Awful.
Reverse? LOL.
-
Typical snyder, completely shits the bed the biggest moments.
-
I don't think there are any plays that would have saved the players from getting their asses kicked by Baylor's players.
-
We got down early and couldn't run the ball, and then we went to the air late in the first half. It worked and got us a couple quick scores, so I think Bill decided that's what we needed to keep doing instead of mixing in the run. After Baylor scored again in the second half, it was absolutely desperate, out of character play-calling. But I will defend them because I think they knew our defense couldn't stop anything.
-
How many times did Baylor bring the blitz? Would love to see some bigtimey stats with percentages and totals and stuff.
-
So typical. Blame snyder. Players crap the bed. I will same the defensive scheme was not optimal, but we just faiked to execute. The playcalling didn't lose this game. Lack of Zim was a game changer... .

They got key 3rd downs 3 times when we ran the same mlb middle blitz on 3rd and long that's been failing us all year. Each time we showed the blitz, Baylor audibled into a quick slant (which I'm sure they practiced all week, because we've done that same blitz all year in that situation), and we stayed in the blitz. Play calling played a role.
-
I like when we showed blitz with 20 seconds left on the play clock. Florence see's it, even points to the blitzer(s), checks out of the play, we still blitz and get torched on the play.

ultimately yes, it is Bill and the staffs fault for not recruiting better talent, we live on a razors edge when it comes to the depth chart...you can only coach up so many turds
-
Fine. Blame Snyder for lack of recruits. That part is at least somewhat true.
-
it was really wierd. how come we couldn't move the ball against the worst defense in football. _Fan, I saw your tweet last night saying this loss is more on the offense than on the defense.

Also, playing the entire game with two safeties deep really worked well. We played the entire game with 5-6 guys in the box and Baylor ran for more than 300 yards. Good adjustments by the coaches on that one. Also having 2 safeties deep didn't prevent an 80 yard run, so what the eff were they doing back there?
-
We all know Phil Bennett blitzes on just about every down. He did it when we were here and he did it lastnight.
How do you beat it?
Run game and quick passing patterns.
How did that go?
-
Snyder said in post game that they "turned the offense over to Klein in the second half" ...

It was bizarre. I'll have to rewatch, but I think it was one of the worst called offensive games I can ever remember from a Snyder coached team.

My friend and I noticed this as well. I remember watching the Bama v Aggie game and the announcers saying that Bama is one of the few teams in the country that will do a "check with me" with the defense when the offense audibles. We needed to do that last night. We would show blitz with more than 25 seconds on the clock, Baylor would audible, and we would still bring the same people that we showed coming. How easy is that to run plays against? Blitzes are ineffective if you know where it's coming from and have dynamic wideouts that can beat 1 on 1 coverage.
I think our offense was hurt by no Lockett and Sexton and also by our defense just not getting any stops. Also, Baylor had all 11 players within 8 yds of the line of scrimmage on quite a few plays, especially on early downs. You have to take advantage of the 1 on 1 matchups on the outside. This was the first game all year where the opposing defense loaded the box and we weren't able to beat their corners on the outside with any consistency. Not having Lockett out there to stretch the defense hurt us really bad. No depth at WR. Harper is quick, but he doesn't have blazing speed. Same with TripleEffinT.
I fully expect us to come out and demolish Bevo if Lockett is 100%. Especially with 2 weeks for our coaches to pull their heads out of their asses and to break in Barnett at safety. I still haven't heard of a good reason why Barnett started in front of Ferguson, either.

Our guys were getting manhandled at times by Baylor's players & we might have abandoned the QB run game to a certain extent because of Klein's health, but why the hell didn't we at least try to keep pounding it with Hubert in the 2nd and 3rd quarters? Seemed like it worked pretty well early on? :dunno:

When the safeties are within 8 yards of the LOS, you have to throw it. Our passing game was terrible. With Lockett out, we had no gamebreakers on the outside to throw it over their heads with.

