Hi Stewart, I'm a diehard K-State fan, but I have to know ... was the team always better than what the media thought and just needed a good leader in the coaching position, or is Bill Snyder really Houdini reincarnated?
-- Todd Searls, Broomfield, Colo.

Snyder has certainly made me look like an idiot. I said at the time that his rehiring reeked of desperation, and I wrote off the Wildcats as a long-term reclamation project when they opened the season by losing to Louisiana-Lafayette (as I assume most people did). But the ultimate sign of a good coach is when his team gets better throughout the course of a season, and here we are in early November looking at the very realistic possibility that K-State might play for the Big 12 title.

Obviously, these are not yet the Ell Roberson-Darren Sproles Wildcats, but they do exhibit many of the staples of Snyder's earlier teams. His defense is typically salty (20th nationally against the run), and his offensive star, not for the first time, is a juco transfer, running back Daniel Thomas. By no means is K-State a juggernaut. And the main concern I raised in my column last November still remains: What is K-State's long-term plan once Snyder re-retires? That aside, there's no denying that for a fan base that was so divided last year and a school that endured so much embarrassment last summer over its financial indiscretions, Snyder has provided the perfect shot in the arm.

"I will pay any referee to sit in the post and let somebody beat the crap out of him and see how he likes it, see how his back likes it, how his arms like it. Just because Mike is 6-8 and 260 pounds doesn't mean he doesn't hurt when he gets fouled." Craig Esherick

This is America, bro.  We have free speech and large portions of it.  Chillax.  If the dude wants to mock somebody else for being a complete asshat and doubting the greatest coach ever, that's his call. (pls ignore the fact that I'm being a total hypocrite by telling you what to do)

Oh yeah. We said repeatedly that we had no doubt Snyder would win while he was here, but that our concern lay beyond that.

But nooooooo, that meant we hated Bill Snyder, K-State, and babies.

I started a blog dedicated to firing Ron Prince:

http://princemustgo.blogspot.com/

And was a member of the planning and fundraising commitees for the flying banner that was to appear over BSFS should they not have announced his canning prior to the end of his last season.  So, in summary, you can take your terrible f^cking strawman post and shove it up your ass.

Don't miss the point here.  I don't think its silly for people to think a) should/could have had Patterson and b) that probably would've been a better long term hire than Snyder.  That is not unreasonable.  I'm fine with Snyder and trust that his successor this time around will be handled much better, but I also understand why people thought there were better choices, namely Patterson.

I agree that we should all start sucking each off because we aren't as sucky as we thought.  I'd also agree that, especially with this team being so dominant on both sides of the ball, we should just assume that we'll beat missouri and get to a bowl game.

I assume Snyder was our final option. I assume that with all the rumors and speculation about patterson that we at least contacted him about the job. What I am trying to say is that snyder is not the wrong choice if, however, he was the back up option.

Naturally. I got banned from the site I resuscitated because I was "too negative" about Wefald and Krause last summer/fall before all the stuff went down. Not gonna lie: I did enjoy going back there (incognito of course) after everything came out about Krausefald and reading all the "well well well, kougar was right!" posts.

Naturally, I never got one of those from catfan28.  :blindfold:

I don't disagree with that.

I just think the angst you see around here at times is not b/c we didn't try to hire Urban Meier or Mack Brown.  Its b/c it seemed like Patterson was a done deal and we messed it up.  But without him, getting Snyder is turning out to be a good deal, but I still think people are concerned about post-Snyder part 2 b/c post-Snyder part 1 was a disaster.

Agree that he was a perfect final option.  The bad thing is that he was the only option for the guy making the decision.  Patterson was ours if we wanted him (and by we I mean wefald).

I would like to hear your opinions on what it is that we do this time around (post-snyder part 2). New president, New AD.

My opinion is Coach Snyders goal is to right the ship and go after a big name this time(such as a gary patterson), not screw around with a no-name coordinator who "interviews well."

What do you think??

I'm sure Snyder won't want that to happen again.  I don't necessarily think he'll hand-pick the successor, but I think he'll be more involved in the process.  I think we have an advantage as well without Wefald/Krause having their hands involved with the decision.  Plus, it will likely be the first big thing of Curries tenure and I'm sure he'll want to do things right.

Imo, the premise that Snyds as any option other than him coaching until he dies, was/is retarded.  But let's assume that snyds and co get this thing up and running (i.e. consistently competing for championships)....all those effeciencies, all those recruiting ties, all those connections get eaten up with a coaching change (assuming we hire outside the staff).  New staff, new philosophies, new coaches, new programs, new offensive and defensive schemes, etc.  I'm not assuming that the next coach will suck, rather I'm just stating that the program's "stature" when a coach leaves has little to do with the next coach's success (see Michigan and Nebraska as examples)...the reverse of this is also true....so the thought that we "needed" snyder to calm the waters is and always will be retarded, imo.

remember the "no one will follow an legend" theory after Snyds retired v.1 as the reason no one respectable would coach at K-State?

now, what happens when we win the B12N, and Snyds legend grows bigger than it was back then (which has already begun happening).  and we end up with someone worse than Prince @ Snyds retires v.2   :runaway:

Snyds' legend grows like a mold, what the hell?

i hope we lose out for the next 4 seasons so we can get someone not afraid to follow a legend @ Snyds retires v.2

assuming we don't extend Snyds to another long term i mean

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.
