just wasn't going to work after we turned the ball over and got behind.  Prince's biggest mistake might have been not wanting to try to stretch the field with Figurs out.  I really don't think he trusted the rest of his WR core to do the same things Figurs could do, thus the gameplan.

I also thought the 2 early TOs were tough on Josh.  I think the pick on what had been our bread and butter off the boot pass really hurt and was then magnified by the fumble when Josh brushed the pulling guard with the ball.  He wasn't the same after that.  Those two drives up until the TOs we were moving the ball and really mixed things up well and then just really went stagnant.  Part of that was ku adjusting their defense to our gameplan and part was momentum going kus way as they built their lead.

Cornish getting untracked hurt us, but he wouldn't have beat us by himself.  If we had protected the ball and forced Meier to beat us we would've been in good shape.  Meier was aweful for the most part, but Cornish was great.  Good job by ku in the trenches to get him going after it became obvious Meier wasn't going to get it done with his arm.

Just a disappointing day for the Cats.

Prince did a great job and a review of the tape will bear this out.  He can't make the plays for the guys and especially in Josh's case we know that he (Josh) is capable of executing at a high level.  You can't put this one on the coaches.  My guess is some of our young guys were really excited about the Texas win and weren't focused early in the week.  They are kids.  It happens.
Once you get past the ethics, the rest is easy.

In his post game prince said that this team didn't handle winning very well which leads me to believe that some guys may have overlooked this game or not had good practices etc.

a few random thoughts about defensive game plan . . .

is kerrie meier always that bad throwing . . . he threw some floaters a few times that didn't land near anyone. it didn't seem to hurt to just man up the corners.

part of cornish's success was a result of kyle williams leaving the game with the injury. we had our 4th string safety playing for 3+ quarters. he didn't do much in run support, but i really dont know if the schemes would've allowed it since ku seemed to be spreading us out at times with mutliple receiver sets.

Watts, Herndon, Hollis, and Williams were all out injured. That left Erker and Carney, with pretty much no one to give them a rest. Talk about a baptism by fire for CC.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
I would have liked to see more draws early.

ku seemed determined to limit our bread-and-butter rollout five yard pass, and brought the house at the right times.  We failed to adjust.

Defensive gameplan was bad.

Offensive gameplan was bad.  Patton was always getting 4 or 5 yards, and multiple times he pushed throw for 8-9-10 yards.  They had a hard time tackling him.  He should've carried the ball 15 more times yesterday.

No gameplan in college football can overcome 6 TOs, especially when they lead to direct scores and short fields for the opponent.  Especially when they occur early and you get  a 2 score deficit on the road.  Especially when you go into a game already banged up, you don't have your best deep threat at WR, and immediately you lose your 3rd starting secondary player in the 1st quarter.  This was a TEAM loss to a solid football team that due to a culmination of events; mistakes by a freshman QB, shoddy tackling, a couple poor calls, injuries, a few questionable play calls, and an opponent who had a good plan, played more physical and made more plays, just to name a few.

I usually don't complain much about officials, and they were pretty poor, probably both ways.  I will only say if you are allowed to "block" like ku was in a zone scheme, there is no reason for every team not to run zone in college footbal.

i agree that prince was scared to keep the vertical game in the plan with figurs out.  ku knew it, and planned for it, and got turnovers by anticipating that we wouldn't go deep.

the whole thing made me sick.

leon patton, however, did manage to make me smile.

Players win or lose games.

We lost too many good players.

Lots of terrible.  Giving up 30 points on 40 yards of offense is terrible.  Not taking advantage of your defense holding ku to 3 points on their next 7 possessions after Patton's TD is terrible.  Shoddy tackling is terrible.  That's just to name a few.  Horrible team loss, period.
