Baylor is rough ridin' baiting us into checking into crap and then Baylor checks out on defense. It's rough ridin' amazing. Twice, they baited us into checking into short side options. I mean, this rough ridin' staff is rough ridin' awful.
-
:whistle1:
-
Yeah. They can't.stop sams running so let's have a TE throwback. Think about how cool it would be if we would just line up and run a goddamn play.
-
Sean has had a spectacular day
-
Catzacker thread.
-
4 minutes to go....come out throwing. Nice job staff. rough ridin' idiots.
-
If we kick field goals on 4th down in the first half in this game and against NDSU instead of trying to convert with Waters, we win both games.
-
This year has turned into rough ridin' practice for next year. I'm convinced the team and the staff don't give two shits about any game this season.
-
Meh. Coaching was good and bad.
-
You have to call a pass play at some point. My biggest complaint is the QB switches within drives, for like 1 play.
-
I wouldn't have a problem with constantly switching qb's within drives if one wasn't clearly superior.
-

Yep

Meh. Coaching was good and bad.
it was awful at critical situations. and again, we waste series with Jake. if we don't want Daniel to take as many hits, then we should probably run Hubert's slow ass more.
And we're probably going to need to figure out something more to check to than a slot WR out route from the far hash because SAms is going to get picked 6 pretty rough ridin' soon.
the only part of the coaching that was good was the amount of times sams ran the ball. that's it. oh, yippie, we blocked a rough ridin' punt. meanwhile, we're giving up return yardage by letting rough ridin' retards return the ball. thank rough ridin' god burns finally got the hook.
it was awful because this rough ridin' staff has made the same mistakes it has since Aug 30. Even when faced with similar circumstances, they still eff up and so does the team.

It's hard to blame the coaching for the guys returning the ball when the 2 good returners that they have actually been coaching to return kicks all year are not playing.

no it's not. it's really easy actually. when who you have doesn't do their job you find someone that does the job. it's really that simple. they had burns out there for I think the entire 1st half and he sucks crap. Hubert is rough ridin' worthless as a returner too. Stephen Johnson actually looked like he knew that as a kick returner you're supposed to try to run fast with the ball, so that was a positive step in the right direction. YIPPIE coaching staff.

this is where i'm at.

I think the staff started the year poorly, but it's slowly figuring this team and what they have to work with out. I also take into consideration that we don't have 2 of our 3 best offensive playmakers and still developing some nice game plans.
I'll concede Johnson not getting a shot at KO returns sooner.
-
They keep making the same mistakes they did the week before.
From NDSU to ULL, where they refused to put Daniel in after he just mushed the opposing teams' faces on the series before.
From OSU to Baylor, where they have 3-4 minutes to go in the game and they drop Daniel back to pass even though he had been shoving it up their ass the entire game.
And the UT game was just an unmitigated disaster in and of itself.
And it's pretty damn obvious that it should have been Sams from the start.
eff, I don't have the goals in front of me but I'm pretty sure one of them is Improve.
They need to take these two weeks and figure out how to run this offense with Sams. Not bullshit around with plays that Jake can run. And if they don't, then they still haven't improved/learned.
-
For how bad our secondary is I think the coaching staff did an amazing job holding Baylor to 35 points. I guess we'll see how good that offense is as the season progresses, but I thought WVU's defense was better than ours and they got absolutely manhandled by that offense.

I hope Miles plays the rest of the year. He was actually aggressive. I don't give a crap that he got beat - he actually broke on balls and looked like with some PT he might be able to actually make a play on the ball. Roberts still looks slow as crap and scared.
-
I agree w/ everything catzacker says, even all of the "f" words.....I just hope I don't leave my laptop open in this thread and my kidos read it, that would be embarrassing.........
THe coaching staff sucks ass.....plain and simple....
2 games back to back, we get the ball w/ about 4 minutes to go, Sams has been running up everyones anas, and they come out throwing thefreaking ball? Who comes us w/ that crap? Seriously, all the "minds" who think that crap up make a combined 5..6....7 million a year to eff that up? Maybe, someone, should for once say, hey Sams, don't do anything stupid, like throw some stupid pick, cause we have a chance here before he comes onto the field? Just a suggestion...
The "check w/ me" crap is a joke.....I would love to be a d coordinator against the cats....I would fuke w/ them all game long, fake blitzes from all angles, just so the QB can panic and change into an awesome option to the short side of the field (that play is always full of awesomeness)...
You combine dumb ass coaches, w/ dumb ass players (EVAns, you sucked today) and slllloooooowwwwww players, you get what we get!
-
Honest question...are Dana Dimel/Dell Miller Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)?
-

You forgot OSU.

