So what phone do you have that is more elite than the iPhone?

Too bad the phone is crippled.

That would be because........the Verizon coverage?

No, Verizon's coverage is quite good. There are features on the phone that Verizon or Motorolla has crippled for multiple reasons. The most notable is multitouch on the screen. The international Droids have it enabled on the same exact hardware (obviously the antenna radio is different though).

I'm really looking into getting this phone. Would love your opinion on it versus a Blackberry. (P.S. getting an iPhone is NOT a possibility for me) tia

I have this phone, gf has a blackberry storm 2. droid is better/more user friendly in almost every category. Internet is waaay faster etc. Also, the blackberry overcomplicates everything.

The one gripe I have about the droid is the keyboard.  The buttons are really tiny and right next to each other, but I've had it about a week and have already pretty much gotten used to it.

I have a Blackberry Curve and I absolutely HATE it. I just got a free replacement that Verizon sent me because my old one was so terrible. In what does do you feel they are overcomplicated, if you care to elaborate.
Messing around with her phone as compared to mine it just seemed like there was no order to it... sort of like you had to go through 8 different menu's to get anywhere.  Also just seems like the layout isn't as clean as the droid. LOTS of icons everywhere crammed in really tight.

Don't fall into the BB hype. Completely not worth it. They have solid hardware (sans trackball), but their software is pretty behind the times. Their OS 5.0 looks just like OS 3.0. No good web browsers. No great media players. etc. I know I'm in the minority globally, but I have no idea how it's more popular than Windows Mobile.  Both have hideous menus, but with Winmo, you can at least customize it to look like whatever you want. It's the most functional OS to date. Both lack alot in games though. Back on topic, I haven't used Android extensively, but it's just easier to use than BB. It's pretty customizable. I really like HTC's SenseUI more than the standard Android look though. Much like Windows Mobile and Touch Flo 3D.

I would def recommend the droid to anyone.   :lick:

Unless you have fingers the size of summer sausages because they keyboard really is kind of small, but I have pretty standard/slightly large fingers and I can use it fine.

Which HTC? They make a ton of phones, some very very good ones. The Touch Pro and Touch Diamond had some issues. The Touch Pro 2, Diamond 2, HD2, are all incredible phones. Don't throw away an entire brand because you know someone that had issues with one specific model. Otherwise you wouldn't buy anything. Blackberry's have major issues with trackballs. Nokia's with the slider. etc.

He had the Touch Diamond. He issues delt with the OS. Kept wigging out and losing his settings, messages, and contacts. Now, this roommate is also pretty incompetent. I mean, he talks a good game, but i don't trust much he says. Another reason i don't want one is cuz he has one.

The Eris does look pretty bitchin i will admit. I know i have trivial reasons for buying things, like most people.

I had the original Touch and it served me well. No reason to loose your contacts and messages. Microsoft has a backup app that is awesome. Personally, I use active sync to push all my contacts, email and calendar stuff between my phone and gmail. If you have Verizon, get the Droid or Eris if you want Android. Imagio or Touch Pro 2 if you want Windows Mobile. I will say, if you want a slide out keyboard, it doesn't get better than the Touch Pro 2. If you don't want slide out QWERTY, the Eris and the Imagio are both great from what I know.

Hell yeah, the internet is second to none. I have an ipod touch (I assume its basically an iphone without the phone) and the 3G on my droid is faster than the ipod on wifi. Also much faster than my gfs storm. One gripe many people have is no pinch to zoom. But all you have to do to zoom is double tap, so it doesn't bother me. Some people may have a problem with that though. Overall, internet on the droid is amazingly fast.

Thanks again. Fantastic news. Anybody else seen that other phone from AT&T that has a projector on it too. Is that serious? :ugh:

I'm looking to get this phone soon also (eligible for upgrade in the middle of the month). Right now its at the top of my list, but CES is right around the corner and you never know what could be announced at the Android presser (in addition to the Google Phone for T-Mobile that is). Also some version of the Pre is supposed to be coming to Verizon very soon...

Pre is a solid phone, keyboard is a bit cramped for my taste, but it now has more and 1,000 apps in its marketplace. I would like to seen Palm expand webOS to more devices personally.

The OS has nothing to with internet and wifi speeds.

I just traded in my Droid Eris for an iPhone.  I had been reluctant to go with an iPhone because of the rumored horrible coverage by AT&T, but decided that the new towers they put up all over have solved the issue.  My friend says he gets better coverage than he did on Verizon.

As far as the Eris:  it's a nice phone, nice form factor, and has a good operating system including Sense UI.  Here's the downside: The screen is too small (for me, my vision is getting worse), and it's too slow.  Android has some really cool features, especially when you're integrating with Google.  The browser is awesome and there are so many great free apps that it is nearly competing with the Apple App Store.  But the Eris had a problem with the phone dialler interface that was just maddening.  You'd click on something and have to wait 2-3 seconds for it to do anything.  Trying to get on the browser takes almost 5 seconds just to load up.  It seemed to me that the Android operating system is still a work in progress and requires way too much constant monitoring and tweaking to get it to do what I want it to do.  I imagine that the Moto Droid is fast enough that you can get away with just letting programs eat up resources, but the Eris is too slow.  I didn't want a Droid because it's big, ugly and heavy.  I would have been interested in the Nexus One (really an HTC Passion) but couldn't wait for it to come out, and didn't like the T-Mobile plan they were offering.  HTC generally makes good phones, but for a heavy user the Eris just isn't enough horsepower.

As for the iPhone: well I don't like GSM, it has radio noise, and the call quality is not nearly as good as it was on the Eris.  The App Store is nice, but you can't filter on Free, so it seems like every crappy little app wants you to pay for it.  However if you really want something, it's almost assuredly available for iPhone.  This is a huge selling point--I can download those programs when people say "we've got an iPhone app for that."

The real reason why I like the 3GS is that it's really fast.  The graphics processor is incredible--just check out google earth on it.  Web pages load and rotate immediately.  I have total integration with iTunes, which makes podcasting really easy.  It also syncs up with my computer, not just Google.  The soft keyboard is probably a wash with the Eris, but it's definitely good.  Also there's a big hacking community for when I am ready to jailbreak it and use non-approved apps.   :piratecaptain:
