The Hoskins-Julian Wright match-up KILLED us Hoskins plays better against defenders like Maric/Kaun etc. slow white guys that he can isolate and draw fouls on. Julian was fast/long enough to kill all that and Hoskins doesn't play defense and was totally overmatched. PLUS ku's swipe at anything that moves defense really messed up his dribble-penetrate effect. He did hit two threes, so I guess we should be loving that. His free-throw shooting while irrelevant, was poor.
The Martin-Rush matchup KILLED us No excuses. This was awful. Rush shut Martin down, completely. Rush also hit every open look he got.
Bennet/Colon/Martin/Hoskins vs. Darnell Jackson, Sasha Kaun, Darrell Arthur and Julian Wright
26 points on 6-18 shooting 9 boards 35 points on 19-29 shooting 28 boards
Jermaine Maybank and Blake Young combined for 34 points and 9 rebounds.
Akeem Wright: 0 rebounds, 10 minutes.
In this game we needed Bennett to stay out of foul trouble and control the lane, forcing ku to hit jump shots, Akeem Wright to play lockdown D on Wright/Rush and for Martin to have a good game shooting and hitting the offensive boards with Hoskins drawing some fouls of dribble penetration.
None of it happened and the game was over almost as soon as it started. Huggins has shown an ability to get this team to play above their heads for stretches, the key is to not get their heads to follow their play skyward like what happened on this last win streak. Hopefully this works out because we can't afford to lose these next two extremely winnable games.
