Title: where do you want to see goEMAW in 5 years?
Post by: ednksu on December 04, 2011, 10:49:36 AM
seems like this place will never grow as a brand if the continued asshattery goes on.

I honestly believe the owners of goEMAW have a serious model for a successful business.  A rebel board with good advertising would compete heavily with any scout or rivals systems. People want info, not over moderation and creepers who stalk young women.  goEMAW has had some great scoops because of the drive for info from other sources.

However I think goEMAW hurts their future success by running off rival fans bases through sheer high school retardation.  What did Havs do you get run out?  What did numerous KU fans who were sick of phog do to get run off?  Now we're stuck with shitty posters like Beems and that one Husker guy who works at the Union Taco Bell.

The light moderation means that your final paragraph can never be fixed by the owners.

one slightly major hurdle in your scheme is that nobody really cares about growing or branding or making money.

As long as this site stays true to our original mission, helping the owners sex up married women, I will maintain the status quo.

than why contribute to fundraisers and sponsor events?  I think you are trying to be contrarian just for the persona.  Your actions are speaking for you, that there is some method to the madness.  For the sake of argument why not try and grow the brand of a rebel board?  Why not consider this venture as a legitimate opportunity? WtW shows that the model can be grown to other sources.  Why not get in on the ground floor and make a brand that you can profit from instead of waiting for an imitator like WtW to copy what youre already doing.

Disagree.  You can have banter, name calling and invention names for various fan bases without crossing various lines.  Look at the amazing things rebel boards have done for this university in particular.  All you have to do is look at the basketball court to see the far reaching effects of a focuses group outside of corporate control.

Trashing on people for having suicidal family members or kids getting trample does nothing to create fun dialogue between people.  If people want a powerespect level of moderation they know where to find it.  This place could be the best place for informative debate and legit trash talking (see cranky horn and land grabers) without crossing even minimal levels of moderate discourse.

Once non-NFSW material is open to moderation, how do you decide where to draw the line?  and who decides?

This is just my opinion,  but what makes goEMAW work is that in effect this place is community-owned.   Not being a "rebel" board or whatever that means.  You want to make a banner for the site, go ahead and do it, we'll probably add it.  Make a cool video, we'll promote it.  Have great blog ideas or an article you want published, we'll provide you a platform to do so.

There is nothing wrong with goEMAW that cannot be cured by what is right with goEMAW.  It's just sometimes the good is not very active about it.

I agree with what you are saying.  Although I disagree with the direction of your post.  The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. The rebel board is a simple concept.  Don't sell out to a corporation or yourself (ie: promised premium with nothing to offer and duping people into believing that you get the same content from the big boards).

To answer Tortuga and extend my point.  You can have freedom of speech and vibrant conversation without yelling fire in the theater.  Shaggy bevo is a pretty good example of a third party.  I think this place would be better and honestly it would be better for K-State University proper if there was a place where fans wanted to come to see new and interesting topics.  The goEMAW/ksufans brand has already proven that they can generate ideas which effect the university.

let me ask you this question, what are your thoughts about goEMAW.com car, home and life insurance for you and your family if you knew that 40% of the profits were funneled into a superfund of sorts that directly profited kansas state university athletics?  :dunno:

You can have reasonable censorship and dialogue.

there is a filter and we remove spam.  In addition we have screwed around with fanning and a couple others.

The entire problem with censorship is that "reasonable censorship" is impossible to execute and invites abuse.

The point stands, other forums have modded racism more severely than here.  It is modded here to some degree.  Why not mod people being asshats with similar soft, supple, yet firm hand.