Snyder said in post game that they "turned the offense over to Klein in the second half" ...
Every time they showed blitz Klein would change the play to a pass with either fly routes or deep posts then not have time to let our wideouts get open before he gets smacked in the face/brain by a baylor de or lb. Why we did not run some quick routes when they were blitzing every single linebacker is beyond me

He also frantically checked to those plays with 2 seconds on the play clock, giving the line/rbs no time to mentally process what they were supposed to do/who they needed to pick up. The turning point of the game was when Klein started to make these decisions in a panic. We completely wasted at least 2 possessions early in the 3rd by wasting 1st and 2nd down on long, low % pass plays and repeatedly put ourselves in 3rd and long.
-
Should have just ran goal line jumbo sets. Sub in some 2nd string guys to keep them fresh and just start punching baylor in the mouth.
Instead we resorted to throwing the ball with a QB that can't throw.
Good job bill

How did that go?
How/why do we literally not have a screen pass in the playbook anymore? We lived off of that in the past now it's gone the way of the wishbone.
-
I think Dimel and Miller panicked with the playcalling once we got down. We completely abandoned the run which was a huge mistake.
-
We abandoned the run on the second drive.
-
What's this I hear about them "Turning it over to Klein" in the 2nd half.
They let Klein call the plays?
I don't know. :dunno:

First, I think I remember us calling one for Hubert, but I may be wrong. It was probably just terrible blocking and Hubert's route made it look planned.
Second, I think I remember people saying that Bill hates the screen. He called it before because we had the personnel to execute it, but he hated doing it. Not saying we shouldn't have tried it more, but just a reason why we rarely, if ever, see it anymore.
-
its a pretty good tool against a team sending the house on every play, no?
-
Why does he hate it? It was Sproles (and still is) specialty play.
-
I agree with you guys that it probably would have been a good tool. I have no idea why Bill might hate it. He may not hate it and I heard wrong. Just trying to give a background as to why we may not see it anymore, that's all. I just know I've heard a couple of times that he reluctantly called them because they usually worked, but he would have much rather called something else if he would have thought it would have been close to as effective.
-
There's no expolosion to Hubert's running, he's kind of quick and he's got a little jitter, but he's not explosive.
Klein looks slower than usual as well. There's no pop in our backfield anymore.
As others have said, really a pee down the leg effort from the coaching staff. But we've seen this movie before under Snyder. Part of taking the good and the bad.
-
I mean we might as well have tried Sams. Why not.

I lost my crap and knew the game was lost after Pease stone hand those two passes on back to back plays, I knew the game was just eff'ed from that point on.

And it's not like he just dropped the passes. It's like he literally had stones for hands. The ball bounced off of him like he was that inflated Herbie Husker thing they call a mascot up at Nubbtard.

Inflatable is the opposite of stone. :dubious:

We ran a screen to Hubert but we don’t tend to run them at all anymore. Nor do we run the jail break screen. However, I don’t really see that many teams running it either. I don’t know if that’s because of the hybrid nature of defenses now (i.e. the 3-3-5, 4-2-5, zone blitz, etc. looks) which don’t create the value/advantage in those screens? Baylor was bringing the house though, I think we could have mixed in a screen to Harper.
I think our playcalling has looked bad because it has become a bit predictable. And it’s become a bit predictable because we (a) haven’t been able to run the ball well on 1st down which then leads to (b) the inevitable play-action or drop back pass on first down being defended better which then leads into (c) second and third and longs. We have typically started each game off trying to establish the run (specifically running Hubert), however we have been unable to do so, which leads us quickly into play action on 1st down – but defenses are recognizing this – and it kind of seems like we’re getting predictable in the different routes off play action. Turning the play calling over to Klein only limits the offense.
I think we need to run CK more – more option, more QB draws (w/out Wilson in the game – teams are keying him). CK needs to run better/stronger/tougher. I’ve been disappointed in his effort running, he seems to go down easier than last year – maybe the coaches have asked him to, I don’t know. But it’s one game to win the conference – lay it all out there. It would also help if our defense didn’t get us behind quickly – they’ve done so against TT, OSU, and Baylor.

Great points.
They kept pointing out the number of times we had 3rd and 10 or more. It was ridiculous. Going into the game Baylor was giving up 3rd down conversions at nearly a 60% clip and we only converted 42%. More importantly we had 19 3rd down opportunities which was the most we've had all season.

Nearly every year under Snyder at some point the play calling becomes even more predictable than it usually is . . . then they try and get cute with a laughable cuteness effort. This is issue is only expanded on by the presence of Dana Dimel . . . during Snyder/Dimel/Miller I before Dimel left for Wyoming, by late in the season the play calling/game planning was laughingly predictable.
