Yeah... there were four or five douchebag K-State fans a couple rows in front of me, and they literally started screaming and hugging each other after the KU game was officially over.  It was quite a sight to behold, and it reminded me why I consider myself lucky to have been raised a KU fan.  I honestly wanted to stay and watch the K-State/BYU game, but I would have probably been arrested and thrown into an Oklahoma City jail for aggravated assault.

To be fair uk did have the toughest bracket ever in the history of the NCAA tournament. To be ranked #32 out of 300+ teams is still pretty good.

Well, first of all, the '10 Jayhawks aren't KU's best team ever.  Sherron Collins isn't KU's best player ever, and KU is still one of the top 16 teams in the country.  I'm obviously bummed out about KU getting beat in the second round of the tournament, but those players are the ones who are hurting right now.  Like Coach Self said after the game, those players are the ones who created the high expectations.  They're the ones who went out and went 33-2 and convinced everyone that they were the best team in the country.  Obviously they were a bit overrated, and they probably overachieved a little bit this season.  I can't say I'm really that surprised that they lost to Northern Iowa, though.  It's just the nature of the NCAA tournament... sometimes a team is just better on that given night.

Look, rankings don't matter after the tourney starts.
KU in 1988 was a fringe top 25 team. ( 6 seed )
Every single higher seed was upset before KU had to play them. (I.E. All the heavy lifting was done by some other team)
KU got the game of a lifetime from a scrub who was only on the team beacuse his dad was a NBA legend. (Scooter Barry).
Larry Brown out coached roll out the ball and let them play Billy Tubbs in a one game all or nothing final and the rest is history.
KSU was a better team than KU in 1988 and it wasn't that close, but it doesn't really matter because they finished the season better than KSU.

This year KU beat KSU 3 times in a row.
KU had a better team than K-State, and it doesn't matter because no matter how this season ends, KSU had a better season than KU!

For the record Cornell, Northern Iowa, Washington, Butler, Xavier, Purdue, Baylor & K-State all >> than KU this year.

Also loved the poor girl at the bar who bitched at me about how K-State fans are a bunch of dicks, claimed to have gone to K-State, and yet was still sore about how the games turned out.  TOUGH BREAK KIDS!  Next time cheer for your school, not your bandwagon!

Take out the conf W/L's (or just W's for ksu) and uofk was 1-2 and K-State 1-0.

Maybe the B12 is weak...

The "act like you've been there before" has to be one of my favorite ku talking points in the last 48 hours.  Heard it about 50 times, yet no one is quite sure what it means.  It is right up there with "I know you are but what am I" and "takes one to know one".  This is beautiful.

My other favorite talking point is how angry they are that we took an interest in an exciting basketball game that was taking place in front of us.  I guess we're just suppossed to sit on our hands and be perfectly silent.  I would say 90% of the K-State fans in the arena didn't cheer one way or the other until the last 2 minutes.  At that point, all of America was into the game.  Get over yourself BMW and ku fans.

There's something to this.  I screamed like a maniac for and against Old Dominon as they closed the gap against Baylor Saturday.  Wanted Baylor to win for conference pride and all that, but wanted an amazing game more.

Same for ODU-Notre Dame, Texas-Wake, etc. etc.  Hard not to cheer and whatnot in these situations.

Exactly. For most of the game I wasn't cheering one way or the other, maybe even a little pro-KU. But when UNI was still up with under 2 minutes to go, all bets were off. It was too exciting not to root for the underdog.

Great question.  Was dumb founded that every last one of them balled like a man of taste and distinction.  Seriously thought that one might be a man and say something like, "hey, we had a great year but these things just happen."  Didn't happen though.  They all balled like queers.   :bawl: (ftp://:bawl:)

Just a side note; I know we'll have players that cry if we lose or even if we win the whole thing but doubt it will be the whole team..

Yeah Beems if say, in the same regional, you had Kansas and Missouri, and MU had a 1 seed, you can't possibly tell me that you wouldn't be celebrating your ass off if MU lost to a 9th-seeded Akron or Idaho or somebody like that. Every KU fan would.

Is 42 a junkyard fan now?  Welcome bro.

I believe he's coming for grad school.  Meaning his life as a uk fan is over, and he is now one of us.

