4 page (and counting...) thread delving in to the endless screw jobs bestowed upon the University of Kansas athletic teams.

I'd like to pose a question to you Tortuga, and that question is this: Are the National Championships that KU won had the refs not sucked so badly, so they actually didn't win them-
a) worth more than their Helms titles
b) equal to their Helms titles
c) worth less than their Helms titles
-
And how many of these supposed ass rapes led to rules changes?
-
all they do is complain  they need to shut the eff up
-
That thread is like a perfect pair of broke jeans or your favorite down comforter.

LOL . . . old Ted Owens and his straight from the peach basket days end of game, run a baseline screen and beg the refs to call a foul when the defender plows the screener over play . . . OMG  My god, if it weren't for the fact that WSU won that game, Smithson should have been fired on the spot for not understanding that Ted Owens had been running that same play in those situations since Moses parted the Red Sea.
As far as I know, not one of those issues resulted in a rule change, or a procedural change on things like how teams were selected for bowls. I can think of 3 instances right off the top of my head where things happened to K-State and praise be to Allah the rules were literally changed the next year because of what happened.

First off,
great question 'clams. GREAT QUESTION! I would have to think that by virtue of those prospective National Championships being more recent than the Helms titles they might have some increase bbs'ing cache. So at first blush, I'd say "worth more."
Everyone: "Well, what about second blush Tortuga?"
Second blush? Well, that's easy. It brings to mind a great Kansas saying during pheasant hunting (Ku football) season. One in the hand is worth two in the bush. Using basic stoichiometry, we can easily see that:
Hand: 2 helms titles Bush: 4 NCAA Tourney Titles
Well, just whatchya gonna do, squawk? Any normal person would take the shot at 4 NCAA Tourney Titles. But guess what, squawk?

Most knowledgeable fanbase in america. We are blessed to have them around. It is a difficult place to play as a referee mostly because the fans often know the rule book betterthan they do. All in all, squawks are gonna boo like squawks are gonna boo.

FWIW, he was cleared at USC. He definitely played in the gray areas though. Obviously, no KU coach would ever tread in those waters.

Yes Coach Bumps aka Doug Compton's BFF would never play in the gray areas, never.

Would never offer a scholarship to a player that received illegal benefits, had to sit out part of the season and pay back the illegal benefits.

Hilburn salute prompts a rule change
Staff reports
It may not be much of a consolation to Kansas State now, but at least the Wildcats can lay claim to the fact that a rule is being altered due in large part to them.
More than 300 college football officials from numerous BCS conferences, including the Big 12, met for a three-day clinic, which concluded Saturday in Kansas City. One of the topics discussed was the controversial unsportsmanlike conduct call on K-State's Adrian Hilburn, who was flagged for saluting the crowd after scoring a touchdown late in K-State's loss to Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl. The 15-yard penalty pushed the Wildcats' potential game-tying two-point conversion attempt from the 18-yard line, 15 yards back from the normal spot, significantly damaging K-State's chances to send the game to overtime.
Following new rules changes this offseason, salutes won't be a penalty, as officials have been told to largely ignore spontaneous celebrations, and rather shift their focus to premeditated celebrations and taunting of the opponent, such as finger pointing and high-stepping.
Never.

jfc, stop looking for validation so hard. hilburn's salute isn't the first time that something like that has happened.

Depends, how was the officiating in the games where they won the Helms titles?

It's always rich when fans of a program with no national titles in any team sport make fun of KU's Helms titles. Using powerespect logic, every national title in college football that was won before the current BCS system is invalid.

Wow... let me spell it out for you, then. Helms titles were awarded before there was an NCAA tournament, the same way that national titles in college football were awarded before the current BCS system. The fact that KU acknowledges our Helms titles is no different than Notre Dame acknowledging their pre-BCS national titles in college football.

LOL at Auburn, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Nebraska for counting their "national title" in 1993.

Don't Yale and Columbia have like half a dozen helms national titles between the two of them? Basketball Bluebloods.

While you clowns were busy awarding yourselves national titles decades after the fact, we were busy breaking the color barrier. I guess priorities got in the way of satisfying an adolescent sense of security.
Racial integration at Kansas State
Kansas State historically has been welcoming to all races. As far back as the 1940s and 1950's (a time regarded by many for its lack of civil rights in the United States), the leadership of K-State athletics took a strong stance in support of racial integration.
Football
In 1949, African American Harold Robinson played football for Kansas State with an athletic scholarship. In doing so, Robinson broke the decades-long "color barrier" in Big Seven Conference athletics. Harold Robinson later received a letter of congratulations from Jackie Robinson, who had integrated major league baseball in 1947 while playing with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Baseball
In the spring of 1951, the conference color barrier in baseball was broken by Kansas State's Earl Woods (the father of golf great Tiger Woods). An indicator of the controversial nature of this position is reflected in an article published in The Tulsa World about an incident that occurred in the early 1950s during a baseball game: “Former teammate Larry Hartshorn recalled an instance when the Wildcats were scheduled to play a spring game against a team from Mississippi. During warm-ups, the Mississippi coach took notice of Earl, and according to Hartshorn, the coach said his team would play the game only if the black player stayed on the bus. Instead, K-State coach Ray Wauthier put everybody on the bus. "We just left," Hartshorn said.”
Men's Basketball
Finally, in the winter of 1951–1952, Kansas State's Gene Wilson broke the conference color barrier in basketball.
In hind sight, makes ku look pretty pathetic on all accounts.

How many times do you think Tiger Woods has been to lawrence? Meanwhile, they love MHK so much that his father chose it as his final resting place...
