fun of. But so is the left. And I get fox news. I get why it exists and who they are catering to and why its all so ridiculous. If you can't understand why partisan news exists and be ok with it you might be kind of an idiot.
-
But really though, nobody but old people care about cable news anymore.
or network news
yeah I don't know why I just said cable.
-
Then why do so many younger libs constantly bitch about Fox News if no one cares about cable news besides old people?
I think its the blatant hypocrisy which is propagated by hits viewership. I mean people would care less if they didn't believe in their shtick so much. "Fair and Balanced" when they are the most partisan. Battling against the "mainstream media" when they have the largest viewership. Its the complete lack of perspective which makes fox so disgusting.
-
injun you're gonna have to bring it a little harder than that bro? I mean really, posting about a former CBS investigative journalist who wrote how CBS News sold out, well sold out even more than they usually sell out . . . is hate, and ignorance?
Alex Jones? Where did Alex Jones come into this lib?
Damn you guys are reaching.
On the flip side you've got bastions of left leaning cheerleaders in the media who are talking about how this administration is the worst they've ever dealt with.
Sad
Why bring this all up? I don't see a lot of things around here that you bring up about the left.
Not too many have really cheerleaded anything from cable and network news, and nobody has really gone out of their way to defend lousy democratic political opportunists.
FOX is lousy, why give them props?

I don't know about Fox News as a whole, and would even agree that Sean Hannity is noxious - but the O'Reilly Factor and Fox News Sunday are both excellent. Their guests, commentators, and analysis are all generally superior to the other news networks. Bill O'Reilly, Chris Wallace, Brit Hume, and Ed Henry are some of the best in the business.
I'm starting to notice Fox News seems to be the channel of choice in a lot of places - gyms, restaurants, and other public places where I would typically think the business would be worried about offending the the libs. I'm seeing Fox News starting to supplant CNN at airports, which is pretty amazing. Maybe some airports switched over because CNN had a 2 month marathon devoted to the missing Mayalsian Air jet.
FWIW, I never see MSNBC on in public places. One of my last cable providers didn't even carry it except for an extra fee. They are circling the drain.

never discount KSUW being the guy to bitch at every bar, restaurant, or airport to some lowly attendant, waiter, or janitor about liberal controlling the mainstream media and how the TV should be changed to foxnews.

Uh oh - Rachel Maddow's got some 'splaining to do! Stuart Varney was actually debunking the notion that low gas prices hurt the economy, but Rachel dishonestly used a screen shot of the caption to paint him and Fox News as hypocrites. You've been misled, Taters. Sorry.

Kick her ass ksuw
-
Is that androgynous thing still on television? She's completely irrelevant from what I've gathered. It's okay to shill as long as you periodically exercise some levity and principle on occasion (eg, oreilly, limbaugh, that one guy from cnn). It's difficult to continually roll with incoherent, incongruent and inconsistent positions when everything you say is documented on television.
-
Left mocking Fox, right mocking MSNBC, moderates mocking the left and right. Everyone gets something.
-
Maddow and Stewart basically have (had?) the same show. It's cute.

Why is that "off-the-rails?" I make Kool-Aid all the time and I'm whiter and much richer that you will ever dream to be?

I had no idea that koolaid was a black stereotype. MIR, can you give us a list of other black stereotypes we might not be aware of so as to avoid these awkward misunderstandings?
Update: for what it's worth, it sounds like he asked the question because Harris mentioned that her cobbler is a traditional summer recipe, but she serves it at Thanksgiving. Still a weird/dumb question, but consider the context of the show. Not seeing anything overtly or implicitly racist here, but my racedar is not nearly as well tuned as MIR's.

I always thought her eyes were set a little too far apart. I hope that's not a racist stereotype.
-
Ppl that don't know bout the Kool aid stereotype are pretty out of touch or pretty old, imo.
I mean, either that or you spent life fully cocooned in a society that is/was completely homogeneous.
-
Very curt schilling'y
-
That's pretty shitty.
Not quite as awkward/bizarre as the wolf/Carson "real black president" thing, tho

They don't see race, obviously.
-
Living a fair and balance life probably means not recognizing stereotypes of any kind and simply judging each man(def not women, tho. Lol...women) on his own merit.
-
Quite noble
-
In this case, it's the growing up in homogenous society.
-
I legitimately didn't know people disliked Jewish people until I got to college because I didn't know any growing up. I still have trouble understanding why they are discriminated against.
-
So are you guys claiming this guy was racially stereotyping, or just that he shoulda known that you can't ask a black person that because of the stereotype?
Those are two different things and I'm just curious to know which sin was committed.
-
He was stereo typing, and he thought that was cool, humorous to ask probably because he's around bigots 247

LOL, yeah I made it up. I secretly write for raw story, huffington post, mediaite, prnewser, media matters for america, etc. I'm not sure why lying about what stereotypes you supposedly know and don't know and attacking me for providing a link is a sufficient defense here?
Update: Apparently it's normal for some people to think about kool aid as a summer drink for adults  yeah okay
I wonder why ptolemy and KSUW's first reaction was defensiveness, I thought the clip was hilarious.

No it really seems like he wasn't stereotyping. He's a dumbass morning show host who, like all dumbass morning show hosts, specializes in stupid innocuous blather. That's the whole show.
So when it was mentioned that Faulkner serves this traditional summer dish for Thanksgiving, he asked if she also served another summertime staple at Thanksgiving - KoolAid. He even said "makes me think of summer."
So if he's guilty of anything, it appears to be that he should have known that koolaid is some obscure black stereotype (I still think this is bizarre) and not knowing that you just shouldn't say that to a black person lest you look like you're stereotyping.
This reminds of that idiotic eenie meenie money mo crap on Southwest a few years ago. That stewardess wasn't being racist and neither was this guy. You guys are embarrassing.
This is just another libtard racial grievance mongering freak out over nothing.

You're right mir, ksuw and company are very defensive