The way I look at it with my lbbiq, uk wasn't out-played, out-talented, or even out-coached. They simply played like they didn't give a $hit until the end of the game when they realized they very well could be playing their last game. However, they didn't realize that UNI was going to react as calmly to the pressure as they did. If they would have played like they cared for the whole game, they would have put up numbers like Kentucky did against Wake

I strolled the concourse, took a Ford Center survey and checked out the handmade trinkets as the souvenier stand.  :dunno:

The fact that you guys celebrated like it was the national championship after KU lost tells me all I need to know about your inferiority complex.  Thanks for validating yourselves as a bunch of low self-esteem losers.

Were you there?  KSU fans were laughing.....we celebrated after we won.  Big difference.

Yeah... there were four or five douchebag K-State fans a couple rows in front of me, and they literally started screaming and hugging each other after the KU game was officially over.  It was quite a sight to behold, and it reminded me why I consider myself lucky to have been raised a KU fan.  I honestly wanted to stay and watch the K-State/BYU game, but I would have probably been arrested and thrown into an Oklahoma City jail for aggravated assault.

the second half of march is free-time, and so is fball season.

How does it make you feel that your best team ever, with your best player ever, isn't even in the top 16 teams in the country?

Like Coach Self said after the game, those players are the ones who created the high expectations.  They're the ones who went out and went 33-2 and convinced everyone that they were the best team in the country.  Obviously they were a bit overrated, and they probably overachieved a little bit this season.  I can't say I'm really that surprised that they lost to Northern Iowa, though.  It's just the nature of the NCAA tournament... sometimes a team is just better on that given night.
wow self is a class act. not my fault blame the players.

BMW what is your take on all the bawling?  Seemed excessive.

Great question.  Was dumb founded that every last one of them balled like a froggot.

In order to "choke" you have to be highly seeded.  KU's consistent level of success sets them up for these type of games in the tournament.  One would think K-State would realize just how hard it is to win in the NCAA tournament, given that this is your first Sweet Sixteen since 1988, but no, you guys don't have the first clue on how to win with class.

You'd celebrate.  And yes some KSU fans celebrated like them losing=us winning something, which is over the top.  But if we're stereotyping an entire fanbase here, you can go back and bitch about under-seeded teams, boo bad calls, bitch about anytime Kentucky gets mentioned for something (i.e. still being in the tourney), and complaining that the talking heads don't come out and admit your team is perfect.

You come on here and mock KSU losses, and you wouldn't celebrate a Mizzou loss?  You are ridiculously full of crap.

And its good to hear you bitching about us winning without class.  Key words in that: us winning

it's quite obvious to any non-biased fan that ku consistently gets calls during the regular season that they don't get during the tournament. hence the appearance of a "choke". fans will no local affiliation tell me this all the time. those three kstate "wins" ending up hurting ku in the long run. ku players thought they'd get all the calls and when they didn't they went into panic mode. sad really.

You sort of conveniently ignored this.  Also, why is it the entire New Orleans Arena cheered when ku lost?  Could it have had something to do with it being a tremendous (and exciting) upset?  Nah, that would not play well with your carefully constructed alternate reality that K-State fans are all extremely mean and that ku fans all smell very nice.

Delusion.

Settle down, man.  Take a few deep breaths.  Just let go of the hate... it will be okay.  Maybe you guys can try to avoid the sweep next year.

uck, your meltdown went from funny to awkward.

Well you already got this year under your belt.  And your team looks like total garbage for next year so you're off to a great start.

Ben,

Don't live a lie.  You know, I know, we all know, that the vast majority of ku fans want nothing but the worst for K-State and MU.    Tardville can all gather around in a thread and try and collectively explain how they would all cheer for K-State if they're not playing ku . . . but such a thing is applicable to about 2.7% of ku fandom . . . the rest either sit and absolutely seethe over any K-State or MU success, or have nothing but downright outwardly expressed disdain for any K-State or MU success.

I'm not denying that.  I just don't think KU fans would openly celebrate a K-State/Mizzou loss in the same fashion.  There's an inferiority complex factor with the rival fanbases of K-State and Mizzou.

The "inferiority complex" talking is just an excuse for ku fans to cry and act like sore women when they lose.   :bawl:

In reality, neither mu or KSU feels inferior to the worst football program in the conf and a lengendary choke-riffic basketball team.

