Title: Sad and a hearty LOL . . .
Post by: sonofdaxjones on October 13, 2013, 08:31:38 AM
at anyone going off on the hit on Daily (don't want to see anyone get hurt).

The shoulder hit first, yeah the Baylor guy had his head down a little, but the initial contact was with the shoulder.   The rule clearly indicates targeting with the crown of the helmet.

In addition, a defender trying to pursue a ball carrier is NOT a "defenseless player".  He is not going down, he has not "surrendered" on the play, he wasn't some QB standing back in the pocket looking down field after throwing a pass, Daily wasn't some guy trailing 10 yards behind the play and was sought out to target.

That's one of 2 ways to draw the penalty.

The targeting rule is as follows:

• No player shall target and initiate contact vs. opponent with the crown of his helmet.

• No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent.

No and I agree, SAMs getting slammed after the play was over was bullshit and all I had was the south video board to see the pick at the end but we all thought it should at the least be reviewed. Refs have been bad all the way around this year and we have an extra one now so it's not really excusable

Speaking of boos, I'm fine with people having a negative opinion on Waters, but booing him when he takes the field to start the game is poor. JMHO.

I didn't hear booing either but there was a healthy amount of heckling Snyder happening every single time Waters came in.

i'm sorry but it was a clean hit. it's getting to a point where football players can't even make a good hard hit on someone. idk how many times i've seen a safety this year pull up a little and not go for the big hit and the pass is completed. defenses really are at a disadvantage in today's game.

Hit was dirty under the rules, its a shame the refs missed such an obvious call. At min it should have been 15.  Gif shows what could be ejectable targeting.

I didn't think it was a malicious or dirty hit, just a function of how the play ended up happening, was way to bang bang for it to be malicious. That being said by the rules it was targeting, and I don't think there was much up for debate until the refs didn't call it.

Leading with the crown of the helmet, targeting the head, or targeting a defenseless player like a QB in the pocket, a trailer etc. etc.  Are perfectly justifiable reasons for flags, ejections, suspensions etc. etc.

But when I see tha play, I see a lead with a shoulder on a defender trying to make a play on a ball carrier.   Just because a guy's head gets snapped back because he didn't have his head on a swivel like he should have, does not make it a dirty hit.

His head snapped back because the blocker launched himself into him and hit him directly on the head with his shoulder pad. It was clearly targeting, which is why the player is facing a suspension.

Daily was not in a full upright position, how do you even avoid hitting the guy in the head when you're leading with the shoulder pad.  It's out of control all over the game now, I saw multiple calls on guys for "targeting" over the weekend, when they clearly lead with the shoulder pad.

Why does no one appreciate the good ol' get up under the shoulder pads and launch the guy a thousand feet anymore?  It's not that hard to aim for the largest part of the body is it?

From what I've seen he bent his knees and his feet never left the ground at all on initial contact.  It's almost impossible to hit a guy at that angle leadinng with the shoulder pads with your feet already off the ground.  The Baylor players hips were square, his feet appear to be planted on the grond and the impact point was his shoulder pads.

1. If it was a dirty hit like the conference deemed, why was he suspended for only a half?

2. How in the hell did the OSU guy who threw the punch last week not get suspended?

The Big 12 Conference seems to give punishments out by wheel spin, random draw, or mad libs.

I thought the half game suspension was all the flag was supposed to entail. It's not like they can go back and retroactively suspend him for the remainder of the K-State game. It's possible the punch wasn't brought to the Big 12 for review. :dunno:

I wish waters would learn how to throw.

I wish Sams would learn how to throw.

Let's play "Guess the QB!"

QB A: 68.8% completion percentage, 8.18 YPA, Lng of 67, 132.9 rating
QB B: 62.3% completion percentage, 8.49 YPA, Lng of 56, 136.3 rating

Looks like these QBs have pretty similar results throwing the ball.

The only difference is that one of them has an adjusted QBR that is 50.6 points higher, and also averages 6.1 YPC. And one of these QBs has been achieving these stats against Big XII defenses, while the other QB padded his stats against NDSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, and UMASS.

Is there a microphone-dropping emoticon that I can use in PCP's face here? I can't find it, TIA.

Those suspensions are intended to be 2 half suspensions, he's getting one. There is no reason why, if he was ruled to be violating the targeting rule, he shouldn't be sitting two halves. I didn't think it was targeting but if they are ruling it that way that officiating crew should be reprimanded for not properly administering a point of emphasis.

NK is right.  The guy launched and it should have been flagged during the game.

Not sure why this is debatable.  The same block could have been effectuated flag football technique. Instead the guy threw his entire body at Daily's jugular.
