http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2010/01/08/south-florida-cuts-ties-with-coach-jim-leavitt/

TAMPA, Fla. -- University of South Florida football coach Jim Leavitt's tenure with the program is over, FanHouse has learned.

The only coach the Bulls have had in the program's 13-year history leaves after an investigation that was initiated after a FanHouse report that stated Leavitt grabbed sophomore Joel Miller by the throat and hit the walk-on twice in the face Nov. 21 at halftime of the Louisville game.

Leavitt was told he was not returning Friday morning in a meeting with USF president Judy Genshaft.

Findings of the investigation into allegations will be released later today.

Meanwhile, South Florida assistants were ordered off the road to meet with Genshaft and athletic director Doug Woolard.

So, let me get this straight.  Leavitt available, Mangino available.....If we can get Stoops to fire Venables for some unforgivable OU sin (or God willing Mike or Bob committ some super unforgivable) we can get the actual good band back together instead of the sh1tty band we currently have back together!

feel bad for the guy with all he did for that school building that program from nothing but at this point it seems like a no brainer to bring him back.  with the florida ties and already being a former def coordinator here...we need to get this done asap.

Doubt he would be interested in coming to KSU as anything but a HC......BUT WHAT IF HE IS!?

No Snyder needs to step down and we need Leavitt to take over as head coach. He calmed the waters already.

Yes indeed.  And we could also get former OU offensive coordinator Mike Leach.

imagine HCIW would be a big part of him taking any asst job here.  really hate the HCIW thing, should be kept under the table if thats the case or just done immediately like u are suggesting.

Of all of Snyder's former assistants he is the one that considers Snyder his mentor.  At this point he's not likely to be a head coach next season (most all jobs are now filled) if he wants to coach somewhere next season I would think KSU would be high on his list.

Coach Leavitt didn't want the job the first time because he didn't want to replace the legend, so what makes you think he'll want to replace the legend the second time?

Ivan Maisel broke the story on SportsCenter and basically said that some players said that Coach Leavitt instructed them to lie about what may or may not have happened between Coach and the kid. So basically it wasn't the crime but the cover up that got him fired. Then there was another player who they quoted on ESPNnews as saying that it was all B.S.

Well, he wasn't unemployed the first time (minor difference)

Agree he was coaching a program he built from scratch in his hometown.  That is no longer an option for him.  Also now that he's been fired for player abuse it's not like big name schools are going to come knocking down his door.  If he had the chance to replace Snyder at this point I'm sure he'd jump at it.

If the allegations are true, it only strengthens the reasons to hire Leavitt as a DC.  First, as a DC he would be able to show Cosh where his balls should be.  Second, if all those allegations are true, I don’t think Leavitt will be getting a head job very soon (so he’d stay at KSU).  Lastly, and most importantly, when Snyds retires, if those allegations are true of Leavitt, it would be the out that Currie would need as to why to not hire Leavitt as the next head coach.  It’s almost too good to be true

The player even said it wasn't true and that coach only grabbed his shoulder pads to get him motivated.

Untrue.  He was going to take the job, but his wife did not want to move to Kansas.
