I'll be moving that direction in the next month or two. I know gooch thinks the area is pud, but I think it's a fun area. I'll be less than a mile away from The Well and Waldo's pizza. I'll also be close to Brookside. I'm pretty excited you guys. Do you guys like Waldo and what are other cool things in that area?
-
Waldo Crawldo!
-
i like it. there is a lamp store there
-
i love the AMC on ward parkway. leather recliners.
-
Less than a mile away!?! wow!

Taj Mahal is solid Indian food, and they have a Quentins now (I enjoy bread bowl soup).
-
Quinton's didn't let me in on a saturday night about a month ago because they said me and a filly were "visibly intoxicated." now, i know what "too drunk" is and i was not "too drunk." so look out for that, fanning.

Oh man, when I'm super pak'd, I look like crap. :runaway:
-
Waldo Pizza is the only good thing in Waldo. Waldo is like Brookside's toilet.

there were cops sitting out front so that probably had something to do with it. it worked out fine though because instead of meeting up with our group me and the filly just got a cab home :fatty:.
-
Fanning, I like that area. We'll have a brew at my favorite bar, "Flo's Poke a Dot Lounge". It's not in Waldo but close enough.
-
"Flo's Poke a Dot Lounge"
:horrorsurprise:
-
Swagger is fun too, but a bit south of those others. You'll have to change buses. The Max only runs as far south as 75th.
-
Waldo is super elite and relatively close to EuroCatMom (be careful, Fanning)

Cause the difference in rent is night and day and I'll be in a house. I like the extra cash available for all the traveling I do for cat games. Plus, if I ever need to crash somewhere by the plaza, 'Clams is right there.

How much different is the rent? Why do you need a house?

Love Waldo. Love it. A mile is pretty far from Waldo though.

My roommate has a dog and he's a good roommate. My rent is only going to be $337 at this house (after splitting costs w/ my roommate). I mean that's a rough ridin' steal, right? Plaza would be around $600-750, I would assume.

watched the TCU game while eating delicious dinner at the KC location last week. a double whammy dream come true.

I enjoy Waldo as far as nightlife goes. Prolly #2 or #3 for KC bar districts. Seems like a younger crowd than P&L or Plaza, plus you are a cheap trolley ($10/night) ride from the other districts!

They have a downstairs bar/lounge area where they have live jazz on Tuesday and Friday nights and some decent cocktails. Would be a good spot for a laid-back date.
The Well is okay if you want to hang out on their upstairs patio during summer weeknights. Weekends are kind of meh. Lew's is a fun spot if you want to watch drunk people from 1:30-3 am. It's the only place in Waldo that stays open until 3. It also has a decent breakfast sammie that can hit the spot after a night out.
Overall, Waldo is a better place to go if you're wanting a more laid back night or you live close and want to walk or take a cheap cab home.

Waldo is the tops. The absolute tops. Bobby Baker's is my favorite dive bar in KC. And Taj Mahal buffet for lunch? YES PLEASE! Waldo Pizza on Mondays (8.99 large carryout), now we have the Bier Station (ELITE) and don't forget Remedy for classy upscale drinking. But my favorite place in Waldo is The Gaf. Good drinks, good Irish food, chill atmosphere, just the best.
You know what else is great about Waldo? The chains that are there are badass also! Aldi! Chipotle! Planet Sub! Quick Trip!
Fanning this is going to be great. And the cherry on top? CF3 is right down the street.
-
You will find a drunken AppleJack in Waldo an awful lot. The Gaf and Bobby Bakers in particular. :eye:

Got kicked out of Quinton's once because I raised my voice while telling the bartender I'd like to close out my tab. The [redacted] was just standing behind the bar watching girls dance. :dubious:

75th Street Brewery has The. Best. Beer. In. Town...from a locally owned brewpub
They have a mug club where I'm pretty sure you can bring in your own mug and drink from it for less than regular price. Also, since they have amazingly tasty beers, anything that is beer battered - like their fish n chips - is also better than most.
The place has been around forever, and they have live music some nights - not sure which, but the internet knows.

Not sure. I think Kennedy's tanked and they wanted a different brand for the place. Kennedy's didn't have the foodie vibe that Remedy does.

Kennedy's had been going downhill for a while, it was pretty much the underage SM East hangout.
Been to remedy a couple of times and it does have a very foodie vibe. Food is pretty good but expensive, will not go back.

