Title: RG3: How would you scheme for him??
Post by: Boakai on September 25, 2011, 06:54:18 PM
Lets hear it HFBIQ types!!!!

Random stream of thoughts:

Did Miami expose our safeties defending the pass?  :ohno:

Should we run a spy? DE or OLB (maybe Tre)??  :comehere:

Drop Lamur back to help in coverage?

Would Arthur be assigned to fill gaps and stop runs and just do what he does? or can he be useful in coverage?

I'm not sure if our CB's will be able to man up against K. Wright and Co. , but I think they will need to try so that we can free up a blitzer and attack the edges.
It just seems like RG3 using his mobility and buying his receivers time is his most dangerous weapon. I know Baylor likes those bubble screens, but I think our CB's and OLB's have that covered

Maybe.

Baylor's offense is going to score some points.  Letting RG3 sit comfortably in the pocket is bad news for us and our DL is just not good enough to consistently get pressure without blitzing.

For the first time in a long time we've got some speed at LB.  I bet we take some chances and send 5 or 6 often.

I bet we blitz our faces off.

I don't think blitzing is a good idea.  The only blitzing we should do is the occasional disguised blitz with a safety or a nickel back (Garrett).

Keep the Baylor Offense off the field as much as possible. Score more points than they do. Lather rinse repeat.

I mentioned this in another thread, apparently some see it as bad judgment. I see it as survival.

Find out where they are eating the night before or breakfast the morning of the game and poison his food.  Just enough to keep him off the field not kill him or anything.

And then drop a zone blitz when they least expect it.

Guys, we just held The U to 400 yards and forced Jacory "Jockstrap" Harris to throw an interception. Is there a color for "not concerned"? Purple with 1980s stripes, you say? Well, color me that.

Hey everyone, check out the sarcasm from the big city elitist trying to big time the earnest small town bumpkins that love their university.  Sure it makes him feel successful, but its real purpose is to paper over the insecurity that follows the stench of his small-town past whenever he is around his big city friends.  This is revenge for the "oh" and smile that accompanies the disclosure of his alma mater, the stain that cannot be washed away.  The shame.

Well we like who we are felix rex.  We like it just fine.  We don't aspire to put on airs and knell at the foot of our obtrusive government overlords.  We prefer a life of liberty and the comforts afforded in a true community of our peers.

Everytime I shake someone's hand out here, I'm worried they'll notice the rough calluses still ridged along the top of my palm, like five unrelenting witnesses who shred right through the warm towel of my crab dinner persona, clinging accussingly to each tell-tale crease and corner.  And I smile and laugh and toss back cocktails with names of girls I wish I'd dated or guys I probably beat up "back home", all the while wondering if they really mean it when they say "everyone out here is working to retire to a ranch and hell, Kansas, you were born on third." this last comment is invariably followed by lots of back-slapping as we return to our menus. Do they really want my advice on the pros and cons of each cut of meat? They say its like me asking about wine. But sometimes I think it feels more like asking their blue ribbon pony to stamp out the answers to simple addition problems while they applaud and immediately double-check each answer on a smart phone, exchanging mirthful, silent nods about the engaging yet reductive charm of such bucolic talents.

Gotta pick your poison, and I think we should try to take away the pass and make him run. They're obviously emphasizing the pass with him this season, so maybe throw something different at him and see if he can adjust. Maybe something like the 3-man rush max zone...although that will generate no pressure on him whatsoever. You gotta keep a spy on him if you do that, too. So maybe rush 3 down lineman, and use Arthur as a rover who either rushes or else spies Griffin.

Some guys are just so talented that a scheme isn't enough.  You must have the talent to match them.  We need to get pressure with a 3 or 4 man rush.  We need 3 linebackers that RG3 can't outrun. And we need very good corners.

Probably won't blitz too much, and prob. a good thing.  Prob do a contain on the edges and dont give open lanes in the line.

Did Miami expose our safeties?  Not really.  Miami finally popped Miller from 60 yards out and that changed things up a little.  Safeties moved up closer to assist to keep that from repeating.  We were FAR more fearful of Miller than balls over the top couresty of Harris.

The difference this week will be that baylor's running game is not Miami's running game.  Miami's running game will scare the sh_t out of everybody they face.  Baylor's will not.

Safeties back....blitz, but choose appropriate times to blitz.  Spy with DEs and a LB.  Pressure this week is not as important as containing RG3 when he scrambles and limiting successful deep balls.  See Oklahoma State last year vs. Baylor.  OSU had an average defense...no better than we are this year.  Keep it in front...play to your strengths which for us and OSU last year was LBs who can make plays in space and safeties who excel in cover 2.

A serious run threat gives us issues....RG3 and Baylor are not Leach-Tech style passing game.

