What are advantages to jailbreaking the iphone besides being able to move it to different providers?

Are there any risks?

Bump.

I just got an iPhone yesterday and I love it. I am feeling pretty elite. Any chance we can get a ksufans.com app?

It's not elite if your mom pays for it.

I had mine JB'd and I restored it back to factory after a few weeks.  It allowed you to install some really cheeky cool themes and applications for free but that was about it.  It slowed my phone down too much and I was getting annoyed so I went back to the factory settings by doing a restore on itunes.  It was fun for a bit but overall not a big deal.

Touch Pro 2 on my $30 SERO plan on Sprint. Paid for it all by myself. Guess what, I could pay for an iphone, too, but I don't want hideous coverage and an overpriced plan. g/l with that though!

You think Sprint has better coverage than AT&T? I just switched from Sprint and live within a couple of miles from their world headquarters, and still found dead spots around town. Sprint's coverage is horrible. The iPhone plan is $30 a month, which is just as much as your Touch Pro. The apps for the iPhone are not even comparable to other phone's apps. Without Apple, other phones would not have apps because they couldn't have copied off of them. My iPhone was also $100, while your Touch Pro 2 was $350.

Good lord you're stupid. Do I live with you? Why would you think that what ever you experience is what everyone experiences? Because the majority greatly disagrees with you. Also, have fun getting 3G anywhere but big cities, except for that whole NYC place. Second, my entire plan costs $30. Voice, data and texts. You pay $30 on top of a voice plan. Unless you're still on your mom's bill. And then you want to talk about apps? Seriously? How many of those crapty apps do you use? Do you need a fart button?

But hey, keep finding things to argue about. Or do I need to quote crap My Dad Says again and make you look like an idiot for bragging about something anyone can buy (or have their mom buy).

PS. My TP2 was $99.

Ya, some of the apps are stupid, but a lot of them are useful and fun. Some are just incredible. How did you get a TP 2 for $100? The base price for those are $600.

You probably have good coverage at your house, but no coverage within a couple of miles of the world head quarters is beyond pathetic.

And there are some apps on WinMo that Apple and Android don't have. Apple mainly has games. Winmo usually has functional stuff. I just like the customization ability I have with my phone. I can easily run Android of my microsd card if I want, as well. And no reception there is pretty crapty, but ATT is way behind the curve when it comes to solid coverage. Here in Colorado they are awful. That's almost state wide. Not sure if it's a GSM thing with mountains or what. And there was a corporate deal with some company where you could get major discounts on phones a while back. They still pop up every now and then. It mainly comes down to good timing.

Thanks for the info on jailbreaking.  I knew it was a bad plan.

My AT&T coverage is better than my Sprint coverage in KC but not by a whole lot.

My question is now "what functional apps are there for other phone besides the iPhone"?   Am I missing something really cool?

I can switch phones and carriers freely, money isn't a huge deal if the phone and coverage is better and no, my folks aren't paying for it.

what the hell does proximity to the Sprint Campus have to do with coverage, is that where Sprint's signal emanates from?
and LOL @ any ATT plan costing $30.

Yes. I got one for Christmas also. It charges really quickly, and I like mine a lot. It's
nice to be able to just set it down when I walk in the room and let it charge.

Too bad the phone is crippled.

That would be because........the Verizon coverage?

No, Verizon's coverage is quite good. There are features on the phone that Verizon or Motorolla has crippled for multiple reasons. The most notable is multitouch on the screen. The international Droids have it enabled on the same exact hardware (obviously the antenna radio is different though).

I'm really looking into getting this phone. Would love your opinion on it versus a Blackberry. (P.S. getting an iPhone is NOT a possibility for me) tia

the only reason to own a blackberry is for work purposes.  if you need your email and calendar with you 24/7 and pump out a ton of email from the phone, then get the blackberry.

otherwise don't.

I have this phone, gf has a blackberry storm 2. droid is better/more user friendly in almost every category. Internet is waaay faster etc. Also, the blackberry overcomplicates everything.

The one gripe I have about the droid is the keyboard.  The buttons are really tiny and right next to each other, but I've had it about a week and have already pretty much gotten used to it.

I have a Blackberry Curve and I absolutely HATE it. I just got a free replacement that Verizon sent me because my old one was so terrible. In what does do you feel they are overcomplicated, if you care to elaborate.

HTC has several new phones out for 2010. What is tentatively called the "Bravo" is said to be an iPhone on steroids.