TrustTheDust lives in Waldo, I think.

I plan on really cleaning up on some fillies in this area. My good friend from work (girl) lives in a house with 3 other hotties down the street. A great pipeline to start with.

City Market is great, but Steamboat Arabia is a total bitch and complained about the Buzz Under the Stars concerts there, so they moved to Verizon i think.

Hate to break it to you wacky but there are no more concerts at city market, the beats were breaking stuff at steamboat arabia.

i wonder what would come up if they google "wacky's real name (the one on his lease) + job"

This will end badly. Really, really badly.
Also, Blue Nile, I wouldn't wipe my ass with it, but: :barf:

Also, it's rent controlled so I claimed my KC sport and social side job and got it for super cheap.
Do you think this is the right thing to do?

You dork stores, this will be great. No consequences at all. Both my friends who live in that area make way more than the rent control requirements. We don't always have to over analyze everything on this board. This is a stud move and you all know it.
Willesgirl, you need to be more elaborate on why this will end badly. Also, I'm like 5 blocks away from downtown. I'm not stuck eating in CM, dumbasses. :gocho:

I don't need music. Fresh produce, the quaff, johns big deck, and Harry's. eff you Arabia! :excited:
Welcome to the neighborhood (downtown). Really like City Market and may consider moving there once the streetcar gets going...right now Quality Hill is just too good for short walks to City Market and Crossroads.
HarrysCountryClubPAK?
Yes plz! Should be there sometime in July.
Cranes, where do you live?
Would like to do HarrysCountryClubPAK. They have over 100 different types of single malt scotch there. Many I've not yet tried!

would be all in for a HarrysCountryClubPak. crushed some 750 mL's there straight from the bottle a few weeks ago for happy hour. what was the beer? don't remember.

Oh Wacky, I'm trying to work on my judgmental side. But I don't see this ending well for the following reasons:
1. You live with a girl. (Have you banged her, too? Because that seems like a recipe for disaster. And by recipe, I mean Meryl Streep boiling bunnies.)
2. The girl you're obviously halfway in love with, or were a few months ago, lives downstairs. Directly beneath you. In a rent controlled apartment. This means thin walls and floors. See number one. (Rabbit stew, anyone?)
3. Numbers 1 and 2 will likely make your girlfriend jealous, too. On the relationship front, I don't see this ending well. Best case scenario is a burning sensation when you pee. Worst case scenario is dead rabbits. (Bitches be crazy when jealous. Trust me on this!)
4. Rent controlled apartment. You probably won't get in trouble for fraud or whatever happens when you make stuff up to get a rent-controlled apartment unless or until Girls 1, 2, and 3 get so pissed off about the situation that they turn you in.
I hope I'm wrong. But seriously, if Willes had this living situation, I would probably be sharpening knives in my spare time.
-
I'm living by myself, no girl is living with me. Not worried about fraud, I have friends who have done it for years and they never check.
I understand my friend living below me could be a lil weird and I could see how a drunken night could lead to bad things, but I have faith that I can restrain myself.

@cartierfor3 I need you to keep a lookout on some rental houses in the area. :D We don't want to do the Kansas side yet, because we need a little distance from the fam, and we're not ready to buy yet until she finds a new job she likes. We drove around the area on Sunday. Brookside or Waldo is probably our next stop. I need a backyard for grilling and some space for all of our new stuff.

Make sure you get a fenced in yard for the dog and future lil wackycat08

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe just buy some toy walkie talkies or something.

 If we move to prarie village or lenexa or something, they'll stop by all the time. They don't now downtown and I doubt they would over there.

of all the downtown KCMO neighborhoods, waldo is my favorite, mostly because it's the farthest from prairie village

Yeah, it's great. Been down there 3 years now. All of our friends down there, have moved to the suburbs tho. Pretty sad when your best friends down there now, are your bartenders at the quaff, The majestic, blue line, and the peanut. :frown: We need new friends.
-
There is a house on my block for rent but it looks kinda blah. I'll ask my landlord if he has any coming available, he's one of the better property owners I've dealt with.
FYI the rental market is just as insane as the buy/sell market. It took me a few months to find a place I like, but that also I could get. I had 4 or 5 places snatched out from under me before I could even look at them. Some of the "open house" dates had like 50 people at them. I just got lucky on my place now because I was the first to call him and he said he got 10 calls that day.
Craigslist is basically useless, there is a semi-scam company that lists a bunch of places but none of them are real. It's very frustrating.
-
 Thanks, friend. Had a friend post a rental in waldo off Mcgee street today. We reached out to her. 2 bedroom, 1 bath, but only 755 sq ft. We drove around Sunday and almost found nothing around the area. Looks really hard to get into right now.

