note:

I will be surprised if Murphy is not starting. He'll get pushed by Lamark (and maybe Hogan) but that dude has the speed we needed.

Nelson
Pierce

Murphy
Wilson
Hogan

Lamark
Gonzalez

On paper, we got instant impact at every position that we needed.  OL, LB, WR, you could even throw Abana there at DL.  I don't know what else you could ask for.  Next year we can really focus on qb, LB, and DL.

true frosh o-lineman don't usually do much in this kind of offense you are running.  especially since most of your o-line class is a couple years away from even being the right size to play o-line in the big 12.

Oh really?

Aufner 6'7'' 260
Drinkgern 6'7'' 270
Roepke 6'7'' 298
Alesana 6'6'' 318
Freeze 6'6'' 270
Liu 6'6'' 325
Sims 6'6'' 288

Course I think Aufner may be our only legit high school lineman (seriously, it's not hard for a guy like Aufner to gain 30 pounds), but our juco guys look pretty solid.

Maybe some talented guys that other schools were actually interested in?

Millions more where it does. Not many guys slip through the cracks anymore. If you have a recruiting class full of guys no one else was interested in, it's possible that you might have a hidden gem or two that none of the other 100+ teams in Div. I, the scouting services, or the sports media have noticed.

It's far more likely that you just have a bunch of guys that no one else wanted because:

1) The guys you have just aren't very good, and
2) You couldn't land anyone better.

Didn't you guys take like 33 recruits in this years class? Funny that you're excited about two of them. How many of the rest are one or two stars that are longshots to ever contribute?

You were talking about guys who could be "diamond in the rough" type players.  I'm not excited about most of the other 2 stars, but I am looking forward to Guidry, Tigner, Matthews, and Mack.  I'm also anxious to see how some of our placements will do.

This is a good not great class.  I think the real strength is in the JC players we got some good ones at need positions.  Chandler, Abana, Patterson, Alesna, Murphey, Pierce etc we got some JC guys that can be impact players.

With the high school kids I think we got some nice solid kids that can develop for down the road.  Lamark Brown and maybe a couple of others should help right away but I think most of these guys probaby need to redshirt.

Last year's class was excellent and that isn't going off of recruiting rankings that is going off of what those guys came in and did on the field last year.  We had a bunch of first year guys make instant impacts in the program last year.   The one thing Prince has done with these first two classes is he's built depth at all positions and evened out the roster.  Going into next year I don't really see a position that is real thin depth wise nor do I see on that has too many players clustered up.  The roster is spread pretty evenly and that is a good thing.  When Prince took over there were some good players on the team but there was some glaring holes depth wise.  Those are the kind of things that recruiting rankings can't really measure when evaluting our class and the kind of things simpleton Husker fans don't seem to understand.

I'm impressed by K-State's class.  It looks like Prince realized that some of the earlier commitments weren't worthy of a Division 1 scholarship.

The overall talent level isn't overwhelming or anything, but at least we addressed some needs.  IE: Linebacker, D-lineman(especially our two DTs), wideouts, but especially OFFENSIVE LINEMEN.  We needed those guys in the worst way.  The fact that they're coming from JUCO's is nice for the fact that they'll be more likely to contribute immediately if nothing else.

That's the most important thing:  addressing your current needs and establishing a solid offensive line.  If K-State can get a good offensive line, you guys will be back in business.  ku did the same thing, IMO.  We filled needs and brought in some guys who can help right from the start.

1. Terence Newman

3. Terry Pierce
4. Rock Cartwright
5. Jon McGraw

Top 5 KSU/NFL players that "nobody" was interested in.

I wonder about your 2 dt's.  The abana fellow seems like more of a end to me.  Kind of an adam carriker type.  Hold the point of attack, play the run but also rush the passer.  That is pretty tall and light for a defensive tackle in the big 12.

as for the other guy?  6'1, 260.????

he might be a pretty stout NT  in 2 years.

No, it isn't.  Carriker was just big for a DE in D-1.  Most DT's are not as big as you believe them to be.  And plenty of NT's in Stewart's size range starting for GREAT programs.  Thanks for playing...

OU DT depth chart in '06:

DT  90 Steven Coleman  6-4  299  Jr.
   68 Carl Pendleton  6-5  269  Jr.
DT  97 Cory Bennett  6-2  278  So.
   96 DeMarcus Granger  6-3  300  RFr.

Texas DT depth chart in '06:
NT: Derek Lokey 6-2 280 Jr.
Roy Miller 6-2 295 So.

DT: Frank Okam 6-5 320 Jr.
Thomas Marshall 6-6 290 Jr.

Now, these two programs are the most talented in the conference yet they each start an Xzavier Stewart-like NT's in Lokey(who played quite a bit as a 260lb freshman in 04) and former 2 star recruit Corey Bennett at OU(who is already an "undersized" 2 year starter).  No need to show that Marshall, Pendelton, and Coleman are very similar size-wise to Abana.

USC started a 6-2 285 NT.

I could go on and on w/ examples.  The starting DT's for USC's amazing 2004 defense and national championship team were 6-0 285 Mike Patterson and 6-4 285 Shaun Cody.

FYI Xzavier Stewart is 275 right now according to his coach.

anything else?

why yes, there is something else.  how come your coach offers kids and then accpets their commiments only to stab them in the back?  and since your bragging about yuour dt, how many schol offers did he have?

thanks

I was "bragging" aout our DT's?  Reading is fundamental.

I posted ht-wt of DT's at the top programs in the Big 12 and the top program in the country(USC).  I didn't realize making a comparison of ht-wt to what our kid's ht-wt was "bragging"?

LOL on the "how many offers did he have"...what does that prove?  When has it proved anything?  Abana had an offer from Texas A&M and a Pac-10 school.  Stewart, despite qualifying issues, had an offer from a Big 10 program and likely would have had more if he could get into Big 10 schools.

How many offers did Lokey or Corey Bennett have?  Bennett had 3 and Lokey had one from North Texas other than UT.  Both start for programs better than Nebraska or K-State.

stunner, got to love the "stab in the back talk" from beaks and huskers.

Cuba and Drinkgern have both been interviewed by both radio and newspapers and both have said openly they like the idea of greyshirting given their situations.

And Adonis was dropped by KSU due to what his coach said "they didn't think he would qualify".

That Prince...evil lurks among us in purple.
