That was such an awesome finish. But wow, could that guy get any more open for the last shot?

Sorry internet friends.  Super busy work week, so I missed the thread at the outset.  This IU win doesn't really move me all that much considering the 3-7 conference record.  If they manage to scratch out 5 more wins and make the tourney then I'll be back in.  I don't see it though.  The game was a blast to watch, but my ass is still fearsome raw about how shitty they've been, not just lately but last season too.  Still big night at the Bread household.  Mrs. Bread got back from a business trip today, Mr Bread won a big case and the Illini beat #1.   :excited:

That was a great job slipping the screen with Indiana's full denial defense on the last play. Didn't look like that was even one of the primary options, but the kid read it and cut to the rim.

“The coaches never gave up on us,” senior guard Brandon Paul said. “They want to see us succeed. They said, we’ve had this rough stretch but gotta fight through it. No one on the team gave up on each other.”

    [...]

“Don’t give in,” Paul said. “Don’t let what outsiders say affect us. I think that’s definitely been in our minds. A lot of people doubted us when we went through that rough stretch. [Groce's] a guy with unbelievable energy. He comes in every day and he gives us the passion to want to compete and get better every day. That’s something you need in a coach.”

    [...]

“It’s a whole different staff, whole different team, whole different attitude,” Richardson said. “Everything’s different. This team is no comparison to last year.”

The writer (Jon Greenberg, ESPNChicago; never heard of him) of the article that that article cites was really out to slam oscar.  For example:

Quote
It's long since time to give up the ghosts of failures of Illinois teams past.

"It's a whole different staff, whole different team, whole different attitude," Richardson said. "Everything's different. This team is no comparison to last year."

Not quite. It is basically the same team, just with different coaches and no NBA center in Meyers Leonard. But change was good for Illinois.

You can say a lot about oscar's tenure at Illinois that is validly derogatory, but the way those players absolutely gave up and quit on him isn't one of them.  It was rough ridin' pathetic on their part, oscar or no oscar.  They did it again this year and got all bitchy in the press about everybody doubting them.  People tend to doubt you when you're proven quitters.  Imagine that.

They yell out "I-L-L" then they yell out "I-N-I."  They spell loudly basically.

How long has Illinois done the spelling thing? I think Missouri may have stolen it from you.

then spell loud and slow, then just yell WILDCATS loudly.

That's not really spelling. It's an acronym.

we spell loudly too, K-S-U, then yell WILDCATS loudly

then spell loud and slow, then just yell WILDCATS loudly.

They also yell GO ILLINI or LET'S GO ILLINI or COME ON ILLINI.  All loudly and with exuberance.
