yeah but it's not like Pat was gunned down by the enemy and now they're just venting.

he was mowed down by our own guys with a 50 caliber and it the truth wasn't told to them until after the higher ups were caught lying, so they were forced to fess up.

I'd be pretty hacked about it to if it were my kid .....and they guy who lied about it was getting a promotion.

just my .02

The sad thing is that kind of thing happens more than you think.  If we had to come out and pay the families of every soldier killed by friendly fire this nation would be in even worse financial shape than it already is.  War is a nasty thing and people get caught in the cross fire.  They should ask them selves what would Pat want, I think he would understand what happened was not intentional.

I don't agree with the cover up but don't think it is as bad as other things that happen during the course of a war.

You very bad man. Why don't you join the military? Oh, wait. They don't have much of a need for wedding photographers, do they?

kinda had the same view (riley rats are 100% of our armed forces etc) but with two in laws in the armed forces with one overseas for another 17 months and another about to be for 18 months you change your opinion and views.

oh and if these "chodes" didn't join welcome to the draft, but OKCat i'm sure your flat footed, or blind or something else you could find to fit in this category of the drafted

That is a horrible reason to excuse these people or any people who would cover something like this up.  If I were Pat, a man who gave up his career to serve his country, I would want the people who stopped me from doing that held accountable.

Dudes die of friendly fire ALL THE TIME.  It's called war.  STFU Tillman family and accept the consequence of your son's decision.

As for the rest of you, ya, we should have a &@#%ing draft, and there should be NO exceptions for college students, income levels, or any other non-medical excuse.  Let's see how we all like the idea of war then.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

It probably also wouldn't have gotten much coverage if the pentagon hadn't used him as  a posterboy for patriotic duty.

True.  And the Tillman family is using Pat's notoriety to get this issue as much coverage as possible because so many other similar incidents have been successfully swept under the rug.  Some 19 year-old kid from podunk Iowa dies, nobody asks too many questions.

I know, I mean they're upset because their son died and the event was portrayed in a false manner in an attempt to improve public sentiment for an unpopular war while aiding to help recruit more young people?  What a bunch of FPs.

I remember watching the funeral service on television and a couple soldiers came out to talk about the heroic manner in which Pat had died. Literally, it was something about him running up a hill and firing on the Taliban while saving the men in his unit from taking deadly fire. They went into great detail about it. Turns out  the guy was laying wounded on a hill essentially yelling, "stop killing me, stop killing me" while bullets from his friends were flying around him.

I guess I just always wondered where the hell the first story came from and how these soldiers were able to get up at his funeral and tell this concocted story. Also I'm a bit curious about the whole  setting on fire and burying of Pat's uniform and body armor after he died.

every comment that is ingnoring the fact that the military lied about his death is totally missing the point...

and its teh point to why the Tillman's are pretty pissed about it. I would be too.

I think they've accepted that their son is gone...but the blatant disregard for accountability, truth, and loyalty in our military is unacceptable.

Exactly.  They are using his notoriety to keep this issue into the media in hopes that those that helped in the conspiracy will be named and that this type of thing won't happen to another person and their family.

Nope.  I think we should draft the people who fight in wars.  It would take an act of god to get us into them then.  No one would want to risk it for stupid reasons...which I think would be a pleasant change.