Pffffffffttttttttt...... now there's some serious denial.  The '08 49-4 combined in football and basketball is still killing you guys.  The fact that you couldn't beat KU once in three tries in your best basketball season since 1988 has got to hurt as well.

Pretty sure any "excessive celebrating" by KSU fans at ku's loss in OKC would be due to having shared a town with ku fans for 3 days.  I kind of hate Sherron for killing that kid and raping that girl, but for the most part my dislike for ku is about their students/alumni/fans and how generally shitty of people they are.  I don't care much about ku sports on its own, but it was rough ridin' hilarious getting to watch another collapse in person and specifically the toll it took on BMW, et al.  Their weekend/Christmas/month/year being ruined right in my face was awesome, and coupled with the subsequent BYU ass-kicking, was the perfect capper to watching bball all day man of taste and distinction.

For the few that actually stayed tuned from Tardville . . . imagine the joy they felt when BYU broke out to the 10-0, and then the white knuckled angst and anger to follow.

Ben, it's the now the response itself, it's what's in the response.   Now please go into Obi-Wan mode to bring it full circle.   Thanks and I'll be following along.

Love the "classy" fan base talking point.  Love it.  Love it from Nebraska in the fall and ku in the winter.  Nothing says "class" like a joe college t-shirt, worshiping a sex offender, and posting racist remarks about Ali Farokhmanesh on the phog.

Tardville is still rubbing in 1998 today, 12 years later.

You can only imagine the levels of  schadenfreude from Tardville right after it actually happened.

The problem with ku folks, particularly the bandwagoners is that they act as though they are entitled to winning basketball games and going to the final four.    Everytime that cauldron of entitlement boils over and then ku fails to meet expectations, ku fans lash out and whine and cry at everything that moves.

It's sad . . . but low self esteem ku fans and ku bandwagoners only bring it on themselves.

The entitlement mentality is pretty typical of the people in that area in all facets of their lives.

First of all, you calling anyone a pussy is hilarious. Second, I'm tired of you acting like us KU fans are some sort of superior breed of human, especially over KSU fans. That line of thinking is just wrongheaded. Does KU have a better overall record in the two major sports? Yeah. Is there more brand recognition and a general sense that KU is the superior school in the national perception? Yes. Do KU fans have a better overall track record of supporting the basketball program? Of course. But to think that one fanbase is better than another because they support a winning team over one that doesn't is the height of stupidity. If you start suggesting that we just "act better" than KSU fans as a whole, I'll laugh in your face. There are just as many bad person KU fans out there as any other fanbase.

Also, you wanna know why I respect KSU fans more than MU fans? Most of them, especially on this board, know they've been kicked in the teeth before in every sport, and goddamn it, when they win, they're gonna celebrate the hell out of it. MU fans think they've earned some sort of winning birthright, much like a number of KU fans, except MU has won NOTHING in anything. I can at least understand the sense of entitlement that KU fans get. MU fans acting like they have a combination of NU's football program and KU's basketball program is hilarious because they've been smacked around just as many times as KSU has. One fanbase recognizes it, one doesn't. Can you really blame the inferiority complex in Manhattan? Your program gets knocked around time and time again, and victory tastes that much sweeter when you finally get it. That's not something that should invite scorn. That's human. Remember the 2005 NU game in football? Don't act like we didn't flaunt the hell out of it in front of the 7-8,000 or so Husker fans that snatched up tickets from "loyal" KU alums as per bi-yearly tradition.

You wanna know another reason why KSU fans hate us so much? We're a milder version of the Texas fanbase when it comes to having bandwagon trash all over the place. Obviously, that's the sign of a winning program, but goddammit bandwagon fans are annoying. I want to see a bucket of slime dropped on every person wearing a UT shirt on campus here because they're making a statement that they're so weak-willed they'd rather support a school that doesn't care about them (or in many cases, doesn't want them ) than the school they attend. Don't act like there aren't a ton of KU fans like that out there as well. I've seen them on the Phog, I've seen them in Kansas, and I've seen them across the country. I don't blame KSU fans one bit for hating those types of people. Then, when the real KU fans act like their crap doesn't stink because they attend a school with a bit more name recognition and more money despite having the exact same academic requirements as KSU? I don't blame Wildcat fans for hating us. We're not all "classy like that." A lot of us are the exact opposite. I realize that the Snob Hill dynamic has been going on for years, but it just gets over the top. Be proud of your school, as like I said there are plenty of reasons to be proud to have attended KU. But don't act like your crap doesn't stink because of it. It's just not true.