Folks the combination of Dana Dimel, LHC Bill Snyder and now Del Miller were a model of offensive mediocrity the first time around. Why should anyone be the least bit surprised?
The only time a LHC Bill Snyder run offense has prospered since 1998 is when they had a clear dual threat starter at QB (some might argue that Beasley wasn't a dual threat, but he could run pretty well when needed).
In addition, yesterday was a comedy in time and time out management. But you can't have that discussion with the vast majority of K-State fans because they froth at the mouth and scream, "That's the system, that's the way it's always been and always will be, it's the SYSTEM"!!
As far as I am concerned the offense and special teams is the reason we are not 3 and 0 in conference. The defense outside of just a few plays has been more than adequate and IMO they are playing above expectations. They held Baylor to half their normal point total, to half their normal yardage (yeah I know Baylor dropped some balls and clown suited us several times).
Special teams is pretty much a zero sum game right now. Yeah, they make a nice play here and there, the punter himself does a pretty good job. But kick offs are still a field position disaster.

This coaching staff has done a 100% garbage job until the point they keep Waters on the sidelines for an entire game.

Okay.

In all honesty the best K-State offense occurred when Ron Hudson was the Offensive Coordinator, Dimel was at Wyoming and then Houston pretending he was a head coach, Miller was wrecking the program and secretaries at Southwest Missouri State.
-
Can somebody explain to me why this Peterson guy is kicking off for us instead of Cantele when he can't seem to get the ball to land past the 20 yard line?

Two weeks. And still. So awful.
-
Might as well bump this thread every week.

This is incredible

Sams plays the majority of the snaps against Okie St. & Baylor, & we are in the game for the whole game. Waters plays & KSU's offense looks like crap & KSU is loosing.
Why is this so rough ridin' hard for the coaches?
-
I enjoy how waters is allowed to suck but given chance after chance. Sams has a bad series and he sits the bench. Eat a bag of dicks, bill.
-
It's like someone is trying to get fired
-
So yeah, what I said about this team being more like 2001 than 2004...
-
Zacker, everyone knows this, stop rough ridin' bringing it up. We know.
-
Something very very strange, and very very wrong is going on.
-
How does this happen twice? Like it is so stupid. Win the conference and then suck something awful. Our program is crap. Our roster is crap. Our recruiting is crap. There are no available fixes. There is no solution. We are done unt il we luck out and hire a good coach. eff bill for doing this...TWICE. Calm the waters must mean sucking so bad the school has to fire its only good coach I has had.
-
Think about if you got a do-over on the worst mistake you made in your career. Like the mistake than buried your career. You get that second chance and you eff it up in the exact same way you did the first time. You learned nothing. Made the exact sam mistakes at the exact same times.
-
One play
-
We are just an awful program. Sams sucks. eff it I do not care who plays qb anymore. Both are crap. I want bill gone.

lol at Catzacker resuming his meltdown two weeks later during a 35-12 win... :ridinghorse:

Hfbiq guys weigh in here. Chris Sims basically called our staff 'tards all 2nd half. Continually running Sams against 8 in the box, where we were outnumbered up front. Seemed like he was right.
What's the consensus? Miller drunk?
-
Our blocking sucks when sams was in because they know what bill is planning due to our racist color coated offense

Everyone we play, when Sams is in the game, puts as many in the box as they can, today was no different. I think WVU's defensive line is solid, they are bad other places on defense. Last year we only had 146 yards rushing and less than 4 yards a carry, Klein was just ridiculous throwing (333 yards) and we had no turnovers.

Gronk is probably the worst blocker on the team. And that includes our wr's and te's (who are unbelievably bad blockers).
-
Yeah, gronk rough ridin' sucks. Bad.

it's so strange how he can't even get in someone's way.

great game by the staff. i remember telling seven at halftime, the staff's plan is perfect, just give it time.

So how did Sams run it against OSU and BU? WVU just that much better up front? Or we just that bad at adjusting?

