According to the Republican Congressmen(women) that I have close ties to have told me that Trump will take all the heat, arrows and bullets up to the point that gives enough time to bail and DeSantis will then be the nominee for President.

Trump is doing this because he is wanting to keep the focus off of DeSantis for as long as he can to throw a wrench in the democrats plans to think he is the nominee.

Let me say this is speculation from many Republican members of Congress and nothing of a guarantee.

Only time will tell if this comes to fruition. But very interesting nonetheless. I think it's an excellent strategy
