Just testing out the new screen name, and a question for Rusty and others who have lived in multiple locations as a non-student:
What are the major differences between living in KC (or wherever you lived before becoming "michigancat") and living in Michigan?
I've lived in several places, and I must say that my life is pretty much the same wherever I've been. I have the house I want, with the stuff I need to make me happy. I'm past the partying stage of my life, so the nightlife really doesn't have any effect on me one way or the other. Vacations are still vacations, and going from Beaumont to wherever is not that much different that going from any other place without an international airport to wherever, and IAH is only a 30 minute jaunt with multiple scheduled flights.
What am I missing? As a one percenter, I definitely want to know if it is possible to make my life better without sacrificing the things that make my life as great as it already is.
Big differences (at least between michigan in KC) is that people in this part of Michigan are generally assholes, and the entertainment and employment options are severely limited, mainly because of population. I don't think KC is significantly different from any metro w/ 2 million or so people, though.
I mean, I'm sure your house and job or rad, but a one-percenter could no doubt have a better house and job in a place like KC (or Austin, or Houston, or even Omaha), plus a lot more valuable and frequent interesting experiences if you didn't live in small town USA.
