    shame on you, non-believers
We simply caught ku at the wrong time. When Rush is hitting and Wright remembers that he's athletic as hell, you have to pick your poison.

Go zone -> invite a Rush bombing raid.
Go man -> invite a Wright raping in the paint.

Now I agree that we didn't even execute our D last night regardless, but what could Hugs have done from the sideline that he didn't try?

I think that this is the key point.

Maybe Huggs got outcoached, maybe he didn't, but what did it matter?

    warm up the EMAW
The Hoskins-Julian Wright match-up KILLED us  Hoskins plays better against defenders like Maric/Kaun etc.  slow white guys that he can isolate and draw fouls on.  Julian was fast/long enough to kill all that and Hoskins doesn't play defense and was totally overmatched.  PLUS ku's swipe at  anything that moves defense really messed up his dribble-penetrate effect.  He did hit two threes, so I guess we should be loving that.  His free-throw shooting while irrelevant, was poor.

The Martin-Rush matchup KILLED us  No excuses.  This was awful.  Rush shut Martin down, completely.  Rush also hit every open look he got.

Bennet/Colon/Martin/Hoskins vs. Darnell Jackson, Sasha Kaun, Darrell Arthur and Julian Wright
26 points on 6-18 shooting  9 boards                        35 points on 19-29 shooting    28 boards

Jermaine Maybank and Blake Young combined for 34 points and 9 rebounds.

Akeem Wright:  0 rebounds, 10 minutes.

In this game we needed Bennett to stay out of foul trouble and control the lane, forcing ku to hit jump shots,  Akeem Wright to play lockdown D on Wright/Rush and for Martin to have a good game shooting and hitting the offensive boards with Hoskins drawing some fouls of dribble penetration.

None of it happened and the game was over almost as soon as it started.  Huggins has shown an ability to get this team to play above their heads for stretches, the key is to not get their heads to follow their play skyward like what happened on this last win streak.  Hopefully this works out because we can't afford to lose these next two extremely winnable games.

ksufanscopycat my friends.

Cartier's problem is he's so used to having an offense that does everything it can to get him a ball, he can't function in an offense that demands you use athletic prowess and ability to get the ball, particularly against a more talented team like ku.

However, someone needs to tell Huggs you can't have a bunch of guys just standing around against teams like ku, the offense most assuredly needs more motions, but that's also driven by having better guards as well.

Cartier sucked last night, it's like he decided to just go passive.   Ganja train??

Some of those points by ku(fastbreak, transition) were created because we didn't make shots - open shots.

Cartier was bad the first half, but rebounded for a better 2nd half.  He attacked much better in the 2nd and made 8 trips to the FT line.  Granted, he couldn't hit a jump shot and we needed him in the 1st half, but he competed in the 2nd.

Cartier was soft in the first half, as was Akeem.  Stewart was very unsure of himself.  Harris missed an early shot or two and disappeared as he can easily do when he doesn't make an early 3 pointer.  Hoskins did a little but, as evidenced by sitting the second half, Huggins was not pleased with how he competed.  Bottom line, only Maybank attacked with aggression and played like he was unafraid and willing to challenge ku.  I take that back, Blake Young also played that way.

Huggins is saying all the "look at how great they are" comments to the media.  Behind closed doors, he is probably seething.  Our D sucked, we got punished on the boards, and we were tentative on offense.  All characteristics of earlier this year and characteristics that Huggins will not tolerate.  If we don't come out and attack them hard in The Fred, I'll be very surprised.  Huggins has too much resolve to allow us to do any different.

ku's ability to come out in the 1st and 2nd half of nearly EVERY game hitting 60-70% of their shots is just baffling to me...

KSU needed just a FEW buckets to keep things from snowballing last night....and couldn't get them.

Luckily Jermaine Maybank put up 26 points, or this game wouldn't have been within 40.

Oh, and yes, tHuggins was outcoached.

honest question.

Luckily Brandon Rush came up with 18 points or this game would have been closer.

Crazy how that happens when a team of pretty much nobodies is playing a team of McD AA's who are trying to avoid falling further back in the conference race.

If anyone can recognize a coach getting outcoached, it'd be a ku fan.  They experience it in March.
