I like bierocks that the Mennonites in SC Kansas make but Runza is gross.

Bierocks are awful. In Garden City, they're so ubiquitous they serve(d) them for school lunch.

I would on very rare occasions receive them for school lunch in South-Central Kansas (aka, Western Kansas, according to this board). Haven't had one in at least 20 years, but I think I'd enjoy one if I did.

BLEU BUFFALO KETTLE CHIPS

Grilled diced chicken and kettle chips tossed in regular wing sauce topped with white cheddar and bleu cheese crumbles. Served with bleu cheese dressing.

Runza is salt filled trash but homemade bierocks are amazingly delicious.

Beef/cabbage ones for dinner then make some ham/egg/cheese for breakfast bierocks. Best part is they freeze pretty good so you can just make 20 and throw them in the freezer for later.

We got them at school and my mom made them, of course, much better.  Agree on runza tasting terrible; they are a Russian form of bierock made with sauerkraut instead of cabbage, otherwise just a copy.

Doesn't a pierogi have potatoes? Bierock has cabbage? Dumplings differ in the bread primarily? They're all variations of each other? Arepas, Pupusas and Gorditas are their Latin American cousins? Samosas are Indian versions?

Have we discussed verenike in this thread? "Low German" / Mennonite food found in SC KS. They are flat dumplings filled with a cottage cheese mixture and served covered with ham gravy. There is a restaurant in Newton (The Breadbasket) that serves them as part of their German buffet on Friday and Sat nights. I'm crazy about them.

You can get bierocks at Dillons/Kroger in the deli.  They are cold so you need to warm them up in the oven/toaster oven.  Do not microwave, they will end up like hot pockets as the inside will be a way too hot and the bread chewy.  They are small so I usually get three for me and a couple for Mrs. Katdaddy.
