Scuba, I can't get anything past you, can I?

But how am I full of it? I'm not leading a witch hunt. What I do isn't going to affect Ron Prince's job status. My job is to cover the football program. If he's inconsistent with something as minor as this, what's to stop him from being inconsistent with something far bigger down the road?

Really, I wanted to hear his explanation for that. I didn't have a goal. It struck me after the 10th time he used the word "competition."

There you go again.  Yeah, you have some moral obligation to keep old Ron on the straight and narrow.  Doing it all for us fans, eh?  Not all of us are as stupid as you give us credit for.  Just admit it.  You were being a smart ass because you could.  Oh, that's right.  You can't admit that, because it would taint your journalistic integrety.

It's going to be fun times when Tyree Evans shows up at KSU.  It's going to happen, but you already know that, don't you?   JMart's ticket out of podunk Wichita.  I can see it now.  "So Tim....  I thought you said you weren't allowing Bob Huggins to recruit criminals.  What do you have to say for yourself?"  Fun times.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Sometimes I can't read Jeff Martin's stuff because I get so angry that I can't see.  I then usually recover my sight shortly after I puke.

You're a jackass if you don't think that if Evans signs and shows up next fall that a legitimate question would be "what changed in one year that Evans is now okay to recruit"?  The honest answer to that question would be "he's an amazing talent, but we had to wait a year to give ourselves an inch of moral ground to stand on so we could say that he's shown that he can be an upstanding citizen even though really nothing has changed".

Personally, I don't care if Evans does come here, but it's a legit question.

If someone is saying something, and doing another, wouldn't it be kind of stupid to just ignore it and act like nothing happened? And perhaps, instead of being angry that JMart is calling out people for their hypocrisy, you should be angry that Weiser and Prince are allowing him to be able to in the first place.
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

He more than agreed.  Fitz really questions RP's logic.  Where JMart left things to be inferred, Fitz just spells them out.  I guess Whitlocks are just popping up all over the place here.  Looks like ScubaSteve is Ron Prince's Ron Ziegler.

You hear that JMart?... thats Ksu fans telling you not to expose anything hypocritical about their head coach and his 'coachspeak'. If you 'think' about what Prince is saying than you're doing too much. It doesn't matter that what he says doesn't make sense. If you expose Prince's hypocricy than there can be no doubt... you must have some sort of agenda against Ksu. Its so obvious.

Scuba, you sound like a jackass. If a man is lying and everyone in the room knows it, don't be surprised if one of them calls him out on it. It was the person's fault for lying in the first place.

You've got me all wrong Goldy?  I don't think JMart has some kind of agenda against KSU.  In fact, I don't think he gives two rips either way about KSU.   I'm just not buying the crap he's spewing about why he is does what he does.

I've always wondered that myself.  Excellent point Scuba.

Prince to Freeman: "The jobs all yours baby."

He  won the job, he beat out his competitor he is better than the guy he went up against.  You'd make a crapty football coach goldy.

Most coaches concede the competition rule for QBs at some point.  Name the last quality college program who rotated QB.

The problem J-Mart or anyone has is not with that principle, its that Prince hasn't handled the situation in communicating what's going on very well and comes across as a hypocrit, even though anyone that has followed football for any amount of time knows the QB exception is pretty common.  This is Prince learning to handle the media on the job and not doing so hot at it.  I kind of expected things like this to happen this year.  Like I said earlier, Prince is a master with PR/media when he has time to prepare, but we're seeing the growing pains when he is presented with something that he's not prepared for or frustrates him.

The problem with the question is that for Prince to answer it honestly he has to bag on Dylan.  How would you react if you feel like you get a question that can't be publically answered without harming your program?  He sure as hell can't afford to lose Dylan or he would be down to only one QB and he already screwed up once when he benched him.

So he just walked away.  A "no comment" would have been better, but at least he didn't answer it honestly.

Bingo.

Are you suggesting that I should have some personal investment, some tie to the university that I'm paid to cover? Somebody hasn't been informed about what it is we do.

As for Tyree, hell yes, I'm going to ask Tim. As for my ticket out of Wichita, why not? Who doesn't want to advance in their career? I don't make any bones about that. But I'm also not trying to sensationalize anything.

MJ poses an interesting question - are you questioning my journalistic integrity? Are you? I'm not upset at all. Fascinated, really.

What a lot of fans need to remember is that we fans are allowed to draw conclusions and form our own opinions about things, reporters cannot.  Unless the question is asked and answered it would be career ending for a reporter, a journalist, to   write up a piece based on what he thinks is going on.

Important to note the difference between a columnist such as Posnanski and a reporter like Jmart.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Magically, your journalistic integrity is only questioned when the piece you are writing could, in some way, reflect badly on the program.  It's okay to call the parents of basketball recruits, it's not okay to call the parents of players that left the program.  It's okay to ask Prince about qb sneaks, it's not okay to ask him about the qb situation/competition.  It's okay to ask the AD's office about recruiting a kid accused of rape, it's not okay to ask them about the same kid  if/when he signs with KSU a year later.

Look Jeff, here's the deal.  I'm glad you're unbiased.  I'm just not convinced that you will ultimately be fair.  Check that....I'm not convinced you CARE if you are fair.

What is journalistic integrity anyway?  Is it making sure that everything in your story is accurate?  Then no, I'm not questioning your journalistic intetgrity.

Lots of people are on the fence regarding Ron Prince including myself.  Can I not be on the fence regarding your reporting?

Too many words in this topic to actually read all of it, but I think what SS is getting at is this.  Why are you asking questions designed to make the coach look foolish and then be up in arms that he just walks away from you?  Personally I don't care or mind if you ask those kinds of questions, but maybe you shouldn't be up in arms over his reaction, or if it turns out RP doesn't want to be your buddy.  I think the Journalistic integrity angle comes in when it comes to whether you are simply reporting the news or if you are trying to make the news.  Either way, at least somebody is taking the K-State beat seriously in the state.
