Tech is bad, we've all seen it. Their closest game in Big 12 play was an 8 point loss to Oklahoma State and they have one game with an offensive efficiency of >1.0 PPP. They are currently #245 in kenpom and no Big 12 team has finished >200 in the kenpom era (since 2003). Of course this doesn't account for Watkin's aTm team, but that's about the only team I can think of that may have been worse. Offensively they are the worst shooting team, worst TO% team, and next to worst offensive rebounding team in the league. They are also worst at forcing TOs and send people to the FT line more than we do (or anyone else in the league). The one thing they do moderately well is defensive rebound, but we O-boarded at nearly a 42% clip in Lubbock.
I could possible worry about a post like this jinxing us tonight, but I won't. They had a TO 1 out of every 3 possessions last time, I wouldn't expect that to change tonight, plus I doubt their middle school guard will go off like he did in Lubbock.
Cats 78
Tech 62

Don't like this thread.
-
Tech is the worst team ever, at any level. You won't have to blame this thread if we lose, because i'll have already started 8 different threads on how bad our players suck.
-
Billy is playing for next year.
He will have them good in a couple seasons.

Yes, agree with both.
-
Biily won't have Melvin Watkins walking through that recruiting door for him.
-
Cats 78
Tech 62
I don't think they will score anywhere close to 62.
-
The only thing I'm worried about is how terrible the crowd is going to be tonight. Don't expect any booing or noise. But Tech is epically bad and we already beat them in a silent arena

Yeah, if we lose tonight either a) no one will be on this board ("Turn out the lights..."), or b) no one will stop melting down long enough to remember this thread.
I'm guessing the former; losing to Tech would bring on the wave of resignation and indifference, not a heated meltdown.
-
Watkins' team with zero wins was probably the most freakish talent/wins gap in history. He had Acie Law and Antoine Wright!

His bigs situation was a clusterfrack, wasn't it?

And Nick Anderson!
I originally thought it was earlier than 03, but that team was #167 in kenpom. Watkins was terrible that year.

it would be the worst loss ever in the frank martin era from a rpi standpoint. it should call for a meltdown that would put chernobyl to shame, imo. Even I think we're going to win the game.

I think indifference is the worst kind of meltdown possible. :dunno:
-
It would be one of the worst home losses ever.
But we aren't going to lose.
-
I'm not convinced Billie Clyde will magically get them going in a few years. He was pretty bad in Kentucky.

It will be interesting to see. He inherited some really good players at aTm, and that helped him a lot, but his teams also played really hard and were good on defense. I think he can get Tech to be a competitive mid-level Big 12 team, but we'll see.

This. A Tech loss would kill off a lot of canaries.
-
I doubt Tech scores much over 50 points.
KSU 70 something
TT high 40s or low 50s
-
BCG loves him some JC's, 3 in last year's class, 3 more for '12. Who knows, the next Pierre Jackson might be bouncing around out there somewhere.
I think Tolbert is legit and is a solid piece to be build around. Wagner showed some skils the 1st time around agains the Cats but I think he's going to have to put on some weight in order to be their PG of the future. SG Ty Nurse has really turned it on since the game in Lubbock(OK sorta), averaging 14.3 pts and shooting 41% from 3.
The bottom line tonight is just win, which doesn't appear to be a monumental task, but it would be nice to coast home(aka PT for walkons) with a 15+ pt victory.
-
but it would be nice to coast home(aka PT for walkons) with a 15+ pt victory.
 at ever building a lead up big enough to coast. If we manage do get up by 15 we will piss down our leg per usual and let them back in it
-
You do realize we won by 22 in Lubbock right? That game wasn't any closer than 15 for the majority of the 2nd half.
I'm not denying that the KSU Cats have had some difficulty closing this year, but in Tech, we're not talking about an even average B12 team, they're just plain bad.
-
I thought Tolbert was very good and the most athletic guy on the court when we played them.

no, he wasn't watching. He wasn't going to watch the FP's anymore.
-
Tech read this thread and got fired up to solidify their place as worst ever.
-
They did just go 12 minutes without a field goal....
-
Worst year ever for mens sports at TTU? Hocutt really building a monster.

don't really get all the tolbert love. in the land of retards the half-Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) is king, i guess.

