I don't get what would make you think his signing bonus is gonna be all that high... You have to think that the reason why one of the best pitchers in college baseball this past season hasn't been taken yet is because teams are worried about a one year wonder situation and he would flame out once in the minors...

The 4th round is very high in a 50 round draft. I can only think of a couple of college juniors that have been taken in the 5th round or better that have ever come back to college. It is extremely rare. AJ will get offered a bonus of at least $100,000 I would say. I think it'll be difficult to turn down because he won't get a better offer next year.

So if he comes back next year and does exactly what he did this year or close to you think he will still be a 4th round or so pick with a somewhat small signing bonus? If he comes back and does what he did this year he has to be a top 2 round draft pick ... if not a top 15 overall pick...

I doubt he would go higher. Maybe a round or two if he came close to replicating this past season's performance. At that point he would have no leverage so I doubt he would get a better bonus which is more important ultimately than where you are picked.

I'm obviously not a scout and I think AJ is a very good pitcher but he doesn't hit 95 on the gun that often and isn't 6'5'' either. That has more to do with where he was picked than teams wondering if he is a one year wonder IMHO.

Morris drafted with the 112th pick by the Nationals.

This may be good... the Nats are going to be throwing the bank at Strasburg... probably won't have much else to offer Morris after that...

Edit: Oh and Daris what do you think about the Royals taking a catcher with their 2nd pick? 

I think he's an 18 yr old catcher/third basemen who will never be a catcher in the major leagues. sounds like he has a great bat though. hopefully the royals can sign him, get him into a corner outfield position and if everything works out he'll be up to help out in four or five years.

Bloxom drafted with the 322nd pick again by the Nats. The nations capitol loves us.  We should change the Royals sign to a Nationals sign. Just a though.

Kansas State signee Gerardo Esquivel, who just completed his senior season at De La Salle Institute in Chicago, Ill., was also selected on Wednesday. The right-handed pitcher was taken by the Chicago Cubs with the 29th pick in the 24th round (No. 740 overall).

^Gerardo Esquivel needs to come to K-State, the Cubs suck.

Crow is a much better pitching prospect than Hochevar IMO. Throws with more velocity and is more of a competitor.

Esquivel is 6-1, 170 lbs. Threw a one-hitter against Kenwood while striking out 13.

Obviously he is expected to accept the scholarship than sign.

No, I think AJ Morris is really good. You don't get drafted that high if you are not. I didn't see him pitch in person this season, but in watching him in the Regionals and against Baylor in the Big XII Tournament I am impressed. He put together one of the best seasons in Big XII history on the mound too. If I was the Nationals I would throw a lot of money at him and ignore the whole slotting issue. K-State fasn should be very proud of what he, Vaughn, Bloxom, and Biery accomplished in turning around the program.

That was half sarcastic after the first sentence.  He improved a ton at mizzou, he could be a good pick for KC, but I mean he wasn't a great athlete in high school really.  But yes, now, he can deal.
