Title: Scouting Iowa State Thread
Post by: steve dave on October 01, 2012, 03:01:22 PM
TTech won at their place, I think we got this. But, I also don't want our guys looking ahead to WVU. We have more talent than they do at every position and their coach is absolutely awful. Just a humiliatingly bad coach of football. Thoughts?

would be a humiliating loss. since hcbs will be gameplanning all week for wvu, there could definitely be a look-ahead factor.

I'm kind of worried about this too. We should be enormous, monsterous, massive favorites though and Rhoads is a complete dumbfuck.

dont worry guyz, roads couldnt coach his way out of a wet paper bag. The only reason they are decent is because of Gene Chiziks recruits. Those players dont really believe in roads and are only looking to pad their stats.

I'm really concerned we're looking over our opponent here. ISU is a solid team and at home. We need to give every game 100% focus and attention.

Iowa State will punch us in the mouth.  They are North Texas with better talent.  This thread is cute and all, but we will be in for a dogfight with them.  It’s been a 7pt or less game every year since Snyds took over and first time in Ames since '07.

I don't think we can all marvel at this teams resolve and mental toughness and then expect them to look past anyone.

This. I have never understood the "looking ahead" talking point. I don't know how a player, much less a group of players, can practice for a team all week, and just come out and crap the bed. I get it in basketball, there's only a few days between games, but when you only have 12 games in the regular season, and a week to prepare for each one, it doesn't make sense. Unless you're up by a lot of a points and they basically announce you will be going to the NC during the game, then I can see a team shitting the bed.

True. I really think if Rhodes just keeps sawing wood, eventually he'll surpass Ron's .375 conference winning percentage, maybe even this season.

Relative:

His last 6 years at ISU (after rebuilding a program that was near pre Snyder K-State suck levels) and went 43-43 with only two losing season. He was also a missed field goal away from winning the North one year as well.

For a school like ISU this a successful football coach and they fired his ass for Gene Chizik  (who is going to make Auburn the ISU of the SEC here very soon)
Title: Re: Scouting Iowa State Thread

He was actually 34-40 over his last 6 years at ISU storm. And he was 17-31 in conference over those last 6. Over 11 seasons at ISU he had one winning season in conference (5-3 in 2000, good enough for 3rd place in the North). His last year he went 1-7 in conference. He sucked ass, there is no way to sugar coat it.

His record was really weird at ISU. He had four seasons in the middle of his career when he went 4-4 and one at 5-3, which is the best stretch of football in ISU history (I'm not making that up). But the other 6 seasons he was 1-7 or 0-8.

I suppose how I can see ISU fan will be patient with Rhodes; McCarney went 4-28 in the league his first fours seasons before the "breakthrough" 9-3 season in 2000. That is the best season ever (EVER!) for Iowa State football (unless you count 9-1 in 1906).

So even with his 27-68 conference record, McCarney had the best season ever and the best 6 year run ever at I-State.

So at the end of his time at ISU, who is more highly regarded by the fanbase, Rhodes or McCartney?

Well, McCartney won a national title.

Great point.  Now substitute McCarney in there.  Same question.

As long as Rhodes avoids those 1 or 0 win conference seasons that killed Dan, he'll stay at ISU and be revered forever.

I think Rhodes is on thinner ice than people realize. After failing to beat Tech at home, he's a loss to KU away from getting fired at the end of this season.

There used to be butter statues of McCarney as well. Then they decided those statues would be better used as a condiment for their sweet corn.

What is our average score against Kent State since 2004? Would you think we have a dog fight on our hands if they were on the schedule? We are going to destroy ISU. We are far better than they are. We are gonna win 'em all.

Meh. We've won the last 4 and 5 of last 6. 05 and 06 were embarrassing blowouts though. This is our best team and ISU is about the same as they always are under Rhodes.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing some _FANalysis for ISU, but it seems to be a waste of time. Probably just put my energy into a WVU one.

When is the last time a team had 3 weeks off in the middle of the season? I'll bet Snyder is pissed about the schedule this year.

Ro-ads already beat Iowa, now he just needs to pull a random upset (not us) and he'll get a five year extension after going 5-7.

If he doesn't get that random upset, and I just don't see that happening this year, he had better beat KU. Otherwise, he's 3-9 and collecting unemployment.
