People that never shut the eff up about not having God are the same exact people that never shut the eff up about not having TV

Yep. They are just awful to be around. I mean, I don't care if you believe or not, but I don't want to hear about it. The only thing more awkward is the guy who asks you where you go to church.

You don't see the atheists preaching in Pat Bosco Plaza or handing out their mini anti-bibles on campus once a month or prophesying our doom on the street corner or going door to door asking about your relationship with Jesus Christ.

I honestly have never been approached by someone I didn't know and been told I should be an atheist.  Have been approached by the religious and told I need more Jesus in my life a lot of times.  A lot.

Are you from western KS?

Nope, Eastern.

Also, the Christians didn't seem butthurt about it, but they do say stuff about praying for my soul for me or how I will be sorry on judgement day, etc.  Maybe that is the christian brand of butthurt and they just show it diff?  :dunno:

in my old neighborhood, once a week someone would knock on my door and invite me to attend their church, then give me the silent judgment face when I told them no.  I started simply telling them that I was already a member of a diff church so that they wouldn't try to further the convo.

Them: "we would love you to be our guest at the blah blah baptist/methodist/catholic/etc church this sunday"
Me: "Yeah, sorry we are methodist/Catholic/Baptist/opposite of etc, so we can't"
Them: "well as long as you have god in your life..."

never once had an atheist knock on the door and tell me to be atheist.

This 1000% correct. Nobody ever knocks on your door at 8:00 am to tell you how they don't have TV either.

Do you get what I am saying?

Both extremes are annoying, just like any extreme belief is annoying. But I've never found a reason for why an atheist would try to convert others.

The "where do you go to church?" thing is very annoying. The worst is right when you move into a new place and it's the first thing your neighbor asks you. It really sets things off on the wrong foot. If somebody comes up to my door and tries to convert me, I just shut the door, but it's more awkward when I'm actually going to see this guy from time to time.

I think they want the fellowship without the religion. Personally, I see the appeal of the religion, but cannot stand the fellowship.

Has anyone ever in the history of the world convinced someone to believe something different in a debate about religion or god?  I don't know, but it sure can be fun.

Debating only makes people stronger in their views. It's like an emotional attachment. You feel that since someone is attacking your view you have to defend it and in doing so you convince yourself to believe it even more. So, I would assume the answer is no.

I'll never try to convert someone to atheism but I'll try to explain to them why I don't believe

God as soon as I moved to Mississippi the bible belt reared its ugly head.

Every week for 3 months 2 different people(probably around 30 different people) asked me where I went to church at, and then would tell me how awesome their church was and that I should come.

My go to answer was always "Ok I'll think about it" and I would just walk away.

One of my favorite past times here is to walk by those peoples offices talking to someone and right when I get to their office I stop and talk loud enough for them to hear me and say - "Praise Allah that this project came out ok!"

They won't talk to me for a week or two after I do that. Best crap ever.

Not really from a debate by itself, but from reading about different perspectives and thinking. Saying a debate is pointless probably means you question your ability to defend your beliefs.

Maybe you should try one of the churches just to see if you like it. Just to try it out. When I was a kid I hated tomatoes. Would not eat them. But now I love tomatoes and basically eat them non stop.  Food for thought.

I dated an atheist who wanted to start going to a local meeting once a week. I told her one of the best parts of my agnosticism is that I wasn't committed to weekly get togethers.

Athiests make it seem an awful lot like a religion.

one of my uncles is a recent Hitch disciple. he is on an evangelical tear like i've never seen. he is undoubtedly the most religious person in the family.

he would of course deny that. but his religiosity in promoting atheism and decrying religion (specifically christianity) is as zealous as any christian proselytizing i've ever experienced.
"I started calling him John during the game, cause he was rocking it like No. 7 -- like Elway," Harper said."