Then take the air out of the ball and control the clock.  Run for 350-400 yards and let RG3 sit and watch.

I was going to say mix up a lot of zone coverages and take turns spying.  Chose a few zone blitzes here and there.

However, I would not...NOT...send the house at any point, ever.  We'll run on Baylor.  We'll score on Baylor.  We'll probably frustrate them with the crowd.  We win this game by making them kick inside of the red zone.  We lose by letting them score outside of it.

3-man rush max zone is just stupid... which we will probably do.. WE use to do that crap all the time against TT and they would slice and dice us like Bobby Flay.  3 man gets us no pressure and if he decides to run there is no one there to stop him.  Now if you are rushing four and blitzing all the time and putting him on his ass everytime he throws he is going to start rushing and feeling the pressure.  he will make bad throws and we will interecept.. but like I said, we will probably do a 3 man rush and watch him shred us like cheese...

While fully understanding that K-State didn't want Harris running around all over the place back there, so there was a decided effort to keep him in the pocket, there's no way a 3 man rush from this K-State defense gets any kind of pressure.

Plus, who here can be impressed with any blitz package that Chris Cosh has designed since being back at K-State??

Sometimes, you know the hurricane is coming.  You can't stop it.  You can't run from it.  You have to board up your windows and ride it out and hope to God you don't get blown away.

Well, Baylor will get their yards.  They'll have big plays.  They're going to have 20+ yard pass plays in bunches.  What we can do is stop their run game with a limited number of people and drop a lot of guys back to stop the big plays.  That's why Hatter suggests the deep zone.  Once we get them in a shorter field, we can condense it with our zone and make it harder for Griffin to exploit weaknesses, and we'll most likely be able to hold their run game with minimal front seven support.  We will most likely be able to drop five or six guys into coverage and man up on the receivers.

Get Griffin into the South End Zone.  Crank up the noise.  Mix up the zone.  Hope to God he throws a pick.

Hope to God he throws a pick.
first off agreed, secondly i think if we play deep zone we are gonna get gashed for 20-30 yds a play, dudes that good and his receivers arent bad either

1) spy
2) deep zone

1) yes, specifically arthur and tre

I'd rather have them gain 600 yards of offense and give up 34 points than give up 600 yards and 49 points.

Because I feel pretty confident we'll end up scoring at least 38 points.

Yes.

Griffin is the best player in the country right now.  He has a 236 passing efficiency rating.  He's averaging over ten yards per play on offense.  He'll get yards.

Stop him from getting points.

Im going to start the "Bend then when you think we might break smash his knee crowd"

And there is almost no chance we get pressure on him with anything less than 5 pass rushers judging from the game saturday.  Good thing their run game cant hold the U's jock strap.

I'm in the hit him in the legs crowd too. But only if done discretely ala Pollard on Brady.

We've done this before, recently. Concussing Colt McCoy and starting a run of dominance over lil' bro Tejas.  It's time we do the same to Baylor.

We are helped tremendously this year compared to last simply by having Brown, Walker, and Lamur at LB to run down Griffin and Baylor's RBs. IMHO you have to limit their running game first and eliminate the big runs. Miller's TD vs Miami is the only run we've allowed over 20 yards this year. Then you do what you can against the pass, keep Griffin in the pocket as much as possible, and when you have opportunities to hit him make sure you do. The post that said limit red zone opportunities to FGs is a big one too. Baylor will not have the ability nor the speed on defense that Miami had, so I think we should be able to put up plenty of points.

Rush 10 and drop Arthur into coverage to pick 6 him if he gets a pass off

I like your style.

Did Miami expose our safeties?  Not really.

Hartman got burned repeatedly in the second half.

We were loading the box to stop the run. I wouldn't call that exposing the safeties, so much as having a defensive scheme that was taken advantage of.

Collectively, do we have the fastest set of linebackers in the country?  I looked through Baylor's opponents and a few others like Miami, LSU, and Texas last night and we're faster than all of them.

If calling the RCPD is the plan, just send up two 19 year olds with booze. Much more likely to respond/arrest/taze/beat the crap out of him.

Getting a lead early is key too.  If we can get a 14 pt cushion and keep pounding the rungame, it will help out a lot.  If we win the toss we need to receive barring any crazy wind conditions.

I also think we are gonna win, BTW.

I don't know.  We need 2ys to step up big time imo.  He's the biggest guy in our secondary and Baylor's got a ton of tall wideouts.

if we are getting beat repeatedly over the middle i say we put a defensive backfield of chapman malone ty garret and hartman in a nickel package, and rotate around one of these people(preferably not hartman) at nickel, problem is disguising it though

Tysyn will be fine unless Cosh is dumb enough to put him on an island in single coverage.

Cosh is taking credit for the goal line stand....will he take credit if RG3 rips the secondary for 350+?
