Wife and I went last year and stayed the night with the intent of heavily drinking.  We went to several of the bars that night, and there was no one out.  No one.  It was really rough ridin' cold though...like 6 degrees cold.

I have heard that NYE is pretty cool when the weather is better.

I am going this year, but not staying after the game.

Aren't all the non-townies still gone?  What in the world would you do in Manhattan over the break?

Did NYE in Manhattan every year while in school. Always had a good time, its actually better when there are less people out since you dont have to wait in lines to get in to bars.

I'm wondering where you were last year when "no one was out"? I don't remember much, but I know at least 3 places were 1 in, 1 out, at least after midnight...

we hit BWW, Omaleys, Coco Bolos, and a few others.  No one was out.  We were going to go out and watch the band, but it was ridic cold out and there was only like 20 or 30 people outside.

Def didn't see anything resembling 1 in 1 out anywhere.  We walked around a lot too looking for a bar that wasn't slow..

There are few things Ging is more dedicated to than drunken food eating. One of those is EMAW.  When the two collide, it is a beautiful thing.

Hey, I'll drink some beers with you.

I just wanted to make sure that the young bucks of goEMAW intended to pull off the same magic as at an earlier pak this year when after catching a DD ride out of aggieville before I could eat, food magically appeared at Dlew's house* at the perfect moment.

*The kitchen/dining area with a normal temperature, not the arboretum that will be struggling to stay at 50 degrees Saturday night.

I'm at a distinct disadvantage because fanning has built-in grease that cornermen apply to the boxers between rounds.

Me and Tortuga hit every house on Laramie across from Theta Xi, looking for the one that had an arboretum built into its west side.  Nothing.  We did get to party with Jose and Bralio (sp?), dlew's neighbors a few houses to the east, and nearly got into a fight regarding the Dodge City - Garden City rivalry.  :dunno:

I got put on the DC side, even though I didn't have a dog in the fight.  A few of the people mentioned they grew up in GC and I noted I'd worked in DC for a short time, and it kind of exploded from there.

8manpick and a certain balding kid with lots of self loathing were very helpful in ridding you of some chinese food, although there were about 300 crab rangoon left. We were also quite abusive to the ging passed out on the couch. If I had been able to find dlew's room I would have undoubtedly been mean to him too...

You guys are really missing out. It's pretty tasty stuff  :lick: Fireball makes an excellent chaser too. Good call ERII!

What's the story on this Carney band? Are they real carnies, or is there some sort of special meaning there? It's so hard to tell nowadays with band names. I prefer a simpler time when bands had names like "Crosby Stills Nash & Young" or "The Jackson 5". People knew who to expect at those shows.

Well Townie_Cat, let me tell you a story about how The Carney Encore got it's name. A friend of a friend of a friend of mine passed this story along to me. Apparently, it's not that far off the lines of "The Jackson Five". "Carney" was the maiden name of the lead singer's mother, so it does happen to be a family name!

Well Townie_Cat, let me tell you a story about how The Carney Encore got it's name. A friend of a friend of a friend of mine passed this story along to me. Apparently, it's not that far off the lines of "The Jackson Five". "Carney" was the maiden name of the lead singer's mother, so it does happen to be a family name!

i thought it was just because you guys are all weirdo carnies.

confession time:  i've never ate lobster before  :ohno:

me neither, friend.

I'm even more confused about the name now. S60 is usually on top of things like this, but he is way outnumbered.

Now how does the Encore part play in? Do they just assume the crowd will want to hear more when they are done with their set? In my concert going experiences usually encores are requested by the audience

Regardless of how they got their name they sound like a delightful band and I look forward to the show tonight.

carnies usually entertain people at carnivals with an unusual talent or skill. the members of The Carney Encore are carnies that all work for the same carnival in MHK. In addition for working for the same carnival, these carnies also moonlight as musicians.

singer/guitar: this guy is the closest thing this carnival has to a bearded lady. when he's not performing for the crowds he spends his time cooking up corndogs for the carnival goers.
drummer: sometimes he sells the corndogs over by the dunk tank, but he usually works the front gate.
guitar: strongest man in the universe. he likes to pickup big, heavy things and perform various other feats of strength for the crowds. sometimes he wrestles our next carney/band member.
bass (stevesie60): last but not least, our very own, stevesie60. he makes and sells the world's best refreshments, which he sells over by the corndog stand.

I do not recommend PnL NYE. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and everyone realized what a stupid idea this was. Believe the party is at John's now.
