Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned that SC beat Tulsa on a neutral floor. A little bit of a paradox that they were punished for not having enough top 50 wins because Tulsa wasn't in the top 50.
Literally, a team they beat was better than them because that team wasn't quite good enough by the NCAA's standards.
The same could be said about Vanderbilt.
Yeah, this is a great case where top 50 wins becomes really goofy. Tulsa finished with 4, Vandy with 2, and South Carolina with only 1, but none of these teams finished in the Top 50 in the RPI. So South Carolina beats what ended up being 2 tournament teams, but they didn't really get much credit because neither showed up as Top 50 wins.
This is where the committee has to make the next move and adjust the value of top 50 wins for winning on the road, at home, or a neutral venues. This is where kenpom's Tier A and B lists for teams can become helpful and there is no reason the committee couldn't adopt a similar criteria with the RPI.
