It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

From a completely non-biased point of view (home town is Atchison, also lived in Manhattan and Olathe and worked in Junction City),  I'd rate Garden City and Great Bend as decent Western Kansas towns.  Scott City is OK, we overnited there on the BAK.

I'd say McPherson as well, but it's kind of on the line.

I love the smell of peat in the evening.  That smell, you know that earthy smell...  Smells like...whisky !

McPherson and Lindsborg are central KS imo - not even really on the western half of the state. Both very cool towns though.

I'll give the nod to Colby, the Oasis on the Plains.

Lindsborg isn't western Kansas.  Neither is Great Bend.

Hays isn't bad (for western Kansas).  College girls. Heavy drinking. Not as many of mj's cousins as other larger towns out there.

Russell is barely in the western half geographically.

West of Hays is considered Western Kansas, with that said, I have heard great things on Colby even though I have never been there and it appears there are no cities near Colby.  Phillipsburg isn't that great, my girlfriend goes to school there, so I've been there on many occasions.  The farthest west I've been has been Hays and I can only say that's best answer I can put my opinion to.

Meade.  It's really not even close.

County seat?  check.
Pizza Hut (marker of a truely elite small western ks town)?  check.
Great central poximity to Dodge, Garden, Liberal and Oklahoma?  check.
Meade State Lake?  check.
2A school?  check.
Stoplight?  check once.
Stoplight turns to flashing yellow after 9PM?  check.
Alco?  check.
Drive through with a soft serve machine?  check.
Dalton Gang Hideout?  check.
Two sets of stuffed two headed baby cows in the Dalton Gang Hideout?  check.
Basketball goal that sd could totally grab the rim on and even dunk a tennis ball?  check.
Domination of the High Plains League, Iroquois League and whatever the name of the league they play in now?  check.

It's the perfect storm of western kansas greatness guys

Wilson - most beautiful lake in KS

Greensburg - interesting green architecture, source of pride for our state

Medicine Lodge - near gypsum hills, beautiful area

Hays - if you are wowed by franchised food chains and college girls with loose morals.

If Lindsborg qualifies as western kansas, then mcpherson and hutch also qualify.  I'd say none of those are western kansas.

Great Bend qualifies.  It's straight south of Russell, which is definitely western kansas (right at the edge).

Dodge and Garden are definitely not the best.  They smell like  :AzCatBS:.  While there are too many  :angryMJ:, it does make for some excellent places to eat, as long as you don't mind pointing at a pic on the menu.

I'd say Elkhart is the best.  Right by the Cimmaron Grasslands... Just a nice area.
