is a disaster come true for ku, if it happens.

Dude is a Jesus freak, meaning that players with tainted histories such as John Randle, Nick Reid, Aquib Talib, Dezmon Briscoe, Jocques Crawford and Bradley McDougal never even get a sniff from ku with Gill as the coach. Where in the hell would they be if Mangino had not recruited the fringes?  They got where they got (for one season) because the guy pushed, pulled, gnawed away at the edges, pulled every single rabbit out of the hat he possibly could, but Gill isn't going to do that.  Gill is going to try and do things "the right way" (i.e., Dan McCarney).  It simply cannot be done at ku.  Period.

Good news is, Gill wouldn't be able to dirty recruit old ballz the way the 'gina did in his early years.  Gill would point his guns directly at Nebraska, hitting the areas he recruited while with the skers.  Further, IF he has ANY success at all, Nebraska is going to take him off their hands in a heartbeat.

It must be really, really hard to admit when your AD cannot re-hire 2 guys he formerly employed, cannot get a sniff out of names like Harbaugh or Kelly or Nutt, and even marginal guys like Fedora and Sumlin tell you they aren't interested.

Smells a lot like Terry Allen if you ask me.

FWIW, ku is adept at marketing, and will pitch Lawrence as some type of cultural mecca.  You and I know it's BS, and the the town always reeks of raw sewage, but people that don't know better might get suckered into that inbred hellhole.  In other words, ku may be able to attract a coach because they are much better liars than the powers at KSU.

That was back when KSU was flyover country.  The NABF & AA changed all that.

The idea that there was a lack of interest in the K-State job both after Snyder and Prince is laughable. The interest from well-qualified coaches was not the problem, at all. After the 2005 season Jim Leavitt was at the airport in Tampa to fly to Manhattan to accept the job before USF boosters came in with a last-minute financial package to convince him to stay — he very much wanted to succeed Snyder. And after RP, it is no secret that Gary Patterson had agreed to be the next head coach of K-State before the Weef/Fitz tagteam stepped in and fracked it all up.
 
Those are two very successful coaches that both agreed to take the job. You should see the list of other coaches and high-profile coordinators that are now head coaches that were interested, it would blow your mind.

Compare that to ku, where the only person that even seems interested at all is a mediocre mid-major coach that no one wanted to hire anywhere even after the best season at Buffalo in their history in 2008. Its not even close, nor should it be based on the success of the two programs in the Internet age.

K-State's problem was always Jon Wefald — its why RP was hired, its why Snyder was rehired. Plain and simple. With him out of the way, when Snyder retires again I don't think you will see K-State hire some unproven coordinator from a middle of the road basketball school. You watch.

Crap I agree 100%.   K-State clearly had strong interest from both Patterson and Levitt and others until the Weefer screwed it all up again . . . didn't the guy learn anything from the Jim Wooldridge situation. . . apparently not.

That being said, the word is that Bill Snyder will still get to name a HCIW which frankly . . .

Well I am told that there won't be a named HCIW, but as with most things in life, that is always subject to change.
 

Common sense would indicate that a young AD looking to make a name for himself would view the hiring of one of the 2 most visible positions in any AthDept as a way to punch his ticket, whether that be to more money, more fame, more love or more Cabelas gift cards.

And based on the track record already, don't think ADJC wants to entrust much to those who were in the KSU AthDept when he arrived.

More high profile programs were not knocking down Bill Snyder's door after four years at KSU nor should they have been.  Gill might turn out to be a good coach but it's pretty much a crap shoot at this point.   He hasn't even shown he can win consistently in the MAC much less make the step up and do it in the big 12.  

Gill's record looks just like any middle of the road MAC coach.  Why not just hire one of them?  Normally mid major coaches that move up to the BCS do it because they stand out at the mid major level.

Gill also interviewed for the head coaching position at Auburn University, losing out to Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik, who had a 5-19 record. On December 15, former NBA superstar and Auburn player Charles Barkley, who had previously endorsed Gill for the position, criticized Auburn's passing over of Gill in favor of Chizik, saying "race was the No. 1 factor. You can say it's not about race, but you can't compare the two résumés and say [Chizik] deserved the job. Out of all the coaches they interviewed, Chizik probably had the worst résumé."[6]

The following day, Buffalo announced that Gill had agreed to a contract extension and a raise[7]. Gill's contract now runs through 2013 and makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in the MAC.

Seems like we may have a mutual friend. Had this same argument with my friend who happens to be a die-hard Nebraska football fan, but attends ku and "follows" their sports.