I think WVU was pretty good up front and had a good plan, plus we didn't execute our blocking schemes nearly as well as those 2 games. Fortunately we were (finally) able to take advantage of WVU's secondary, just like Klein did last year.
-
WVU is pretty decent against the run, and Bill seems to be in this weird zone where he doesn't pay attention to what the other defense is doing at all. Even in the second half where we rolled, he still felt the need to smash Sams into the line even when #life was tossing the ball around the field with ease.
-
If a team has 8 in the box sams is supposed to check out. He wasn't and he didn't play much down the stretch.
-

Maybe don't rely on a kid who loves to run to check out of runs. They could just call more pass plays. WVU is good against the run and horrible against the pass. Sams should have checked out some of those plays, but the coaches also shouldn't have called those plays to begin with.
-
There's absolutely no doubt that Bill doesn't care what the other team is good at stopping and if the QB doesn't check out and use the "system" than this offense is going to struggle. If they don't check out than Bill-Del-Dana are going to keep trying to stuff that square peg into the round thing over and over. They really are stubbornly woeful at times.
LOL @ Sams being "woah, I need to check out of this" with 5 on the play clock.
-
Game theory
-
The offensive staff is unspeakably horrific. I made the decision in the first half that I was done getting angry at Jake. The coaches do such a poor job putting the QBs and the entire offense in a position where they can be successful. I watched as we were struggling to do anything with the ball as WVU ran a creative offense for their garbage qb. How great would Daniel Sams be on that bootleg they kept running for Trickett? Waters shouldn't have fumbled because he shouldn't have been in that position. We have no creativity with play calling at all, and I'm not referring to trick plays I'd be happier if we went beyond page 3 of the playbook.
Both of quarterbacks are much better than they played and it is 95% the fault of the coaches. The offense played well the last 20 minutes despite the play callers.

This all is a product of having a 2 QB system.
There isn't enough time to truly implement completely different packages for each quarterback, there are only subtle tweaks to the package to fit each QBs strength. Frankly, it would be tough for the other 10 guys to have to deal with two different packages as well because it would be too much to learn. So there is one game plan and because you have two guys who have different skill sets you have to limit it with a few wrinkles for each quarterback.
For example, its clear they don't completely trust Sams on zone read plays and the majority of zone reads (since the Texas game) come when Waters is on the field. They have opened up speed option lately to Sams, but its clear the major running game they trust Sams with is power/lead and that's what he's going to run the majority of the time.
In the passing game, Sams is being used in the short to intermediate range, but very few deeper passes. He's just shown an inability to make those reads correctly. But Waters is getting better at those throws and if anything he's shown the short passing game (see the number of high throws he has) is what he struggles with most.
Then a feature play this year, especially yesterday and against OSU, is the quarterback read/seam pass option play. Most of Sextons middle routes were option passes of quarterback lead and several times those turned into runs. I like that we've found a way to run this seam/option to someone other than the TE or Gronk, but its still limited.
Truly the only way the playbook can be expanded is to pick one quarterback and completely build the offense around him, but I don't think that's going to happen. Snyder is going to insist that both have "earned the right to play" and he's going to play both. Hopefully they can find a way to make it (eventually) work like they did yesterday, but with 2 QBs there are going to be stretches where the offense can't get any rhythm. However, I've resigned myself that this is going to be the way it is this year, I'm just going to vent about it on twitter once and a while and move on I guess.
-
Snyder is going to insist that both have "earned the right to play" and he's going to play both.
All analysts and football IQ types seem to agree that we'd better off if he arbitrarily picked ONE of them and just stuck with him.
What explanation exists as to why Bill won't do that? Can it be that he made promises to each of them that refuses to break? I mean, many of us have dreamed/hoped/prayed for Bill to make crazy ass recruiting promises to land quarterbacks....did Bill finally actually do that, and this is the implication of Bill doing that....that, being Bill, he actually tries to keep his word???? It's kinda nuts, isn't it?

I think it's similar to 2001. He sees things in both that he likes and he stubbornly thinks he can make playing both work. I don't think he made any promises, is more a weird combination of bill's ego and loyalty/liking each quarterback.
-
BUT, if Bill were to make promises, he'd handle it exactly like this, I bet.
-
BUT, if Bill were to make promises, he'd handle it exactly like this, I bet.
IMHO this just shows Bill is human. He has guys he likes and plays them. See Walker and Roberts too.

I can't do this two yrs. This has been a frustrating season. Do not want it again.

I've given up on him just picking one although that seems like the easiest solution. I would like him to use both of them better and I don't think that's too much to ask. Why does he only let Jake throw the ball on third and long? Why when Jake and Daniel run the ball is it the same 3 plays over and over? I'm not asking for two different packages I'm asking for a variety of plays with what we already have. How many times are we going to throw that running and dump to the TE pass? What happened to screens and the aforementioned bootleg, both would work great against these aggressive 8 and 9 man fronts.

I can't do this two yrs. This has been a frustrating season. Do not want it again.
Yes, something has to change, whether it's players or coaches. That win was less enjoyable because of how both players are mismanaged.

