Title: Sheep and Meat Goat Q/A (still like some advice on sweet SI issue)
Post by: RickRampus on August 09, 2012, 11:54:06 AM
First time poster, long time viewer.

I wanted to get goEMAW's elite advice on a situation I have.  I just got out of college and joined the real world.  I have an office job, but no emaw influenced decorations in my office.  Cruised around the net for awhile and found a September 4th, 1989 issue of Sports Illustrated in mint condition and purchased it.  Rick, why in the eff does it matter that you bought and old shitty issue of SI one might ask?  Well this is the issue that they proclaimed KSU to be FutilityU.  I thought it would be  :ksu: if I got it signed by Snyder and framed it and hung it in my office, I then e-mailed Currie (he replied, pretty shocked that he did) and got me into touch with Snyder's personal assistant who got into touch with me and is agreeing to get it signed for me.

My question(s) to all of you out there is how should I do it?  Should I have him sign the article, the magazine, how should I have it framed, etc.  Or maybe you can tell me if you think I am a raging idiot/possible tuck at having this hang in my office.

All constructive comments will be appreciated.  I am a little apprehensive about posting here as I have seen what some of you can do to a person on this site and the obvious personal turmoil this would cause on myself if I was not accepted.  Please don't be a d-bag.

As my title says, I like this place.  Favorite poster is Dlew or Fanning.  Favorite thread BY FAR is GPC Thread Title of the Day.  I cannot figure out if elwoodcat is a sock or not, but I pray that he is real and I could meet him one day.  My first game I was present at was when we played Cincinatti in the early 90's.  I hate that people yell Chiefs at the end of the National Anthem.

Thanks for viewing and I look forward to possibly posting on here more to escape the dim reality of my life now that I am in an office and hope that posting will brighten my days.

See if you can get the LHC to light one end of it and smoke it like a cigar for a little bit before extinguishing it and have it shipped back.  Frame it or encase it in epoxy.

Edit: also ask if they can get a photo of Bill smoking it

I hope you are not joking about this... this is an awesome idea. I am legitimately jealous.  I have that article as my desktop background. I find it inspirational.

My favorite part of that whole article is the end. "Snyder, predicting the future, says. 'We will be as good as we can be, and we will not be 0-11.' Stay tuned." ... classic Snyder. He knew. He knew.

Have him sign the article, and then right next to this picture frame the quote "We will be as good as we can be, and we will not be 0-11." and then next to that frame a picture of Snyder with the Big 12 trophy, also signed.

And then when K-State wins the BCS National Championship this year, put up a signed picture of Snyder with the Coaches' Trophy.

holy crap, a lot of effing sheep, depends on breed and age, blackface sheep (meat breeds) take about 50 full size ewes to fill a sack

dude, it doesn't matter, they are destructive little bastards that get out of the pens every, EVERY, day.  i've had the campus cops call me a lot, favorite one was when they called, I was pak'd (did I use that right, still not sure what it means), they told me to come put them back, I asked if they were going to come get me or give me a dui

NOT SO FAST! I just read on wiki that it only takes 20 sheep to fill a sack! WHAT NOW MOTHER rough rider

glad you took the time to do that after I told you that that was for meat type breeds, wool breeds (white faced) typically have a lot of effing wool, while you are on wiki look at the merino, rambouillet or columbia breeds of sheep, those are the popular/ones i know wool breeds off the top of my head.  I don't like wool breeds

i like the eff out of ground lamb, but i don't know where to buy it at a reasonable price.  please tell me where, or if i need to buy a sheep and grind him up.  if i need to grind up a sheep, please advise on what parts grind best.

if there's somewhere to buy big chunks of sheep to grind instead of whole sheep, i'd rather do that.  if the price is comparable.

given your history around here makes me wary to reply, but I'm a glutton for punishment so here goes

sheep are basically small cattle when you boil it all down, thus, the best cuts that you would find in a steer, you would find in a lamb, that being said, I have never eaten ground lamb because our local locker plant makes our ground meat into a summer sausage with jalapenos and cheese mixed in that I think is effing amazing

not to turn this into craigslist, but some of our late born lambs are fed out and sold just like you would for cattle or hogs and we wholesale any cut, not sure where you live, but I do know someone that markets cuts at the Manhattan Farmer's Market.  if you are seriously interested pm me

if I had to pick a breed it would be Hampshire, no doubt, favorites are usually crossbreds though

i live in california, so i need more generic advice.  are you saying craigslist is the best place to look for wholesale lamb products?  i need to know where to look.  and what are you trying to say with the best cuts comment?  that i shouldn't grind the whole lamb?  just spit it out if that's what you want to say.  i may grind it anyways, what the eff do i care?

