The key words are "incentive" and "accountability." Anybody who has taken economics or read freakenomics knows that behavior is driven by incentive. Pre-Curry, there was no incentive to go watch the Western Illinois game on a Sunday. Now, there is. Plain and Simple. Just watched it happen yesterday.
Also, by creating group registration, friends are accountable to their friends to not let the ball drop and be lazy. Peer pressure is powerful. No? And if somebody has no choice in the matter, they will have to find a replacement instead of just not going to the game.
