I'm having a hard time with this. I'm sure our class has some decent players and maybe a very few that will truly shine. However, its obvious we're never going to get a really great talent class w/ Snyder and his staff. So do I hope that OB can coach them up to the point where we maybe get an 8 or 9 win season, or do I resign myself to the fact that the best thing is for us to get bad enough that it forces Snyds out, and then we go into transition mode and more mediocrity for a few more years?
It's kind of :blindfold: on the one hand and :frown: on the other. Anyone else feeling the same, or is it just me?
-
Snyder will never be forced out. No matter what.
Never, ever, ever.
-
everybody here hates old ballz and has no problem saying so. go back to gopowercat and talk with fellow ob lovers.
-
We are an ag school in the middle of Kansas. Most of our fans and students are inbred :opcat: dipshits. Why, if I'm a great high school football player, and not Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), would I choose KSU over any other BCS program? (Besides ISU)
This is as good as it gets. Quit bitching, pull down your panties, and take it like a man. Get used to it.
-
It's true that Snyder is incapable of a great class, though.
We refuse to believe Kansas State is, though.
It has to be.

This has nothing to do with anything I posted.
Snyder will never be forced out. No matter what.

Never say never. But I was more referring to something like the fanbase saying "dude, we don't want this anymore" and Snyds is all like "What? The waters will be smoother if I leave? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.

How would you describe Nebraska (just curious)?

problem is 99% of the fanbase thinks snyder walks on water and can do no wrong.

There are no quick fixes in college FB. All you can do is "get a little better every day". With this class we have done that. With HCBS, he will continue to do that. It may take a few more years, but consistent top 25s and periodic competing for conf championships are on the way. Changing coaches now would seriously throw that off schedule and could result in becoming a big 12 doormat for years to come.

Yeah, yeah, I know... but I'm used to it. Not a big deal, really.

Snyder thinks highly of himself.
Also will never happen.

quit drinking. seriously, brian, we all want you to stop.
there is absolutely no way that this recruiting class helps us to "get a little better every day." unless we're suddenly playing in the c-usa.

Absolutely right. I was in Manhattan from 1992 to 2003. Then I went to undergrad in MI, law school VA, and now work in CA. So, I like to think I can speak about the midwest, southeast part of the US, and out west.
As much as I love Kansan, there is absolutely no way a coach can continuing produce top classes at KSU. There's always going to be some school with some combination of better climate, better history, more proximity to family, and better coaching. NE football history is so much better than ours. Enjoy every ball game we win, and every bowl game we attend! :ksu:

When Snyder landed 5 stars, they never panned out. No 5 stars = a good thing. 4 stars are even iffy. Look at Marvin Simmons. Jordy was a 2 star walk on!
-
A good recruiter can overcome any possible real (or imagined) shortcomings KSU has to KU, MU, OSU, ISU, BU, TT, etc.

Our 4 and 5 star boys sucked because they were JUCO transfers or dude's that weren't getting playing time at there original choice and left. It's a common theme on why we have such crap luck with high star players. Thank god for Josh Freeman and James Johnson :emawkid:

I'm more on Michigancat's side here. If you assume that we get a good to great recruiter or two, here's basically how I view the likelihood of us making up ground and out-recruiting our "peers":
ISU - WRSOAT could probably still beat them at a 50% clip. Ames  . 95% chance of out-recruiting ISU with a good recruiter
KU, BU, TT - We have a few disadvantages working against us with these schools, but they're not incredibly hard to overcome with a good to great recruiter. KU is easier to overcome than BU or TT since most Texas kids prefer to play in-state. If BU and TT were in the same state as us, we might be able to out-recruit them with WRSOAT...Lubbock and Waco are basically shitholes, and everyone in Texas knows it. 75% chance KU, 65% chance BU, 55% chance Tech
MU - They'd basically have to go into the shitter again for us to start consistently out-recruiting them like in the 90's. Otherwise, we have some definite disadvantages working against us. They're really getting a solid pipeline into Texas for the kinds of athletes they need to run their system, plus they've locked down their state much better than they have in the past. 30%.
OSU - Maybe we could beat them for the occasional 4 star or two, but they've got way too much money from T. Boone to really let us beat them consistently in recruiting battles. 5%.
Obviously, out-recruiting UT, A&M, or OU would involve them crashing and burning in spectacular fashion, John Blake at OU style, for a good decade. It's not inconceivable that a very good coaching staff at K-State could consistently produce classes right in about the middle (5th or 6th) of the conference, but going anywhere above 5th (beating MU, BU, ISU, KU, and TT) is going to be next to impossible unless one of the big programs falls from grace or T. Boone's money runs out in Stillwater.

No, it's true. This is a people business. Accepting inferiority is a lame excuse/rationalization for sucking and being lazy.

Yea I can't understand why people just give up and say well our school is nestled amongst the farmers and cows guess we will just have to settle for the DITR types and hope for the best. Many top 50 recruiting classes have been put together here and it can be done again.

ALL the schools I mentioned are surrounded by farmers and cows.

Location is overplayed as far as our conference is concerned with exception to Texas schools. Besides Austin, most of the towns and locations are between nothing special and poopy. Facilities/tradition/image are out biggest obstacles.

Having a lazy, out-of-touch staff that hates recruiting is an even bigger obstacle IMO.

True. My statement was based on "all coaches being equal" type thought.

Facilities/tradition/image are big obstacles, but not as big as the distance between Manhattan and the talent. When you have no tradition and image to draw kids to travel long distances you're just one more second class option competing for limited official visits. The more difficult it is to get there for that visit, the less likely a kid will want to take it, especially when you are dealing with the "image" issue.

Again, it isn't more difficult for KSU to get recruits in than it is ISU, MU, KU, and OSU. Tech is arguable. Yeah, it's in Texas, but it's in west Texas.

Have you seen the facilities they've built/are building in Stillwater? We're not beating them in recruiting anytime soon.

rusty is probably the most logical poster here. the only times that he is wrong (which isn't often) are the times that he disagrees w/ me or i disagree w/ him. a good rule of thumb would be to just agree w/ rusty all of the time and disagree w/ him only when i do. hth.