You are turning into quite the turncoat brown-nosing pussy.  I wouldn't celebrate after a Mizzou loss... I might sit there and chuckle a little bit, but I wouldn't celebrate like KU had just won a national title.  Maybe you've been in Texas too long to realize that KU fans are different than K-State fans... there's an inferiority complex that comes into play with K-State fans.  Not sure if you've noticed, but KU has been kicking their ass for years now.

I have never indicated that I feel like KU fans are better people.  In fact, I despise about 50% of all KU fans.  My point was that K-State fans react differently to a KU loss than KU fans do when K-State or Mizzou loses.  I don't know if it's necessarily an inferiority complex or what, but that's just the way it is.  Like Dax said, when KU was one of the worst D-1 football programs in football, I always wanted to see K-State lose.  KU fans have had to endure our fair share of sh*t sandwiches as well over the years.  I really don't understand why that's so hard for you to accept, but I guess once you adopt the role of a brown nosing turncoat, it's hard to go back.

i watched the KU/UNI game at a KU sports bar in West LA, about half the people there were KU fans.  the other half were routing for UNI and celebrating their win.  has nothing to do with K-State fans.

Good post 42.  You ssid something very interesting that I agreed with.  KU does have a ton of bandwagoners (especially here in KC) and I do have to admit that comes from many years of being very successful at Bball.  Believe me, I've had to sit around and watch a lot of these games with these type of fans.  No matter what situation I'm in, I always get a kick out of throwing this one out when I've listened to enough KU B.S.  I'll just yell, "In what year did you get a diploma from KU?"  I always know that about 3/4 of the people in the room, bar, restaurant  are going to shut the eff up and get a stupid as look on their face!"  I'll then usually add something like , "Sit the eff down and don't say another word tell you've even set foot on and taken a class at the U of K."  They usually have no way to respond.  I'm always confident that the people cheering in the room for KState pretty much got their degree from there.  It actually takes character and class to cheer for KState.  It's not easy being fan.  Their have been lot's of letdowns and lots of tough time.  That's what makes these time even more enjoyable.  Needless to say I haven't stopped grinning since Saturday and I've gotten very few texts from the KU idiots I normally do.  I'm enjoying the ride.  Go Cats! :ksu:

This was my favorite point.  That's how I feel and I think a lot of the longtime Hawk fans understand that a lot of KSU fans think that way.

But I can understand how it really gets under the skin of KU fans when we cheer for any random team that happens to be playing KU.  They claim that it wasn't K-State that won - but it was.  We may not really hate KU and we may not really *want* bad things to happen to KU - but we *need* bad things to happen to KU.  Just as KU wouldn't have had their little Orange Bowl party if KSU was still pounding them into dirt, this KU team has put a stain on the best KSU BB team since the 50's.  If not for KU, we are Big 12 champs - both regular and postseason.  If not for KU we are ranked in the top two or three and a 1 seed.

There was a big stop sign staring us in the face if we reached Indy.  It's gone.  I'm happy.

O rly?

"KU fans gave him a standing ovation because he was a great player, and we're classy like that.  You might get there someday."

"It was quite a sight to behold, and it reminded me why I consider myself lucky to have been raised a KU fan."

"you guys don't have the first clue on how to win with class."

Give me a break, dude. Even if you didn't directly say "KU fans are better people and better fans than KSU," you sure as hell insinuated it. Oh, and by the way, fans who really know how to act like they've been there before don't go onto an opposing fanbase's message board and tell them how to act like they've been there before. Why do you think I don't talk all that much crap after we win? Because KU has been there before. You and a lot of other KU fans apparently don't seem to get that we don't have to rub every single victory in the faces of our rivals because they speak for themselves. The fact that you get so bothered when KSU and MU fans try to rationalize otherwise--and you HAVE to know that most of that "rationalizing" on this board is just trolling to piss you and other Jayhawks off--tells me that you don't have the confidence to truly act with the supposed "class" you say you have.

Oh, by the way, I'm here because it's a freer atmosphere and there are a lot of funny posters. And they don't have a guy running the board who thinks it necessary to censor references to homosexuality on the site. Just an FYI. Just because I don't always buy the KU party line doesn't mean that I'm not a fan.

I can understand them going nuclear.