Yeah, not even sure if he'll make the league all freshman team. He's pretty much the Cortez Groves of Tech, so he's got that I guess.

I'm not saying he is THE piece but I do believe he is A B12 caliber piece from at least to get started from. Strong and athletic, not remarkably skilled, but makes his FT's.
And get this, Sunvold just said he thinks he can be a beast :ohno:
-

yeah, i agree. legit big 12 player, but nothing more than that. if he's still their best player in 3 years, they'll still suck.

I remember starting a thread like this and getting bashed pretty hard.

didn't wooly beat bcg two times?
Yes Wooly lost to BCG the first time they met in College Station, Wooly won later that year in the Phillips 66 and then beat BCG in Bramlage the next season.

Talent wise obviously the 03-04 A&M team had a giant edge, and statistically the numbers bear that out. This Tech team looks to be undoubtedly the worst in Big 12 history. So not only was the 03-04 A&M team the worst, it probably wasn't even the second worst. I'll enter 04-05 Baylor into evidence. Scott Drew's second year. They may have been the worst defensive team in conference history and the fact that they won 1 game against CU shouldn't exclude them from the worst ever category.
I don't think A&M would have went winless if there was a true round robin. Not sure if a true round robin would have helped Baylor much, they were truly awful.

It was amazing being there. Tough to decide between that and the Sky/Dramane show in Lawrence. Top 10 UT is a close third.

yes, it was amazing. I got a high 5 from Weefs in the concourse after the game. From a nostalgic perspective, I suppose the sky/dramane ku game is 1 (I wanted to punch cartier for dribbling that ball off his leg), but like 1b would be that A&M game…for me it was the first time in the entire wooly era that I thought that they looked like a basketball team. I dunno. I actually thought we were going to beat ku…not kidding…thought we were…until Massey got like 5 fouls in the first 5 minutes of the game.
-
It makes me feel good knowing there have been Big 12 teams worse than our 2-14 team in 2000.
-
No worries for the Red Raiders, help is on the way

Attended both games and I would put the ATM win above the win in Allen. The win in AFH was such a WTF?\ game that had a lot to do with KU refusing to win it as much as we won it. Conversely, the ATM game in the P66 was huge for both teams and the cats went out and took it to them in a way Wooly's had not never done in a must win in the previous 4 years.
Add in a competitive showing against KU the following day and that NIT snub stung almost as bad as Hugg's NCAA snub.

Yeah, but Kemper was such a dump.

The 2000-01 Wooly win against #19 Iowa was pretty awesome for a young nicname. I remember being super pumped that we had actually beaten a ranked team. Of course we went on to win just 3 conference games that season.
-
Probably the most pumped I got for a Wooly win was the one in South (North?) Dakota. Fist pumps galore on that night. :dunno:

That was Huggs' year, it was N. Dak St. , they actually had a helluva player in PG Woodside(I think he was just a SO then)
Harris had it goin from downtown that night :emawkid:

Nope, it was actually the @Wyoming game (Fred Peete!) I was thinking of. 04-05 season.

You probably could have said the 04-05 season, the game Fred Peete was awesome in, or that game against a team from the WAC or Mountain West or whatever 2nd tier western conference they're in this year and that probably would have cleared up any confusion.
Confusing entire states, unforgivable geographic offense.
-
Sorry professor.
-
The wyoming game wasn't televised, but kstatesports posted a video of Fred Peete's heroics. Marques Hayden looked so happy.

Tech played 6 guys last night. And the 6th man had 8 minutes. They put up a grand total of 12 points in the 2nd half.
