Says he need to dribble penetrate more.

Needs to play the perimeter more even though he's a better PF.

I don't think anyone would say he's a "better PF".

He has had to play that for us, for our lack of size, but he is clearly better on the wing.

well after the coaching job wooly put on him, he needs some work.  He has been playing out of position for the last two years.  Huggins will a) get players b) Have players play their positions.

he cant dribble penetrate at all.  it cost us some games because wooly would try to go to him in the clutch and he cant create.  Not really his fault, should have a killer season with young able to penetrate and kick the ball out to a set cartier.

no offense, but this is bullsh*t.  martin became a much bettter player under wooldridge.  and he hasn´t really played much out of position.  he is more a post player with a great outside shot than he is a guard with the ability to post up.

Thank you sys.  Wooly did a lot of things to put Martin in position to be successful.  Hopefully he'll thrive under Huggin as well.

Huggins is just pointing out that guys with Martin's size and skill set are wing players.  Martin is a very good college player, but if he wants to be a pro he's got some things he's got to work on.  Huggins has seen enough that he knows what those things are for Cartier.  I think Cartier will have a fine SR season, but who knows if he'll show that he can be a pro.

I really like the fact that Huggins tells these guys what they need to improve on to get into the league instead of asking them to "do it for the team."  "Do it for yourself" is a better motivator then "do it for me."

sys did you go to the games last year?  Seriously, he should have been getting touches every trip down the court.  He should have been allowed to make a player like Bookout (sp) at OU come out and guard him on the three point line, then CM could have penetrated past him.  He shouldn’t have been playing the 4, LET ALONE THE 5, which happened more then once, but less then 5 times.

Excellent post.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

martin was ksu´s best player at the 3, 4, or 5 last year.  he could only be at one of them.

as for the rest, you are pretty much preaching to the choir.  i don´t think there is another poster on this board who advocates as unbalanced an offense as i do (tons of 3s, only the best couple players allowed to shoot).

i´m just saying martin got a hell of a lot better from freshmen to junior.  he wasn´t ruined by wooldridge.

Look im not saying CM was a bad player at those spots.  He made bookout look like a fool, few rebounds, like 2 points (exageration).  CMart is a 3 or maybe a 4 and should be allowed to move around the court, not just stay on the block.  Jim 'forced' him down there because we has NO ONE ELSE.  Thus we come to huggins, a) get players.  We need real post players, and we are getting them.  Now CM can get to his natural position, be better developed by huggins into an even BIGGER force in the big 12.  He was a top 10 player in the big 12 under wooly, he has the potential to be a top 5 player his senior year under huggins.

I'll give you that Martin was constrained a bit by the flex offense last year, but it was by far Wooly's best offensive system.  Martin really only played the 4 on defense, offensively he ended up anywhere on the court, and most of his points came from the perimeter, the foul line, or offensive boards.  Its not like he was posting up very often.  If anything Hoskins was the player "forced" to play inside offensively, he was posting up defenders (successfully) much more than CM.

He showed one game where he exploited a post defender in the open floor (Gray from OU), but after that I think teams really took that option away.   Also, our lack of a consistent 3 point threat other than Martin allowed teams to leave defenders in position to take away penetration, even when he had favorable match-ups.

Really, I'm anxious to see how Cartier handles some more freedom that he'll get from Huggin's offensive sets.  Huggins himself has said that Cartier will still play the 4 (based on what he said, CM is slated to start there now), but Huggins will be working him into situations to work on his perimeter skills for his future and for this teams.  It will be interesting to watch IMO.