All due respect your points here are negated by what Texas did with Chance Mock and VY for two years. I will listen to the argument that:
1) we don't have the depth of talent to turn over 7-8 new players for a second system like UT did for Young's package
2) our offensive coaches are not imaginative, flexible, or smart enough to do something like that
3) our backs and receivers are not talented enough or not smart enough to do something like that
But go back and look at what UT did. They had an almost entirely new O-line come in to the game, most times they used a different RB to pair with VY. And they subbed series to series. It is the closest comparison we've seen in terms of potential. I'm not saying we are Texas or Sams=VY. I am saying that for a number of reasons we can all agree that neither QB is seeing their full potential realized. I am just nudging us to look a little more closely at a blueprint that was successful in the recent past.

Going into the game I was pissed, entirely, at the coaches. But after/during this game, I realize that both of them are just not what they should or not what I thought they would be. Coaches suck at putting sucky players into position and the players suck when they get put into positions. I mean, yeah, don't run Waters or whatever, but JFC how long has he played QB and been hit? He can't rough ridin' hold onto the ball? He can't rough ridin' take a goddamn snap? QB's don't take snaps? Same with Sams. It's one rough ridin' thing after the other and I can't blame the coaches (entirely) because it doesn't matter what play gets called, those two dumbfucks find a way to eff it up. It's unwatchable. I blame the last 20 minutes on WVU sucking crap. In short - they all rough ridin' suck at their jobs.

I think that example is a talent issue more than anything.
And Vince Young is a just whole different category. When Young was in the game Texas ran about 2 formations and 5 plays, even in the national title game.

Favre is getting calls, Garcia is calling. VY was a slightly better Tebow with an elite running back in the NFL.

I'd put Newton and VY in the same ballpark. Very few single players can elevate a team to greatness like those two did. Bishop almost did for us.

I could listen to the argument that Cam Newton had one of the best seasons in cfb history but I can't award greatest CFB of all time to someone who only played one season. I don't even think he's the best football player to come out of Auburn.

As long as you can see the flaw in saying that player with the greatest season can't be the greatest player because he left to be the #1 pick.
Also its worth noting that before JFF last year, Cam had the greatest statistical season in the history of college football. I couldn't imagine the numbers Cam would have racked up if he played that A&M offense.

I prefer to focus on what a player did do, as opposed to speculate on what they might have done. There are players as talented as Cam Newton who did more for their school than Cam did for Auburn. And to be clear I certainly don't fault him for leaving early. Perhaps if he had stayed he would have ended up being the undisputed best college football player ever, or maybe he would've got hurt.
Also Cam had the greatest statistical season for a quarterback. Hard to compare Cam's statistics to say Deion Sanders 14 int's in 1998.

He's only got three pages; anyone who's watched Snyder's teams knows his got a set number of plays that he runs 90% of the time.

IMO Herschel Walker is the best player in cfb history, here's why. No player meant more to their team in the time they were there than he did. Georgia went 33-3 in the three years he was there including one national championship and three SEC championships. In the three years before Herschel Walker Georgia went 20-13 and the three years after Herschel Walker left they went 24-8. He was a three time all-american and finished in the top three in the Heisman all three years he was at Georgia.
Of course this is debatable and arguments could be made for other players, but not Cam, and not because he wasn't great because he was. Only because he wasn't there long enough to do enough to warrant including him in this discussion. Again, imo.

Wondering how Cam would have done had nothing to do with my argument that he is the greatest player, its not like that was the best offense in the history of football, if I wanted to do that I would have used 80's Houston or today's Oregon. I said that to illustrate that JFF wouldn't have put up Cam's numbers is he had to run Auburn's offense.
Your first reason as to why Herschel Walker is the greatest player is hilarious simply because you minimized Cam. Are you aware what Auburn was before he was there and after he was gone?

Why is this hilarious? It's a fact that Herschel Walker was the reason behind Georgia's success. Also I didn't minimize Cam, I maximized Herschel because he did it for more than one year.

That's not what you implied at all. You said that to illustrate that Cam could have done even better in A&M's offense

Shitty and shitty. Yep, Cam was great. Probably a top five season among any cfb player ever. I'm looking at the entire body of work, not just one season which is probably why you and I don't see eye to eye on this subject. Go Cats.