If I didn't have a dog, this is probably where I would settle

Time to buy wack, even if it is only for the interest deduction.

:sdeek: Buying has always scared me. My parents lost the only house they ever bought. Obviously I learned from their mistakes with the way I take care of my $. I know it doesn't make sense throwing $ away to renting something tho.

acadadmie lafayette is on 69th street. which is basically the best elementary school in the city. Plus, a ton of Catholic schools, we know Wackster's in-laws would love that

I know that you want space from the in laws now but will that still be the case once you have kids?

Crossroads Academy is lottery but if you live downtown you get automatically put in I think.

I know that you want space from the in laws now but will that still be the case once you have kids?
It's still close enough to drop them off/them pick them up. Mrs. Wacky dad drives up here all the time to help us in mini emergencies. I think he likes to get away from time to time. :D

"Throwing money away renting" is one of the greatest American Lies
-
:surprised:
-
When you buy, you "pay rent" to the governments, the mortgage company, the insurance company, home depot, and maybe your HOA.
-
I bet I'll be selling my condo and back renting in 10 years

I was hoping rusty would kick everyone's ass but puni was a nice surprise

yeah but to move from City Market to Waldo to on the off chance you'll have kids and then to Joco when the kids need to go to school? No thanks.
-
Waldo is only a MAX ride away....Wacky if you want to buy, there are some reasonable condos for sale in QH.
-
He should move off the first floor, that's for sure
-
But seriously if you buy, budget off one income. Don't be a mid 00's American.

Yea sure if you want to rip them out of their school and friendships and make their life a living hell having to meet new people in a strange city.
-
I lived in 5 different states from K-12th grade. It sucked, but it didn't make me socially awkward, because I had to make friends. Mrs Wacky and I do have a possibility of landing in CO if things work out right, that would be ideal for the both of us for awhile. Committing to a house is a bit scary.

My shoes astunk from trout fishing this weekend, so mrs wacky told me to let them air out on the front porch. I said naw, let me throw them in the back just in case. She was like no one is stealing those stinky things. Guess what? Some one stole them when I left for work this morning. :flush: rough ridin' trash Waldo!
-
I would get a judge, set a new pair of shoes outside, and set the blinds so you can see out but they can't see in.
-
Sounds a little extreme, Rage!
-
Animal took them.
-
Did you call the cops to report your stolen shoes?
-
Of course not. Just a dick move.
-
Where did you go trout fishing at, Wacky? Any pics?
-
roaring river near cassville, MO. I'll look through my pics tonight. :)

So your theory is that your fish smelling shoes that were probably looking like complete trash were stolen. Do I understand this correctly?

that WC misplaced them
-
I mean, the shoes were so smelly they had to air out in the outdoors so as to not funkify the house. Yeah kids are stealing those all the time so they can get $60 on the street for them and that turns right around to drug money
-

EXACTLY!!! They probably just take them to the car wash to hose them down.Be on the look out for the monster in waldo wearing something similar to these!

Some of these kids last night were staring into my house at our dog. We're talking like 5 to 6 year olds already planning their next scam on the black market. They were casing the joint.
It was Halloween idiot. Kids were everywhere
-
Mrs Wacky threw them away when she realized Wacky thought they might get stolen
def this

Raccoons must be brazen in Wackyville.

Nothing but classic obfuscation from the resident waldobots.