hampshires, well i wasn't expecting that.  i'm suffolk by tradition, but i can't help thinking on those damn shropshires, if you know what i mean.  do you like hair sheep?  dorpers are pretty striking animals, you have to admit.

i live in california, so i need more generic advice.  are you saying craigslist is the best place to look for wholesale lamb products?  i need to know where to look.  and what are you trying to say with the best cuts comment?  that i shouldn't grind the whole lamb?  just spit it out if that's what you want to say.  i may grind it anyways, what the eff do i care?

if I had to pick a breed it would be Hampshire, no doubt, favorites are usually crossbreds though

hampshires, well i wasn't expecting that.  i'm suffolk by tradition, but i can't help thinking on those damn shropshires, if you know what i mean.  do you like hair sheep?  dorpers are pretty striking animals, you have to admit.

What part of Cali?  Just general.  If your norCal or even centralCal, there should be quite a few Basques running sheep that you should be able to buy from.

fresno.  yeah, there are basques, although i think they use peruvians or ecuadorians to shepherd the flocks now.  maybe the basques own the flocks, i dunno.  but i don't know where to buy the sheep products is the problem.  i can drive around and see sheep, but i can't drive around and see sheep products, if you follow.

If you talk to one of the farmers, you can probably just purchase a sheep and then take it to a butcher.

To take this one step further, said farmer will prob have an employee who would butcher it for you for cash on the side.

Maybe don't think about it as $10.99 per pound.  Maybe think of it as not having to figure out what to do with all the other goat that isn't grindable?  I mean, do you really want that clogging up your freezer?

ok, ok what I meant by the cuts thing is, if you are just grinding it, don't use the prime(expensive) cuts, go with the shoulder and neck, they will have a higher fat content to so you will get more flavor. we've sold lambs on craigslist before for this kind of situation, if I were you I'd buy one and have it processed the way you want it so if you want the entire carcass grinded you can.  remember to only use lamb, not mutton. somebody surely has a lamb out there that can be bought.  hopefully this helps, I'm not from the area so idk where the sheep stores are, longshot but you might see if any of the colleges around you have a flock (like us)

suffolks are my 2nd favorite breed, usually my favorite lambs are hamp x suffolk cross because they produce the best show lambs

I hate hair sheep, dorpers are wierd and crazy

breed type, goats are divided like sheep (meat/dairy) I guess, no effing clue if you can eat a wattle

RickFanning - I build frames, but I think I read on here somewhere around the time beastiality was brought up, that you are in CA, so I probably can't help you get this one framed, but I do have a suggestion as to how you should do it...

Looking here (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/edb/reader.html?magID=SI&issueDate=19890904&mode=reader_vault) it looks like the article takes 6 pages...I would cut that bitch up, and make a large frame with a double matt (purple velour on top, and black or silver on bottom) with each page cut out...Probably aligned vertically, with 2 page spreads (so the frame, after matting would be approx 24" wide & 40" tall)...if you wanted to add the cover to it, you may want to think about getting an 8.5"x11" of LHCBS signed (maybe a pic of young Bill, from the intro presser or something) and having the article in 2 rows of four pages, with the Cover, signed LHCBS & opening FUTILITY U (I'd put the cover in top left, LHCBS in top right & FUTILITY U in the middle) making the top row and the 4 pages of the actual article making the bottom row...would be approx 40# wide & 24" tall, depending on how much mat you'd want between pages...if you go over 40" in any direction the costs will probably just about double as you'll have to find oversized mat board.

Think like this, but in a much larger frame with purple velour matting, and without the crazy bitch holding something about sheep.

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.framingconceptsonline.com%2Fassets%2F501020%2Flr_carnell_juliethumbnail.jpg&hash=d36ef937c58be52c238fd7e87cac65e06ebbf8ef)

As to the signature (assuming you want the SI signed, & not a pic), I'd get LHCBS to sign the opening 2-page spread with the "Futulity U" in big letters.

Pretty bad ass project you've got on your hands...I may have to copy your idea  :ksu:

OK, it is clear that you are not Sonofdaxjones, Bastard Sonofdaxjones or even sonofabitch.
Also I enjoy your sheep speak.
Protip:  Do not speak with authority about meat goats.  Some of us are very educated about this commodity.  I myself went to many parties where we partake in cooking roasted goat.  They look a lot like a dog; so much in my day many of the gents at the party would come up with an excuse to head home.  Only to check to see if their favorite pet was alive and well.  Anyway, it was very lean and stringy.  I always drowned the meat in BarBQ sauce to make it more palpable, and it never hurt to have plenty of good brew to wash it down.
Cheers my friend.
