Nationals ink Golden Spikes finalist, Big XII Pitcher of the Year A.J. Morris from Kansas State

The Washington Nationals agreed to terms Friday with right-handed pitcher A.J. Morris (fourth round, Kansas State University) and left-handed pitcher Paul Applebee (10th round, University of California-Riverside). Nationals Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Morris went 14-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 16 starts for Kansas State as a junior to earn the Golden Spikes nomination. A first-team All-American, Morris set single-season school records in wins, strikeouts (100), innings (116.1) and starts as a junior. Morris won 12 conference games en route to earning Big XII Pitcher of the Year honors in 2009.

With Friday's signings, the Nationals have now agreed to terms with 25 players from the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, including nine of their top 12 picks.

Good luck AJ!

Was hoping A.J. would stick around. But can't blame him. Good luck in the bigs. EMAW  :kstatriot:
