Title: Literally An Illinois Thread
Post by: mocat on February 04, 2013, 02:54:58 PM
wtf is going on here Bread? I mean 1-6 in their last 7 games, 3-8 in their last 11. Started off 12-0, including dumping Butler by 17, and beating the team by double digits that  L I T E R A L L Y  beat half of the Big 12 in the non-con.

I would like to see a pie chart of blame, and how much is oscar, how much is Groce, how much is players.

wtf is going on here Bread? I mean 1-6 in their last 7 games, 3-8 in their last 11. Started off 12-0, including dumping Butler by 17, and beating the team by double digits that LITERALLY beat half of the Big 12 in the non-con.

I would like to see a pie chart of blame, and how much is oscar, how much is Groce, how much is players.

and how much is UIUC's own fault.

people use half a crutch word all the time too so he had to use the other literally crutch to make sure we knew that seriously we were for real talking about half. the two crutches add out.

ok well, if i said "they beat half the big 12" that sounds like an exaggeration. in this case it's not though. the zags literally beat half of the big 12.

I hate poor grammar as much as Skinny Benny. Using the word "literally" the way it is rough ridin' intended to be used has nothing to do with grammar, but way to ignore the point of the rough ridin' original post. JFC.

Illini people don't care at all.

In other Illini news, we're getting a new logo.  They held a competition where students submit what they've got and everyone votes on the best one.  I like this one:

Title: Re: Literally An Illinois Thread
Post by: OlatheWildcat on February 04, 2013, 05:23:16 PM
This is what I know about Illinois from their message boards and hearing their fans talk:

-They started strong, because they shot really really well, and John Groce was obviously a better coach than #oscar.

-Teams figured out their schtick, big 10 season came and defenses knew how to defend them, then all of a sudden it was #oscar's fault again, can't blame Groce.

-Ok, maybe Groce really sucks too, but he can recruit! (ed. note, same recruiting success as #oscar past 3 seasons).

Then in Wooly's first year at home, lost 76-56.

Sorry internet friends.  Super busy work week, so I missed the thread at the outset.  This IU win doesn't really move me all that much considering the 3-7 conference record.  If they manage to scratch out 5 more wins and make the tourney then I'll be back in.  I don't see it though.  The game was a blast to watch, but my ass is still fearsome raw about how shitty they've been, not just lately but last season too.  Still big night at the Bread household.  Mrs. Bread got back from a business trip today, Mr Bread won a big case and the Illini beat #1.   :excited:

    [...]

“Don’t give in,” Paul said. “Don’t let what outsiders say affect us. I think that’s definitely been in our minds. A lot of people doubted us when we went through that rough stretch. [Groce's] a guy with unbelievable energy. He comes in every day and he gives us the passion to want to compete and get better every day. That’s something you need in a coach.”

The writer (Jon Greenberg, ESPNChicago; never heard of him) of the article that that article cites was really out to slam oscar.  For example:

Quote
It's long since time to give up the ghosts of failures of Illinois teams past.

"It's a whole different staff, whole different team, whole different attitude," Richardson said. "Everything's different. This team is no comparison to last year."

Not quite. It is basically the same team, just with different coaches and no NBA center in Meyers Leonard. But change was good for Illinois.

You can say a lot about oscar's tenure at Illinois that is validly derogatory, but the way those players absolutely gave up and quit on him isn't one of them.  It was rough ridin' pathetic on their part, oscar or no oscar.  They did it again this year and got all bitchy in the press about everybody doubting them.  People tend to doubt you when you're proven quitters.  Imagine that.

It was a white guy dressed up like a traditional native 'merican that did a rough ridin' moronic traditional native 'merican dance.  I hated it personally, not because it was racist, but because it was rough ridin' dumb and an embarrassment every time he did it.  I mean the guy would go through classes on how to do the dance and look like a complete dumbass.  Some rough ridin' dork in a stereotypical indian costume stomping around like a respect?  Good riddance.
