I wonder about your 2 dt's. The abana fellow seems like more of a end to me. Kind of an adam carriker type. Hold the point of attack, play the run but also rush the passer. That is pretty tall and light for a defensive tackle in the big 12.
as for the other guy? 6'1, 260.?
he might be a pretty stout NT in 2 years.
No, it isn't. Carriker was just big for a DE in D-1. Most DT's are not as big as you believe them to be. And plenty of NT's in Stewart's size range starting for GREAT programs. Thanks for playing...
OU DT depth chart in '06:
DT 90 Steven Coleman
6-4 299 Jr.
68 Carl Pendleton
6-5 269 Jr.
DT 97 Cory Bennett
6-2 278 So.
96 DeMarcus Granger 6-3 300 RFr.
Texas DT depth chart in '06:
NT: Derek Lokey
6-2 280 Jr.
Roy Miller 6-2 295 So.
DT: Frank Okam 6-5 320 Jr.
Thomas Marshall
6-6 290 Jr.
Now, these two programs are the most talented in the conference yet they each start an Xzavier Stewart-like NT's in Lokey(who played quite a bit as a 260lb freshman in 04) and former 2 star recruit Corey Bennett at OU(who is already an "undersized" 2 year starter). No need to show that Marshall, Pendelton, and Coleman are very similar size-wise to Abana.
USC started a 6-2 285 NT.
I could go on and on w/ examples. The starting DT's for USC's amazing 2004 defense and national championship team were 6-0 285 Mike Patterson and 6-4 285 Shaun Cody.
FYI Xzavier Stewart is 275 right now according to his coach.
anything else?