Yes, our inability to keep contain on the quarterback was baffling at times. It was corrected in the 2nd half for the most part.
-
Chris Sims basically called our staff 'tards all 2nd half. Continually running Sams against 8 in the box, where we were outnumbered up front. Seemed like he was right.
Actually, I just rewatched this part.
He correctly counted 7 defenders in the box. Then he said "K-State has 5 lineman and a tightend so they don't have enough", but he is wrong. We also had a back, which gives us 7 to block their 7. Then he repeats it and says we were outnumbered, but the sole reason WVU blew up the play was because they defeated two blocks. WVU was just teeing off up front to stop the run, which eventually opened up the passing game.
My conclusion is that Sims is a moron and doesn't really understand the benefit of the "extra blocker" that the quarterback running game provides.

Is my point that we are showing a lack of creativity and variety with the qb run game valid? I also feel like its time to get them on the field at the same time and get #life the ball in space.

Yes, I think there is more we can do in the QB run game and definitely agree on both on the field with #life getting the ball in space.
Chris Sims' point about numbers in the running game is still stupid though because he doesn't know how to count.

So back in the day, when I was a badass member of the POWL, I always was front row right at the 50 behind the opposing teams bench (this was before Obama moved the band to the 25 or whatever). I always always always made it my goal to get under the skin of either the quarterback, or a star player on the opposing team. My 2 most successful hecklings were Chris Sims in 2002 and Jeremy Bloom in 2003. Sims I just kept yelling "Major was better, you're not half the player Major was, your father is awful at TV, etc etc." He was looking at me constantly, making eye contact, just nodding and stuff. I really felt like I helped the team that day. I was not just cheering on the cats, but distracting the starting quarterback whenever we were on offense. Then he threw that long pass setting up the go ahead field goal. He looked right at me when he walked off the field after that.
Point of the story:
1. I'm awesome
2. Sims is a tool
3. If I wasn't so awesome we probably lose like 27-14 instead of 17-14 that day. Guys it wasn't our day.

As I've watched the replay on Fox Sports a few points about the quarterback run game issues.
Defensive fronts in college football always have gap responsibilities, but there are different ways you can play technique. Many defensive fronts are "readers" meaning their goal isn't necessarily to just get penetration into their gap, but they are taught to strike the offensive lineman/blocker, read the block, and then fight against it. Other styles are just taught to penetrate their gap. Or another variation is to have the defensive front slant from the gap they usually would be responsible for to a gap adjacent, and this usually ends up with a front getting more penetration.
In any case, it looked to me like WVU's defensive strategy against our running game was to penetrate gaps much more than it was to read blocks. This worked really well against the quarterback run game we used well against Baylor which was delay/counter quarterback runs. Sams usually didn't run to the same side that Gronk lined up on, but rather he would wait, let Gronk lead block opposite and often we also pulled a backside uncovered offensive lineman for a power look. The problem against a penetrating defense is that these delay/counter/power runs take a while to develop and when defenses get penetration they are able to defeat these plays, essentially stopping Sams before he could get started.
When teams do this you have to have more quick hitting runs, and this is in part while Hubert was successful because we usually ran some sort of lead where he was coming down hill and all the offensive line has to do is seal the penetrating defensive line which allows Hubert to get to the 2nd level of the defense. Granted, a couple times WVU got penetration, but Hubert made the first guy miss and was able to pick up yardage.
There are schemes that we can use in the quarterback running game, namely quicker leads, that we will likely put in for later opponents. It just didn't look like we were quite prepared for WVU to play this style, or we thought we could block their penetrating dfront anyway and we were wrong.
Of course eventually we figured out that we could find the gaps in WVU's cover 2 secondary and we did.

I would have heard what Simms was saying if I wasn't too busy trying to figure out how someone who sounds like a young Lou Holtz got a TV commentary gig.

Tommy Frazier is the best CFB player ever,so you're both wrong
this is my choice :peek:
This was the first name to pop in my head, but Barry Sanders Popped in very shortly after. I can't decide. I lean towards Barry.

I didn't know it was Simms at the time.

guys. barry had over 2600 yds rushing (over 3200 yds total) and 39 td's in 11 games. he had FOUR 300 yd rushing games. he had NINE 3 td games
in the holiday bowl which was not then included in season stats, he had 260 yds and 5 td's. in 3 quarters. he sat the 4th.
best ever.

He's third on my list behind Cam and Darren.

When the back is Gronkowski, there really isn't any benefit to having that extra blocker.

Darren? as in Sproles?
If so, I would have a hard time putting him ahead of Barry and VY. I couldn't agree more with Cam at number 1 tho, he is the perfect CFB QB.

At times he struggles, but he had a great block on the run when Sams fumbled into the endzone.
