Almost 100% of what get blanket termed "science" and is posited against religion/God stuff amounts to a false dichotomy.  I find it annoying as hell and have felt compelled to completely ignore it.  Much like politics.  Anyone else?

Yep. They are just awful to be around. I mean, I don't care if you believe or not, but I don't want to hear about it. The only thing more awkward is the guy who asks you where you go to church.

Nope, Eastern.

Also, the Christians didn't seem butthurt about it, but they do say stuff about praying for my soul for me or how I will be sorry on judgement day, etc.  Maybe that is the christian brand of butthurt and they just show it diff?  :dunno:

in my old neighborhood, once a week someone would knock on my door and invite me to attend their church, then give me the silent judgment face when I told them no.  I started simply telling them that I was already a member of a diff church so that they wouldn't try to further the convo.

Them: "we would love you to be our guest at the blah blah baptist/methodist/catholic/etc church this sunday"
Me: "Yeah, sorry we are methodist/Catholic/Baptist/opposite of etc, so we can't"
Them: "well as long as you have god in your life..."

never once had an atheist knock on the door and tell me to be atheist.

The "where do you go to church?" thing is very annoying. The worst is right when you move into a new place and it's the first thing your neighbor asks you. It really sets things off on the wrong foot. If somebody comes up to my door and tries to convert me, I just shut the door, but it's more awkward when I'm actually going to see this guy from time to time.

Debating only makes people stronger in their views. It's like an emotional attachment. You feel that since someone is attacking your view you have to defend it and in doing so you convince yourself to believe it even more. So, I would assume the answer is no.

God as soon as I moved to Mississippi the bible belt reared its ugly head.

Every week for 3 months 2 different people(probably around 30 different people) asked me where I went to church at, and then would tell me how awesome their church was and that I should come.

My go to answer was always "Ok I'll think about it" and I would just walk away.

One of my favorite past times here is to walk by those peoples offices talking to someone and right when I get to their office I stop and talk loud enough for them to hear me and say - "Praise Allah that this project came out ok!"

They won't talk to me for a week or two after I do that. Best crap ever.

Not really from a debate by itself, but from reading about different perspectives and thinking. Saying a debate is pointless probably means you question your ability to defend your beliefs.

The internet is home to annoying atheists.  The real-world is home to annoying evangelicals.

I think the main difference is that at least a majority of the evangelicals I come in contact with seem sincere and caring (not to say there aren't extremists and whackos), while internet atheism seems unnecessarily petty and mean spirited.  I don't know if that has more to to with the internet or the people.  Some of the most ardent internet-atheists I know are pretty cool in real life.

No, but I have been hit on by a number of gay gentlemen.  At the gym and at bars in undergrad and law school mostly.  It's pretty great.  Like thanks for the compliment guy.  It makes me wonder though whether it's just because they think I'm attractive or because maybe something about me makes them think I'm slutty.  :dunno:

Maybe you should try one of the churches just to see if you like it. Just to try it out. When I was a kid I hated tomatoes. Would not eat them. But now I love tomatoes and basically eat them non stop.  Food for thought.

that seems weird. do you have to keep some in your pocket just incase you want a snack?

ya.

True story: no one has ever attempted to talk me into or out of a religion in my entire life.  Not once.

Do you feel as angry about that as I am that no gay guy has ever hit on me?

No, but I have been hit on by a number of gay gentlemen.  At the gym and at bars in undergrad and law school mostly.  It's pretty great.  Like thanks for the compliment guy.  It makes me wonder though whether it's just because they think I'm attractive or because maybe something about me makes them think I'm slutty.  :dunno:

BF was fondled by a gay gentleman a few years ago.  No means no.

I have no idea if he was christian or atheist.

I was in an airport the other day waiting for my flight and this really old couple was seated across from me with a hard sided mini cooler. they popped it open and started going to town on hard boiled eggs. peeling and eating and peeling and eating. bet each of them took down 5 or 6 disposing of the shells back into their cooler. was really bizzare.

Not that anybody asked, but I object to religion in science classrooms not because it's religion but because it's not science.
