once a year for me, unless I find myself on a boat for an extended amt of time.

Pasty skinned freaks
should invest in an aloe plant.

I hardly ever burn, but last year at the UCLA game, I got a sunburn on my face so bad that it scabbed up forcing me to resemble Harvey Dent for a week. Truly gruesome stuff.
The things the trials and tribulations of being EMAW i guess.

yeah, I got a left side face burn at that one that was pretty hilarious.
-
I wear an excessive amount of sunscreen if there's any chance of being burnt. I don't mind the burning feeling, but the itching/dry skin feeling after a couple days is unbearable. Not worth the tan I get afterward.
-
Got my ears burnt all to hell one time at Beaver Creek. crap hurt so bad I actually had to cover them when underneath bright lights. Never really though about putting sunscreen on my ears before then.

Haven't been in a few years but it was basically Vail's classier bro when I was there. At that point, the prices of lift tickets kept the riff raff out...
-
treysolid's one sunburn related tip for when it's already too late:
keep your aloe in the fridge and apply it while still nice and cold

Some one told me That goldbond on sunburns is were its at, I don't want to be the one to test it out.

I visit friends in FL or TX at least one weekend a month in the fall/winter months for this exact reason.

Usually only burn once a summer. Been easing in to this one with some SPF30. Got my sunburn about two weeks ago wearing tank top A in the back yard. Wore tank top B this weekend(diff cut) and had my wife spray on the SPF30. She missed the very edge of the tank top and now I have a red stripe on top of both shoulders and look like the old Cincinnati football unis with only one stripe. :curse:

laying down some DEEP, DEEP groundwork for an epic summer tan.

ARMS: fully on board
Legs: solid start
Stomach: not ready for primetime

If you paid attention to the "Things that shouldnt freak you out but do thread" I have a sever dislike for sunscreen lotion, I dont mind the spray on stuff as much.
I laid down a solid base coat fishing shirtless a couple of weeks ago. I find that if you get a solid first burn, around 3-4 on the pain scale, you are pretty much golden the rest of the year unless you spend all day drinking on a boat. In that case I will suck it up and put on some spray on lotion, not sure on the SPF, its whatever someone else has on hand.
-
suntan lotion on my mostly bald head :(
-
oooo and as for worst sunburn.
4th grade snorkeling in the Keys. I tricked my mom into thinking that I had put sunscreen on but I didnt! Went snorkeling for a couple hours and my back got toasted, probably a 7-8 on the pain scale, only time I have ever used Aloe as that freaks me out too(lotion).
-
currently peeling from the spring game :(
I'm just about thru it
ChiCat "Am I getting really red?"
Lying ChiCatGF "No, its not bad"
Everyone I see for the next three days "Holy crap! You got some sun!"
-
Aloe makes me feel sticky. I hate it.

Thanks. It's not a terribly big deal. I'm just happy it's not a melanoma.

Ok, I thought you'd never ask. So this Canadian friend of mine is currently treating a person who bumped their head hard enough to knock them out. As a result this person had a fleshy wound on top of their head... and it didn't go away... for ten years. This person just put gauze on it and covered it up with a ball cap for ten years.
Slowly it grew and by the time my Canadian friend was aloud to check it out the fleshy wound pretty much covered half this person's head. It had eroded the scalp and bone. This person's brain is exposed like just hanging out of their head. You could see it pulsing with every beat of the heart.
After a quick test they found out basal cell was the culprit. They could have saved their self some embarrassment, tons of money and headaches if they would have just gotten some treatment early on. It took 8 hrs of surgery, some govment plastic, and a huge skin graft from their lower back to fix it.

You should see if you can get one of those things the players wear on their heads, I bet they do a good job of keeping the sun off your head.

Caps have been known to do this. That said, beware of the temptation to turn a cap backwards. Although I often wear caps backwards, backwards in a scorching sun can result in a forehead half-burn. Very unfashionable if the cap is not properly adjusted.

Thx, Wackycat. The scar makes me look like a badass.

I think sunburns might be the universe punishing white people for slavery and being assholes. Like, you can go ahead and run the whole world I guess, but the tradeoff is if you're in direct sunlight for half an hour your skin starts to cook and you might get cancer.
-
man I got a great base on Sunday. Now I can begin the bronzing process.
-
I've got some awesomely bad tank top tan lines going on from my earlier trips to #boozecat games.
