would think that Cosh coordinated the D in 04/05, though I will admit most of us would like to block Bobby Elliott from our memories.

welcome back 04/05 defense.
To be fair, this year pretty much was the equivalent of our '04 and '05 defenses (40th overall).

Those defenses were ranked 43rd and 45th in total D, respectively, and just seemed a lot worst than they actually were given the fact we were ranked in the top 6 for seven years in a row prior to that.

Completely retarded statement.

Actually, the last place losers of 04' - 05' were much closer to 07' - 08' in points allowed, at the end of the day, the only defensive stat that matters.

By all means post-rationalize this bush league move to promote Cosh to sole DC, though.  I expect nothing less, Special.

couple of things on cosh:

1 - he's been soley responsible for, at best, average defenses.  been part of horrible and average defenses at ksu.
2 - who the hell has he recruited in his 3+ years at KSU (that wasn't directly related to him, and even the, gmafb)?

conclusion:  sucksville and Cosh is the mayor.

The lug nuts on the wheels are becoming loose. I will just hope that Cosh had a "I could've had a V8 moment" - smacked his forehead when he heard VK's pearls of wisdom and has become awesome.

It is overall a little depressing that with the news that OBz was returning - I got a little worked up with the OC from Utah and VK on the D and kind of  :excited: but now we are reduced to Cosh and Dimel. and now I am more  :crybaby:

Looks pretty accurate to me.

And Vic made the 09' leap from an 08' defense that statistically was one of the worst in school histroy and all of Div. 1 football last year.

The Bobby Elliot/Cosh two year debacle came off of a fracking Big XII Title.

I almost remember like yesterday the tards were saying we wouldn't miss a beat with Bobby Elliot after Bielema cut and ran for Wisconsin.

Weird.  :scared:

If you look at overall  ppg given up, the '04 defense gave up 30.6 which was the worst since fracking 1989 (31.7).  And the '05 defense gave up 27.7 which outside of 04 was the worst since 1989.  and that was all before offenses actually started putting up insane numbers league wide.  cosh is dogsh*t and snyds is dogsh*t for allowing  dogsh*t coaches like Cosh, Clements, Del, Smith, Mo, and even Rahne back onto his staff after they wrecked it the first time around.  I half expect Snyds to name Greg Peterson as DB coach.

Merry Christmas

Eff it, let's go ahead and bring Elliot back.

Might as well complete the circle and at least it would provide some comedy and speed up Snyder's second retirement.

No that's not the only defensive stat that matters and if you knew an ounce about football you would understand how retarded that statement was.

This year our TOP was second nationally. Yes, second. In '05 we were 49, as a basis for comparison. That means that this season we ran the ball, kept our offense on the field, kept our defense off and let them rest, allowing fewer possessions for the opponent to score on us with, a luxury those '04 and '05 defenses didn't have, and, despite that, those '04 and '05 defenses were comparable to this year's in total yards allowed.

The high point totals given up in '04 and '05 were more a result of the large amounts of turnovers given up and in inopportune locations on the field than the defense allowing it. Like remember how in '04 we couldn't field a punt to save our lives (Sproles with multiple muffs), interceptions/fumbles in our own territory, punts/kickoffs returned for TDs, etc.

Like, what if in 2005, we were ranked 107th in yards penalized or 104th in turnovers lost (28 total) or 112th in fumbles lost (tied for 2nd last in NCAA at 16 fumbles), all things allowing the other team to score more easily despite having little to do with our defense's performance.

Completely bush league statement by Wabashroll.

    The very best.

The others are fun to look at, sure.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

And it doesn't tell the whole story either. What if we punted the ball 7 times and 4 times it got returned for a TD, allowing 28 points, but our defense only gave up 3 points in the game and 100 yards total.

That would mean our D gave up 3 points and 100 total yards, a great defensive performance, but the score would read that there were 31 points allowed, 28 of which had nothing to do with defense and everything to do with special teams.

It's why total yards is the used as the measuring stick for total defense and not points allowed.