Oops. That went the wrong way.
-
Mrs. Wacky's car got broken into last night. :(
-
Probably to give back your shoes
-
I wish. They stole her ray bans, watch, and did some damage to the car.
-
My dog was really agitated around 3am last night so I got up to look around but didn't see anyone
-
Our dog is blind and deaf and the size of a squirrel. :frown:
We also have a mouse problem all of a sudden. Landlord who lives in Atlanta and who O worked with in radio, told us just to buy some mouse traps. :dubious:
-
hey wacky, sorry to hear about this misfortune. time to move to the Joco 'burbs, it will be fine.
-
 Thanks friend.
-
You should call her dad, maybe he can handle the situation
-
what kind of car does mrs wacky drive? my guess is an enormous joco mom SUV
-
A black Tahoe.
-
:surprised:
-
new thread idea: post itt and i'll tell you what kind of car you drive
-
Sorry to hear that Wacky. Are their cameras in the parking area? I hope you're able to get it all resolved in short order. No alarm system on that bad boy?
As for the mouse problem, strange time of year for that. I think mouse traps may be your best option unfortunately.
Good luck mocat. If you get one of the last 3 vehicles I've driven I'll be suprised.
-
put it in the garage
-
We don't have one.

It's crazy to me to know now that downtown was/is safer. Kansas, here I come.
-
I've still have had zero problems
-
Welp! Case closed then!

You could probably scare some people off with some motion lights. You could also get a gun, but that only helps if you can actually catch somebody in the act.

Damnit. I wasn't sure if I'd mentioned that here or not. Prelude to Pilot to Civic
-
i have a friend who lives in kansas who had his car broken into. wacky have you thought this through?
-

Just don't go full Edward Norton.
-
Someone broke into Minskys in joco last night, are we thinking they might be, you know, related?
-
Mocat, I just don't think we're elite enough for Missouri. Probably taking our hick asses back to the Kansas side is for the best. My honky ass might be able to run some trails, without being profiled.
-
Make sure your next place has a garage, wacky.

Make sure your next place has a garage, wacky.
Of course. We were just looking for an affordable rental for a year after marriage.
-
waldo/brookside make easy pickings for our friends from the east side
-
Too bad there aren't crime statistics we can reference to make good decisions.
-
No way in hell mocat guesses what my whip is.
-
True story: Garmin once had a crime avoidance feature requirement in their Nuvi but it was scrapped because they were afraid of backlash.

Xocolate drives a black Chevy Cobalt.

Sorry to hear wacky. Joco should solve all your problems.

I drive by that place everyday on the way home from work. It's a house on the corner by an apartment complex.
-
Yellow one? I looked at it when I was moving but didn't like the back yard
-
There it is. :sdeek:

irl gmail chat from mrs wacky: "why is there a car with a vanity plate reading "DR J KU" just sitting outside our house?"
-
-
I'm going to creep by tonight and throw some old smelly shoes into Dr J's stakeout car (I'm guessing an elantra)
-
 If I know Dr. J like I know I do, he'll be stalking my ass at kickball tonight.
-

Think of it as an investment.

Who, me?

Mocat was trying to slam me by saying I'm poor and can't afford it, emo. Look. At. Him!

I don't think that's what mocat was saying
-
If you think of yourself as a nail, everything looks like a hammer
-
Two things. 1. Stone was bragging about where he lives, not suggesting it. You know this. He elite brags all the time. It's what he does. 2. What does you telling ppl on this board that it's too expensive for me add to the discussion? Especially when you know he wasn't suggesting it for me?
I mean, nail and hammer, ya. But you have a history of side jabs, so I'm sorry if I'm not naive enough to think otherwise with your history of posting.
-
I thought mocat was saying leawood is too expensive (to be worth it) for him. That's just me tho and I have had conversations with him about that general subject. I also agree with his analysis.
-
Uhh oh wacky....not so fast on that move
http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article157315124.html
-
That's why I won't go south of 435 after dark
-
Yikes. Stone has children too. :frown:
-
In high school the itk types always called it Leahood
-
You spend all that $ on a house and yet you're in one of the most unsafe neighborhoods in KC. I don't get it. :(

Like, you get killed for jogging along a trail there.

Just think of all the crimes that go unreported bc HOAs are worried the bad pub will hurt property values. Sad!
-
In high school the itk types always called it Leahood
Every girl I've ever known from leawood has called it this
-
South Leawood is way better than North. Also, that was way too close to Missouri, I'm certain that the robber was a Missourian.
-
South Leawood is definitely better at having no trees and beige mcmanses
-
Incorrect- you pay more than OP for your McManse because they leave a few trees in Leahood

What is up with this yard jockey? WHY DO THE OWNERS OF THIS HOUSE THINK THIS IS OK? This is BEYOND RACIST. It looks like it has been attacked, too (yes, statues depicting black people often get attacked and destroyed).
PS my son asked me to post this because he finds it horribly offensive.
