"His K-State career was a lot like my Bucs career," said pro personnel director Doug Williams. "If K-State didn't have Josh Freeman, they might have shut the program down. Josh Freeman was it for them. A lot of people that love the Wildcats might not want to hear that, but it's fact.

Uh, Doug, K-State was never in jepardy of shutting down its football program while Freemaw was here.  What a dumbass.  Facts?  I think not.

if he means Prince's only legit D-1a recruit then I get his point. But shutting down? If we didnt' shut down between '88 and '89 we never will.

No joke.  I don't seem to remember Freeman at the helm during those bad old days.

Doug has a great point.  It's kind of scary to think how bad we could have been without Josh.  I mean just imagine what our record would have been the last 3 years vs. ku, MU and NU without Josh Freeman?  We might have even got blown out by them without him.

Freemaw = Dickey/Grogan.  And we didn't shut anything down after horrible coaches wasted those guys either.

We would have been horrible - but shut down? Nah. (see ISU, ku*, BU) Me thinks douchebagronprince would have been out quicker and we prolly wouldn't have had to pay his fat worthless ass all the coin he is getting now. Thanks Weefs.

I actually want Ron back.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

maybe so but just think... by the time RP left, we had nowhere to go but up. even if he could eventually vary between 6-8 wins, AND could have pulled enough crazy stunts like a 6'7" Josh Freeman and a 5'7" Brandon Banks to keep people interested and KSU in the highlights (mostly for the worst).... I would rather have that than a coach who's as likely to croak as find his way to an 8 win season. Nowhere to go but down for the Synd's.  :'(

What makes you think there was any upward direction in the program by the time RP left?

I really don't think RP has it in him to run a 6-8 win program.  Not at this particular point in time anyway, or not at K-State.

At this point in his career, Ron Prince wasn't HC caliber. It was obvious - he wasn't winning - he had little control over the players - he was unable of making any good adjustments during game time - the list goes on and on. He is one HELL of a salesman, that's for damned sure. Or Weefs is a #$%&ing idiot (I am on board with either or both).

well it would have been tough to get much worse. Prince like most of his players had "tremendous upside potential" which means they weren't worth a damn... but at least we would be getting fooled by a legitimate salesman rather than an old man who just wants a little more glory before he starts arranging his own funeral

Yeah, I don't get this.  Snyder certainly has an ego, but he didn't come back to get glory.  He came back to fix what he thought Prince had torn apart.

And I'm definately not saying it will work, I have plenty of concerns whether or not Snyder will ultimately be able to get it done, namely if he and his staff will be able to recruit at the necessary levels to succeed.  But there is something to be said about having a sound coached team, sound schemes, etc.; I don't care if that's not popular to say at ksufans.com or not b/c its simply true.  However, you've got to fit talented players into those sound schemes at a place like K-State.

We aren't going to be USC or Texas, but we should be able to build a roster of a bunch of 3-star level guys (minimum) mixed in with several 4-stars and occasionally perhaps a 5-star player.  When you are playing with that level of talent, then you better have them in the right places and playing fundamental football, but there is no doubt in my mind you can win that way.  Now if we continue to have a large base of 2-star (or worse) players with a few 3-stars, then no, this will not work, no matter how well coached.  That to me is the ultimate question with Bill Snyder and the staff he has put together.

If I spent years building something out of nothing only to have some douche bag burn it to the ground, I'd be pissed too.  That is ego to an extent, but I certainly don't see Snyder as some glory hound.  Hell, getting that dude to talk to the media during the DoD was like pulling teeth.
